Benihana Carlsbad was short staffed (Chef wise) on Monday. But, that didn't stop our table from having a great time. Some of the table Patrons were impatient and rude. But, we had a great time and understand staffing issues happen from time to time. Food was great. Our chef I forget his name (His cart started with an I ) was great... Thank you as always Benihana.

I was very disappointed that they seated our group of 7 with a party of 2 making it 9 total which was overcrowded. There was not enough space to even have all of the plates and dishes for sauces on the table. I couldn’t lift my arms and felt I had to keep them at my sides the whole evening as I was on the corner near the party of 2 that wasn’t part of our group. The chef also didn’t have enough fried rice and mushrooms for everyone so I think the kitchen sent him with food for 8 instead of 9.

2 and 1/2 hours from seating to finish - way too long. Slow service. Soup then waited and had to ask for salad. The cooked food was mostly ok but my scallops were terrible - cooked to a rubber consistency. Very disappointed.

They were running 1.5-2 hours behind reservation times which defeats the purpose and ends up with a really bad customer experience. The chef was obviously a rookie. He tried his best but it pales in comparison to expectations— felt more like my cousin trying to do tricks on his Blackstone rather than a professional experience. Wait staffed was slammed and struggling to keep up.

Made reservations for 6 o’clock arrived exactly at six and was told they were an hour behind. I asked why this was the case. They said they allow one hour for the Benihana experience which obviously puts them behind the place was jampacked nowhere to sit at the bar, the entire outside court area was filled with people waiting. At 7 o’clock, we asked about our reservation. We were told it would be another 15 to 20 minutes at 7:40 we were finally seated. One hour and 40 minutes late our host was really nice and kept apologizing. However, our chef did not really hardly engage barely spoke and just did not make our experience What it used to be at Benihana people were in such a rush. Multiple things were dropped. Plates were broken a glass right in front of our table. It was just a very chaotic night. There was oil dripping from the roof stove onto my plate which we had to wipe several times. It was gross.

So first let me say I understand it was a holiday. It was Father’s Day. We go over a year for Father’s Day so we booked a 530 reservation to avoid the crowds. When we got there, she said they were running 45 minutes late. We actually waited an hour and 15 minutes for our reservation. The reason being she said people were staying at their tables longer than they should and my question her was well. Shouldn’t the manager go to those tables and kindly let them know. There was an employee standing behind the hostess, and he started shaking his head vehemently in agreement. It was a holiday that was supposed to be a fun evening and when you sit and wait an hour and 15 minutes and then the food comes out so slowly we were there till 9 o’clock before our dinner was over. 3 1/2 hours. Not only that but we went into the bathroom and there was a half inch of water all over the floor. The women’s bathroom that you had to traps through in order to use the bathroom absolutely disgusting. They have this very sweet Zen garden just outside the hostess check-in in an outdoor location and there were multiple young children using it as a sandbox since there’s no place to sit in the lobby we sat out there and they were throwing sand at us when we kindly said to them please don’t throw sand. The parents became hostile even though we were quite kind to them. Why is no one at the restaurant dealing with that situation and letting them desecrate and destroy property? It was just overall very stressful and not an enjoyable evening and we come here every year for Father’s Day and my husband‘s birthday he said on the way out, we will not be coming for his birthday in August.

Marco was our amazing teppanyaki chef. He provided excellent customer service. We really enjoyed our food and show. Definitely recommend.
