Great location, great service, great food! Is a little expensive, but great overall!
We had a wonderful time with a spectacular view, delicious food and warm staff. We look forward to returning soon!
The Kitchen missed a good execution of the meal and the service left to be desired.
We were celebrating our 40 year anniversary
The service was outstanding
Recommend the sashimi and the sea bass and dessert
Maybe would not repeat the rib eye
Jan 16, had a wonderful experience at the El Encanto for my birthday and goodby time for friends leaving town.
HOWEVER...I was very upset with the OPEN TABLE and/or EL Encanto Dining Room for the stupid,
stupid booking situation. My friends had an appointment and I asked for 6:15 or 6:30 dining reservations...
was told the only available seating was 5:45 or 8:30. EXCUSE ME!!! WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?
We rearranged our appointments, showed up on time, had a lovely evening, BUT THERE WERE ONLY ABOUT 3 OTHER TABLES OCCUPIED DURING OUR 2 1/2 hrs. there on the patio, and probably 5 tables in the main dining room.
THIS WAS NOT ACCEPTABLE, AND I WOULD BE ADAMANT IN TELLING OTHER PEOPLE TO BE AWARE OF A BAD SEATING SITUATION! Sad, to pay for an elite experience and find this kind of stupidity!
We got to El Encanto 15 minutes early, so we walked through the pathways around the “Turtle Pond” and the Cottages back to the restaurant. Charming! Robin our server was a delight and the food was fresh, delicious and beautifully presented. First time there for my wife and now she’s thinking of reasons we should go back soon.
Average dinner. Service was very much lacking. Nice setting
I have definitely had bad and good food experiences here, but I think they have finally gotten their act together as the last two meals I had were very good. The service was wonderful, as always! And of course you cannot beat the aesthetic‘s
Awesome experience all around
Kelly was our server. I had left dietary restrictions thru a phone call and open table comment section. Even though they had a prix fix menu arranged for New Years Eve dinner they accommodated. We had a vegan and pescatarian. Jelly greeted us and within moments addressed the knowledge of our restrictions and from there they outperformed our expectations. Kelly was great and all the staff helping her. We eat here on regular days but this was our first New Years, we would consider it again for next year.
Everyone else was very attentive as well, the valet staff and the Host/Hostess stand. Great place to eat and on a normal day when the clear tenting isn’t up due to cold weather the view is outstanding.
Food was mediocre. Service was friendly. Live piano music and atmosphere in the cocktail area was very good. The remodel was well done--original atmosphere preserved, it is a beautiful place inside and out. I believe they are under new management so I would give them awhile to get the food figured out.
Loved the setting, atmosphere, and wonderful dinner, especially for celebrating our 40th Anniversary! The corkage fee of $45 was an expensive surprise. Otherwise, it was a great evening.
We celebrated our th 59th wedding anniversary at this spectacular location on the Riviera in Santa Barbara. The waitstaff went went out of their way to make us feel very special on this memorable occasion. The food, cocktails and wines were impeccable. We will defintely return!
Very pricey for Xmas dinner with mediocre food. Great setting
Probably not a fair review since we went on Christmas Eve. This was our first time at Belmond and we were very excited to try it. The place is fabulous -- understated elegance. The deck is gorgeous with a view of the city and the harbor. Unfortunately, service was amateurish and the food was mediocre. Two of us had the King Crab and we both got sick. Saying that, I think we will try it again after the holidays. Worst case, enjoy drinks and appetizer at the bar -- fantastic setting.
Amazing view & so romantic but poor service.
We have eaten here a number of times over the years and found this to be an improved experience. Most of the staff was friendly. The service is a bit too leisurely. The Chinese Chicken Salad was very enjoyable but could have been improved upon by serving bread. The risotto was cooked perfectly and the combination of Parmesan, asparagus and beets was nicely done. The iced tea seemed bitter, perhaps had been sitting a while. The dessert, a Brownie was more of a mundane chocolate cake and the hazelnut ice cream served with it was not dazzling. The ambience is to die for.
Excellent food, amazing service and not on your face!
The service was very slow and the portion size for the risotto was very small for a main dish.
The food was impeccable. Overall a beautiful experience, as always!
El Encanto is one of the definitive Santa Barbara experiences. Old world charm, unpretentious luxury, fantastic view, and unbelievably delicious food.
Don’t mistake my value rating to mean “inexpensive” unless you’re going for appetizers at happy hour. It’s much cheaper than flying to Italy though.
This visit was for brunch at our
We had the Grouper and the Halibut. They were both extraordinary and inventive! The room was beautiful and the view was incredible. A truly unique, romantic experience. We loved it!
Best service of anywhere I’ve ever stayed.
Always a rewarding experience. Excellent cuisine. Timely service by knowledgeable waiters. Ambiance perfect for special occasions. During warmer times of year the outdoor dining is perfect. I'll be back.
The King Crab was a bit too spicy for my wife's liking, while my son's lamb chop looked heavenly. I remember the views are sublime, but forget the great service then I'm pleasantly surprised. Was tickled to dine between tables of families with young children – I could see everyone, of all ages, was enjoying themselves. Locals' secret: take UBER to the restaurant then walk back to the city; you'll burn some calories as you delight in the hidden stairway that quickly gets you downhill.
Menu choices limited. Char fish was actually Salmon. Service was mediocre. It was a special occasion and had been booked that way but we were not given patio shaded spot. They need to buy more umbrellas.
Birthday celebration for my wife. The view of the city from the terrace was spectacular, the food wonderful, service impeccable. One of our favorite places in Santa Barbara.
The service was poor and slow even though the restaurant appeared not to be that busy. The tables and seating were created for design aesthetics only and not for comfort. Couches are low and the oval table shape seems to move your plate away from you. Our bottle of Syrah arrived chilled, way too cold for drinking.
Magical experience! The food, view, service and knowledge of wine. Perfect place for a date or celebration. Every time I’ve come here I want to go back immediately.
The team there is fantastic! They make a big effort to ensure their guests' satisfaction
Great bar service by Travis.
Expected to enjoy a peaceful experience, good food, and excellent service. The only draw back was the customer next to us who was texting most of the time with an annoying bell for as alert. Awesome SB panoramic view
Birthday celebration. We ordered 2 birthday desserts which we were planning on pay for and then were charged $6 for the "special birthday" treat that we didn't even order with the candle in it!!! Really, we spend $20 & $18 on dessert. AND their corkage fee if $45/bottle, we had 2 of our own, very nice bottles. I had been their previously and think $22 for a mediocre glass of wine is not worth it. At least I knew the wine I brought was good, but the corkage fee is a bit over the top! We are locals and I feel like this place is heaven on earth for the view but the fees and food, well not so much. I was planning on putting this place on my regular "weekly" visit place for that special local something, but I'm going to have rethink this one through.
Beautifully located restaurant (The Terrace is where you want to sit) at a stunning hotel. Food and service was very good, my only slight complaint would be that as they were not terribly busy, the servers did interrupt us during dinner too many times.
Last visit, i didn’t knew about it but the valet parked my car on the disable spot .. then after on hour another customer went to my table to argue with me about it and asked me to move it immediately in the middle of party dinner...
Yesterday another valet put the parking brake on car so strongly that he was unable to take it off ..
This place has definitely been inconsistent in the past few years but I have eaten here twice in the last week (once for lunch and once for dinner) and it was surprisingly quite good .
The ambience is hard to beat when you are seated on patio and our service was excellent both times (previously their other Achilles heel). Alfredo waited on us yesterday and he was a perfect blend of attentive, funny and earnest.
If you are like me and had written it off, consider giving it another try!
Beautiful and delicious food with service to match. The view of the Santa Barbara Riviera isn’t too bad either.
Beautiful view, OK service, not great food. We were hoping this would be our new favorite date spot in SB but were very underwhelmed by the food and unimpressed by the service. We won’t be back.
The service was so uneven that we felt our table had been forgotten several times.
I had not been to El Encanto for years, and had always wanted to go for a special occasion. So we went for our 26th anniversary. I had read reviews saying that service was spotty, but we did not find it so. Service was gracious, efficient, friendly but not intrusive. The entire staff was polite and did everything possible to make our time enjoyable.
We had the sashimi appetizer (outstanding) and the caesar salad (an original take on the classic). For entrees, we had the tenderloin with smokey mashed potatoes and the roast chicken with the slaw and faro. The tenderloin was cooked exactly as my (picky) husband had asked and he was delighted. The smokey mashed potatoes are a reason to go back. The bread, housemade, includes a charcoal apricot bread and comes with a flavored butter, which was outstanding. My chicken was perfection and the autumn flavors of apple and raisins (just a hint) were excellent. We splurged on wine and dessert (we had the floating island and the chocolate cake).
The sun sat as we sat on the quiet, dreamy terrace. After dinner, we walked around the grounds. The arbor was in use, with dozens of candles. Very romantic. We plan to return.
