Friendly service, comfortable booth, good food. Close to our sporting event made it convenient.
had a really bad experience here this week. I've been 3 other times with fine experiences. this one though put a bad taste in my mouth for how the business is run. unfortunate the one bad experience will likely cause me to not return. we had a reservation, but weren't seated for 15 minutes past it once I requested an open table I could see. however, they weren't staffed appropriately for the evening to handle the customer load and we were never served or had anyone come by within the 15 minutes we sat there waiting. ended up leaving and going else where on the fly on a busy night on campus for sure. unfortunate :(
I have coming to thaythrough numerous ownerships.
They still have not bothered to identify the events going on at the University of Minn.
In this case it was the Wisconsin badgers ( duh that should be a big crowd) and the staffing was completely overwhelmed. You also lost an overworked Bartender who according to others had been on for 7 straight days.
Either way you were grossly unprepared and this more the norm than the exception.
My two customers were very unimpressed with the staffing.
To my point- we sat from 6:30 to 7:15 and were never waited on. Sounds unbelievable but that is fact.
To most business owners we long time ago realized a few additional $ for additional staff will generate more-more- more than enough revenue to justify additional staff.
We weren’t even allowed to spend one dime when I expected to spend in excess of $100.
THIS NOT A PROBLEM WITH STAFF-THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH MANAGEMENT.
A VERY DISAPPOINTED LONT TIME GOPHER FAN.

We very much enjoyed our brunch on Sunday before the basketball game. I would have given service a 5 but the food was slow. We had to rush a bit through eating and then one in our party had to stay back to get the bill paid. I am sure we will be back but will try to allow even more time than 1 &1/2 hours.
Awesome waitress! Great food! Wonderful atmosphere.
I would still recommend Beacon, although my experience there was sub par. I ordered the ribeye during this trip, and it came out grossly over cooked. My medium was a tough, livery gray inside. The server (who was excellent, btw) had the cook remake mine, but unfortunately even that one was cooked improperly. As the restaurant was closing I didn’t have a chance to get yet another one. So that effectively ruined my meal.
Service was poor. Took forever to get drinks. The server dropped part of our onion ring order.
The Beacon's food and service is excellent. The noise level becomes unacceptable with the air hockey tables just outside of the restaurant. These tables need to be removed--this is a chronic problem.
Great service allowing us to eat and get to the hockey game.
Shared appetizers. Prosecco. Long chat with friend. Excellent service from mckenzie
Did not have our reservation from Open Table, no table ready.
Not enough staff on to deal with the number of customers in the restaurant.
Excellent food great atmosphere, the food ? AMAZING, for us any way , we will be back again and again and repeat . Tried the chicken sandwich toasted with bacon and tomatoes and a yum yum sauce. Best ever. I wanted to take half home due to having their chili with all the fixings - so savory and delicious on a cool autumn day ! Tried the Bloody Mary. Nothing short of a buffet. Nice selection of sticked treats and meats and cheeses .the Clamato with a splash of the mild was great .stole bites from the kids burgers #excellent. Fries =yum ,
Overall - the service and the food was excellent. Our server was prompt and really knew her job and she treated us well. We were a table of 8 and they put up near the entrance so it was a little bit noisy. It would have been nice if they could seat larger groups further back in the restaurant and away from the hustle and bustle of the hotel.
Nice place. Good food (had the ribeye). Service was friendly. Good atmosphere. Nice variety of seating. Happy hour is a good value
The food that the seven of us received was not very flavorful and most of us did not finish our meals. It was not busy by any means and we still had to wait almost 45 mins to get our food from the time we ordered.

Food was great. Nice portions- we split a dish. Had some fun cocktails that were quite tasty, but were pretty spendy. Would recommend. Parking was close by for the U, but not all that convenient.
We really enjoyed our meal at Beacon Public House , a spur of the moment and first time choice. We were seated in a circular booth with a high back that gave us a little privacy and made it easy to have conversation. The menu had a nice variety of choices of what I would consider "elevated pub" fare. The grilled portabella mushroom sandwich with avocado and goat cheese was excellent as was the grilled turkey burger. Both came with house made chips which were also very good. The apple pie dessert was actually three small apple tarts which we ordered ala mode and they came to the table warm with delicious vanilla ice cream. Our waiter John was friendly, attentive but not intruding . The Moscow mules were good and there was a good selection of local beers. A most enjoyable meal.
Thank you for choosing to dine with us this June. We are so pleased you had an excellent experience and we appreciate you sharing that here. It is music to our ears that you recognized our Gastro-pub style fare. We look forward to seeing you in the future! Sincerely, The Beacon Public House Team!
Service was great. Food was good
Food was wonderful. Great place to have a drink or app before a show. A little overpriced.
Service is great, food is great, please allow budget to have TV’s replaced because backlight on 3/4 TV’s were out. The TV’s did *not* detract from our experience!
The food was absolutely delicious, and our server, Dan, might be the nicest person we’ve ever met. He was wonderful! We will definitely return the next time we visit our daughter!
OK. So we were a bit lazy and decided to eat at the Beacon in our hotel. Well, we ended up eating there every night. I even had the Lobster Gnochi twice. It was that good. And the boom boom sauce with the crab cakes were just as good.
Had a really good time and food was great. It good really loud after 9pm. We were seated in the back by the bar. So avoid seating next to the bar after 9pm
Extra high back booths make for private conversations. The food is artfully made and the wait staff affable. This is the go to in Dinkytown.
Great menu for appetizers and cocktails or a meal. Comfortable. Good TV screens tuned to sports. Craft cocktails.
My loved the fish and chips and she’s particular. I had the walleye which was also excellent. The new blueberry shortcake was awesome!
Amazing service and food. One of the best and go-to’s when in Minneapolis!!
My husband and I went there for dinner prior to a show we were going to at the Northrop. We thought the ambience was nice but service was very slow. Our drinks were served out of plastic clear cups. The food looked good, however lacked any sort of flavor. The most flavorful thing I got was the curry ketchup for my fries and the chips my husband got with his burger. Not worth it for the price at all.
Fabulous food and drinks, and great service. Would definitely be interested in going back.
Great service from Dan and a comfy booth to visit in.
Dance at Northrup
Really did not have a gluten free menu as advertised. I was told to figure it out. I did. We chose it out of convenience as we were staying @ the attached Graduate Hotel.
We go to the Beacon either before or after Gopher basketball games. It's ideal for that! On this occasion, we had breakfast there with friends before an 11:30 a.m. game. The menu was a well-rounded breakfast menu and service and food were very good. We also like the Beacon because we can make a reservation, which is very handy when you know they will be busy. We'll go again!
We went there for a birthday lunch celebration. Dan sang and brought a treat, and was overall a energetic and fantastic server!!! The food was good and we got in and out very quickly. Would go back.
That was the best caesar salad I have ever had! Kudos!
Daughters dance concert brought us to the university and we decided to have breakfast here
I chose this restaurant specifically because of its proximity to a concert venue and because of its "curried sweet potato wild rice burger" (my partner is vegetarian). Because I know menus are prone to change, I was checking the website's AND Open Table's listed menu up to the day of the reservation. Because of that, I was disappointed and aggravated that the menu had changed 3 days prior. When I explained to the server the reason for my frustration (we'd traveled over 3 hours for the show and didn't have enough time to eat elsewhere before the concert), she was very apologetic and empathetic; she said she'd inform the manager that the online menu was incorrect. The manager came over right away, apologized, and offered to comp us a drink, which we accepted. That was appreciated, so we decided to order the fish and chips as the only other vegetarian burger option was a portobello mushroom burger which my partner does not care for (he's OK with shrimp and some fish). The meals arrived quickly, but the quality of the food is the impetus for this review. My partner's fries were salty to the point of being inedible (fortunately, mine were less salty and no problem to share with him as the portion was quite large). The more egregious food error was the frying of the fish. It was greasy and soggy (zero crunchiness) and tasted of old oil. The batter was so soft it had stuck to the basket's paper liner. I could not eat more than a few bites of one of the two fillets in the basket. The taste of old grease lingered in my mouth - I had to chew some mint gum to get rid of it. It was, hands down, the worst battered fried fish I've ever eaten. My partner ate his fish, but said it was greasy and had indigestion all night as a result. Ordinarily, I would have returned such an unacceptable meal, but we were in a hurry to get to the show and did not have the opportunity to do so. Service? Beautiful. Our meals? Yuck.
Basketball game
The walleye was good but heavy on the breading. If the breading I was “lighter” it would have been better
Great spot for drinks and appetizers or lighter fare.
