Benihana - Carlsbad
We go to Benihana frequently and this time it was a disaster. From the watered down drink, to no appetizer for 30 + minutes and it was a simple roll, to the server making excuses after excuse to the chef rushing through, to the tab when we split on two cards and the server ran one card twice. Totally a disaster for my birthday dinner. Disappointed for sure.
Our chef Christian was amazing and mDe the birthday party so memorable
Food was excellent, service was disappointing and took away from the overall experience.
Luis our Chef did a fantastic job! He exceeded all of our expectations.
Excellent food as always. Cook just over cook The veggies but it’s ok.
We go to Carlsbad Benihana twice a year March and October. This, for birthdays. We really got lucky this time with our chef , his name is Nick and boy can he cook with daring flare and awesome energy and enthusiasm The only disappointment is the decline in the quality of the steak. I ordered the filet mignon shrimp combo, and the filet mignon was not typical of Benihana, it was fatty, thin, tough. More like a sirloin. I noticed this happened at the Downey, CA Benihana , so I'm thinking they are going on the low end with cut and quality throughout the chain.
This is probably the worst experiences we had at a Benihana. We waited a long time for our cook to get to our table. The table next to ours sat down 15 minutes after us and ate well before us. We were told he was prepping his tray. When the cook finally got to our table someone turned the grill off so he had to wait for it to heat up. And he did a horrible job of prepping his cart because he was constantly needing to get sauce/supplies from kitchen or the table next to us. We feel the cook was overwhelmed meh didn’t interact much and over cooked much of the food. Also, we got a lot of stuff out of the normal order. I ate my food before he gave us our onions. To top it all off they didn’t give us our credit card back so we had to return the next day to pick that up.
Amazing as always!
Really enjoyed our Tappenyaki dinner. The service was excellent!
Service was super slow and they assigned us a novice chef who just cooked (and got our order wrong) and did almost no show. We won’t be back.
It was very good overall. Great staff and chief’s 10/10 recommend !!!
Waited over 30 minutes past our reservation time to be seated. This isn’t the first time, every time we come our table is never ready until at least 20 minutes later. Chef was not friendly at all. I’ve requested a specific chef for our last 3 visits and we never get him. We even saw him and he told him we’ve requested him and they still put him on another table. This place is our go to for birthdays and celebrations but it really needs to improve.
We usually love our trips to Benihana’s but this time they messed up our order and then over cooked our chicken and ahi. Also when we ordered a drink the bar was just about out of everything. We ordered 4 drinks before they actually were able to make one with what they had.
We have been going to Benihana’s for my son’s birthday on 9/29 for nearly 30 years. It’s a tradition for us!
The chef was fantastic. He was engaging with us. The problem was the restaurant leaking hood so we had to seat awkwardly on the table. Enjoy the show and I guess take an umbrella if you are under the vent hood.
Arrived early for the reservation. Service was slow. The Chef did his best but it was not as good as a few of the others. The waiter checked in one time during the whole meal and delivered the wrong drinks and rice to folks at the table. Over priced for the experience. Last time I ll visit.
Food and service was great - first time with chef Tam, and he was great! Only downside was the table was too crowded with nine people. A great night overall!
Waitress took forever
Asked her for a glass for my beer ,I ended up having to walk over to the bar for one.
I recently ate at the benihana in irvine and feel the food and entertainment were both FAR BETTER
A great place to celebrate special events. My issue was having to wait an hour to be seated and we had made reservations. They could have done something chose not too.
Our chef Christian was great however with the 830pm reservation we did not get seated until 904pm and the chef to started cooking at 940pm which made for a late night
Always a great time watching the chefs cook at the table
The good was salty as heck. I would never make a big deal about it because I know the chef has a hard job so we ate it. But it was way too salty for me. Especially for my food choice I'm kinda sad that it was salty. My lobster was like eating a stick or salter butter
Great service, great food as always! Nico was funny, entertaining and very friendly....not to mention a great chef!
Have visited Benihana many times, always a favorable experience, tonight it wasn't. Waitress was slow taking our orders, slow getting out the drinks, slow with dessert and slow with the check. Other tables around us were seated later but finished earlier. Chef did a great job, and was entertaining as always. There were three birthday's at our table and no pictures were taken like all the other years, yet I saw another table getting their courtesy photo taken. Will I be back? Probably. Chances our we'll have a different server.
Took about 30+ mins to actually seat us even though we were on time for our reservation plus took maybe another 30 mins to actually get a chef to our table.
Excellent food- the chef accommodated gluten free diet.
Six year olds birthday dinner
I dont know what it is with this location...but they can never seem to get it together. This last experience at least had entertainment value. Apparently the table next to us a guy was jumped in the restroom and then when the cops finally showed up the lady with them went on some crazy tantrum and the table attempted to fight the other table while the cops were there. Good times
Never had a worse dining experience or birthday because of this place
The food i ordered did not have a lot of flavor. There was a table that made a scene , there were involved in a fight with someone outside and policed showed up. I wish they would have silenced that woman who was making a scene.
This is the first time to this Benihana. We went for my grandson’s birthday and he thoroughly enjoyed it. So much of the experience depends on your chef and the other people that our seated at the table. Our chef was funny and pretty accomplished even tho it was only his second day but the other people seated at our table were nice but very quiet so that was disappointing. The food was good but the only thing that was exceptional was the tenderloin.
Service was terrible. Venue needs updating. Waited 45 minutes for our table despite having a reservation. Over it.
Excellent food, a little noisy. Our chef did a great job and everything was cooked perfect. Pricey but always a good experience.
The service was terribly slow all night. We waited forever for our chef and he seemed super surprised to be working at all. The wait staff was clearly not interested in being there. The food was fine but the restaurant itself is sorely in need of some attention. The bar was a mess - dirty dishes were everywhere behind the counter and all over the tables in the vicinity. The bathrooms needed to be cleaned all night. The hostess disappeared for long stretches and did not seem fazed by the waiting crowds. We were not seated until 25 min after our reservation and ended up being there for nearly three hours. It was ridiculous.
Enjoyable lunch meal and the service was exceptional
Great as always...
Our Chef, David, was very friendly and festive! Kept us laughing the entire time.
Air conditioning and over head vent not functioning. Numerous server errors. Chef Trevor was great. Food quality has gone below standard for what Benihana use to be. Portion sizes across the food and beverage aspects have also gone down.
