Located in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood, Bateau is a beef-centric, French inspired restaurant with fresh, local ingredients and bold flavors. Bateau has an extensive wine selection including local and imported wines.

We are adhering to the King County mandates to wear a mask upon entry and when away from your table, as well as showing proof of full COVID vaccination (with a valid ID) for all indoor dining or proof of a negative COVID test within 72 hours of entry.

If I had reviewed the restaurant right after we were there, I would have given a stronger review ... but my wife ended up having a rough night stomach-wise when we got home. We did nonetheless enjoy everything about the meal, except the Tallow Cake. The service was top notch. We admire the concept.

A really great location, great food and (mostly) friendly staff except for one person who was quite short and made it seem like our simple requests were a great bother. I will go back in hopes that we get lucky and visit when this person is not working.

As Seattleites know, Bateau, contrary to its name, is a steakhouse rather than a seafood restaurant. What we regulars know, is that their delectable dry aged steaks are merely one component of a well-composed menu, and the seasonally variable side dishes--including cocktails!--are as much of a draw as the beef. It is a joy and a treat to dine at this restaurant! It is also a great place to celebrate any occasion.

The staff here is fantastic. Knowledgeable and engaged in making a fantastic experience. The starting course was stellar. The three cuts of beef and the suggested side and butter pairings was spot on. An amazingly delicious experience start to finish.

terrific food and ambience. I would only make 2 recommendations: 1. make the menu board something easily uploaded or accessed on a smart phone in some interactive fashion while dining. 2. more vegetarian starters and sides are needed . the food that was on offer was terrific and I will be back again soon

Easily one of the best meals I’ve had in the United States, and certainly the best steak. The starters and sides were no afterthought either! Every bite was incredible.

We went for our anniversary and the concept of picking your own steak was perfect for me. I was a butcher years ago so being able to order unique cuts of prime beef was exciting. And they didn’t fail with their cook and delivery with marrow butter. It’s a meat restaurant and they deliver. But even the masked potatoes were good too.

One of my very favorite restaurants in the world. Incredible hard to find cuts of great dry aged beef. Approachable, super friendly staff and overall a great airy chill vibe for a steakhouse.

We tried their tasting menu which was very nice. Lots of meat in very fancy courses. Enjoyed that. Wine pairing went pretty well with each course. A little pricey for what it was, but I don’t regret spending the money on it. Seattle could use more places like this.

On the COVID-19 logistics, this is the first time a restaurant has asked us to use our masks when ordering at the table. Masks for entry and proof of vaccination are very easy to accommodate, but having to mask every time a server came to our table was ridiculous. If you are meant to follow the letter of their rule, you’re micromanaging your mask for the entire meal which sucks when you’re doing a tasting menu. Furthermore, this is hygiene theater at this point. I’m happy to jump all the hurdles to dine safely, but this one simply does provide any extra safety, at all, especially for guests that a required to be fully vaccinated for entry. This silly rule will probably keep us from coming back until things change.

One word for Bateau - salty. Ordered the 5 course tasting menu for $125.
First the steak tartare. It came with these grain crackers loaded with salt and the steak tartare had an overwhelming taste of horseradish.

The consomme and beef liver mousse was good but I feel like I've had better liver mousse at other restaurants.

The butter basted steak was good but they didn't even ask me how I'd like my steak cooked/prepared. Half of the steak had this herb sauce and the other had this butter sauce.

The mustard greens were super salty and drowning in this xo sauce. I didn't even finish eating it.

The fromage ice cream was good it had this subtle cheesy taste but you're better off skipping dessert here and just getting Frankie and Jo's ice cream next door.

The tallow cake was good as well.

Overall the host and waitress was friendly but the food was salty and overpriced in my opinion. I'd only order the meats here if I ever return.

Absolutely loved this restaurant. Everything was impeccable from the moment we walked in the door. I’ve dined at many different fine dining steakhouses around the country, and this one, is by far my favorite.

5 course tasting menu starts with a deliciously prepared tartare. Everything form there on was going very well until the main course came: sirloin prepared i2 ways. One way was great but the other was so tough, like it had too much connective tissue, that it I was unacceptable. I don’t get why they would pic a mediocre cut like sirloin over, say , iNew York strip which is of better and more stable quality. The other let down was a small pancake that was brought for dessert with a few drops of this and that in too; way too simple and not tasty at all. On the other hand, the cheese ice cream gets an A +

We did the chef’s tasting experience. With the money we’re paying, the steaks weren’t the absolute best. The other dishes such as the appetizers, sides, & dessert was phenomenal. It was my first time having tartare so it was interesting but I would have it again. If I were to come back, I’d rather order an entree from my own choosing.

The steak was tasteless some pieces were tuff. Way over priced for the food. It really was not much of a special experience. This just reinforced my preference for Ruth's Chris and El Gaucho. Was my sons Birthday dinner and i was very disappointed.

We ordered medium rare but came out rare and no one stopped by to ask about our steak. The meat was tough and full of tendens and skin. It was the worst experience and we had to pay $200 for our meal. The server didn't bother to stop by after taking our orders. Fogo de Chao is way better than this place.
