Great ambience and food, service was awful
The patio area is beautiful! Nice view of the city and ocean. The service was ok. We had a reservation and waited 20 minutes to be seated when there were many empty tables. We were seated at a low table, hard to eat from and even harder to fit drinks and plates. Even wait staff said these tables are awkward. The menu is very limited unless you like fish. My husband and son are meat lovers and don’t eat seafood, so the only option was the $185 tomahawk steak. It was delicious! Would have liked more options so we didn’t need to all share.
MOST AMAZING!! Best view, great service, incredible food. You have to go! Order the lemon dessert it’s so yummy and fun :)
Lots of families with young kiddos. The table behind us had kids watching cartoons on an iPad at a high volume. Disruptive for a romantic evening at $150 per person. Would choose another restaurant for a special occasion
Wonderful food and beautiful experience! Thanks El Encanto, I can’t wait to get back!
Outstanding venue with fabulous view of Santa Barbara and the sea (if its not foggy).
Beautiful terrace perfect on a sunny day.
Our waiter Peter was sensational and gave us the best recommendations for an excellent meal.
The lemon desert and chocolate desserts were sublime.
Lovely morning brunching with friends at El Encanto. Excellent service, delicious meal.
The patio was beautiful, the appetizers were all good. The restaurant you can tell is still adjusting after COVID. They were out of many items on the menu, only one kind of oyster (3 kinds listed) we were there at 6:30pm so this was not a late seating. They’re out of the tuna tartare appetizer, as well as a main course.
Two of the 4 main dishes were wonderful & great flavor, surf & Turf and the mushroom ramen.
The black cod was disappointing, very bland and no flavor. I’m use to this being a butter flakey fish, with dynamic flavor, not so here.
The desserts all 3 were exceptional especially the dark chocolate tacos, deconstructed cheese cake, and a chocolate mousse with gold flakes. All dynamic and wonderful not overly sweet, everyone enjoyed them. Plated beautifully.
Laughing Buddha cocktail was incredible too. The tequila with habanero pepper cocktail was just ok, not a shining star.
Their was a lot of service people around, but the service was a far departure from a 5 star dining experience. Plates in center table were not cleared, food on table between courses was not cleared, side dishes were left without serving utensils, steak without steak knife. The hostesses were lovely & helpful, as was one staffer who was exceptional, but 3 others that did not seem to understand the dining level this was advertised to be. We asked for an umbrella to be moved to block the sun in someone’s face and was told to wait for the sun to go down, the Arnold Palmer was too bitter for the child and instead of making a new drink they brought syrup to the table. Instead of adding less straight lemon, the entire sugar needed to be added & it was still undrinkable & then too much sugar for the child to drink.
We enjoyed the location & the view, and several portions of the meal, but left yearning for a pre-Covid 5 star restaurant experience.
Restaurant is gorgeous. Alex, the sever, was fantastic. Food was mediocre.
This was a return after many previous Covid 19 dinners. We were not disappointed, always a treat and a pleasure to sit on the patio enjoying great wine and excellent food. Thank you.
Best customer service ever!
We had amazing service celebrating a birthday. The ambiance and food were wonderful!
Overall, a disappointment. Server was quite green, did not know the menu and was unable to provide helpful recommendations. The formerly stunning views of SB are now mostly obscured by trees, so it’s not really a true ‘view’ restaurant anymore. The food was adequate but nothing special. (Side note : the restaurant is primarily outdoor seating, but does not provide adequate heating if visiting during chilly evenings—several patrons expressed concerns.)
Used to love this place, just not worth the effort any longer.
We were impressed with the ambiance of the terrace, our service was quite good and our food was very good. We were here on Memorial Day for lunch and were amazed that there was no recognition of the holiday anywhere visible. I was the only person dressed for the occasion (red, white and blue) in the entire place! It was sooo sad to realize that noone cared about this special day of recognition for our deceased American soldiers. Made us wonder what has happened to this country that we love and cherish?
The service and location were beautiful, and the food was really good!
My wife and I love this place, but this visit missed the mark; service was the main issue - although our server was polite, he provided very little info about the menu or updates on menu changes that we overheard from other servers; service timing was inconsistent leaving only one of us with a drink for a while, and then our appetizers were quickly removed without our OK because the mains had clearly been fired too early; service here is typically close to perfect and it was quite lacking this time; food was still quite good; risotto and bisque for apps, scallops and duck for mains, Goleta lemon for dessert; only food critique was timing and the fact that the duck main could be improve with more than potato chips and a small salad accompanying it; we came to celebrate a special occasion and we left feeling a bit like an after thought; we hope to come back and have this experience redeemed.
Such a charming venue… Magnificent views, excellent service, beautifully served meals, can’t miss going here
great view and atmosphere. they did their best to accommodate all of our requests and made our night so special!
I cannot recommend highly enough. Ask for Alfred!
The quality of the food was really good. Pomegranates on the pear salad tasted/smelled like nail polish (a sign that they may have been fermented a little - maybe expired). Lemon desert was amazing as was the Scallops.
The place is so nice . The service was excellent. We really enjoy the morning
Excellent food, very well prepared and presented. Corkage fee of $45 a bit too much. A wonderful experience.
I have been eating at this establishment for 18 years. Right before COVID, they were making serious attempts to match the service at other fine local eateries. I was excited because the location is beautiful with panoramic views of the harbor.
Tonight was awful. We waited 40 minutes for dessert and another 20 minutes for the check. The restaurant was not busy. During this time I had noticed the manager had been talking with the same table for over 20 minutes. When I approached the manager calmly to discuss the delays, he became irritated and did not ask me a single question about my experience. I suggested he reconsider how he manages the restaurant as it seems that the staff were taking cues from him lackadaisical work ethic. To make matters worse, the valet came to the table as we received our desserts and insisted that we come get our valet parked car. We were dumbfounded as to my we needed to get our car when we were in the middle of eating. It turns out, there was a SNAFU with our car and in the end it turned out to be the managers fault for not being available to the staff.
The food was less than stellar as well. A salad we have ordered for years came to the table with baby cilantro all over it. One of our guests had a cilantro allergy. There was no mention of the cilantro on the menu either. The $185 tomahawk steak was served with raw spots and overcooked spots. The glaze was fig based, again, there was no mention of a fruity glaze on this expensive prime piece of meat. It was one of the worst steaks I have had in a long time. The salmon was dry and the enchanted island dessert, which we usually get and love, we all agreed, tasted like fruity toothpaste for some odd reason.
I will not be returning until something changes which is sad because the views are breathtaking!
We had a wonderful dinner! We couldn’t have picked a better place than this to celebrate our wedding anniversary! The staff are so sweet! Thank you!🙌🏻🌷
Terrific lunch menu. Delicious food and very good service.
Family in town
This is a special occasion spot for sure. The setting, the view, the food and oh the service! We had dinner on a Saturday night, and there were two weddings going on. It was festive! My husband and I were celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary and the staff did everything to make sure it was memorable, including celebrating us! Multi age groups represented.
Arrived ready for a fun girls night out. Parked in the ADA parking spot, which I have a placard for. Immediately a valet came to my window to grill me. Was I checking in? No, restaurant. Do you have reservations? Yes. For today? Yes. I need to have your keys in case I have to move your car. Why would you move my car - this is a handicapped spot and I am parked in it. Do you have a placard? yes. Where? Hanging in the window, where it is supposed to be. Let me check. Ok. I still need your keys. Why? It's policy. We might move your car. Why would you move my car? I don't know. We might. It went on and on like this. I asked for a manager. Manager repeated the nonsense about "policy."
I went inside. Had a fairly nice dinner except for the racket of screaming people above is. My friend from out of town asked if there was a roller coaster nearby. I ordered an appetizer while waiting for my two friends to arrive. It arrived 35 minutes later. Then we never saw another waiter for another 30 minutes. We had to keep asking people for things - silverware for the appetizer, water, drinks, etc. all the while expecting a waiter to come back. Finally a nice waiter arrived and said she was sorry. We were caught in the middle of a shift. Wow. I would expect a smoother transition in a hotel/restaurant of this caliber. This hotel/restaurant is full of staff dressed like they are working for the secret service, all running around talking to each other on mics while seemingly ignoring the guests.
We ate. We left. I got back to my car and saw the other handicapped spot with a fancy car, no handicapped placard. Guess I know why they might have needed to move my car. Apparently the handicapped spots are either up for the highest bidder or whichever car they think might look best parked out front. I am a local. I have been going to this hotel for 30 years (different management, of course). I am done with it.
Belmond is a lovely spot, and worthy of an anniversary dinner that we wanted to be elegant and casual. Kelly, our waitperson, was professional and pleasant, offering excellent suggestions when asked. We opted for "pre-dinner" fare, which were very good. The Goleta lemon dessert was spectacular!!
We enjoyed the Fish Tacos and the Tortilla Soup. Both were excellent. We stopped for a quick lunch while we were on the road, but would love to come back for a leisurely dinner. Great views too.
Since we don't live in Southern California, it's been many years since revisiting El Encanto. The venue remains wonderful, with a view of the Pacific Ocean (facing south !!!). My wife said it was one of the most beautiful restaurants she has been too.
The Butternut Bisque was excellent. I had the duck breast, which was nicely done medium rare and generous in portions.
The only slight knock was the wine list. I had a nice Evening Land Eola Amity pinot noir. It was a good wine, but seemed a bit overpriced for a bottle that can be had foe $25/bottle.
Overall, a wonderful experience.
Yum.....Fried Avocado and Tempura Appetizers were the perfect start. The Stearn’s Wharf cocktail with Mezcal is yummy but I am still partial to the Holy Smoke. Main course of Ramen was delicious! Closed out with the Goleta Lemon for dessert which is always exceptional. Our server was attentive and helpful. There was a larger group of 10-12 who were in a bday party mode and were a bit intrusive on the dining experience. Of course we will all enjoy a meal there again soon.
Delicious meal beyond our expectations!! Wonderful service and views!
A nice dinner, a little spendy. The menu seemed weirdly limited. Very nice wine list.
Just an amazing experience with amazing food!
great service and ambiance as always. Would be nice to have a few more options on the menu.
The food and service were impeccable.... Thank you for the special evening.
Maybe it was just a bad day, but I've never had service this bad at any level of restaurant, from start to finish. I worked as a server when I was younger and always give the benefit of the doubt, but by the end I had to tell the server just how poorly they had done, how many time they dropped the ball. And for all of it, had he bothered to ask us how we were doing, he could have corrected a few of the problems, but the first time he even came back was with check. We counted 8 problems - like wrong dish, items missing from order, forgot drinks, delivered settings after the food, etc - really, it was like they didn't even care that we were there.
Thank you for sharing your recent experience at El Encanto's Dining Room. On behalf of the entire restaurant staff, I want to sincerely apologize for the series of unfortunate events that you encountered while dining with us. The service you described is in no way how we would like to carry ourselves. We hope you will give us another opportunity to regain your trust and to deliver superb service.
