A bit difficult to find but well worth the effort. The setting was open and trendy. The Pasta with Vodka sauce was the BEST I have ever had and the so were the Fried Meatballs. The food quality was some of the best I have had anywhere even in a town known for Italian and the "Hill" where I usually go. So glad I found this spot!

Ambiance was wonderful, restaurant itself is great. Food was decent but my pizza was a bit greasy. My date thought her pasta was ok. That was my first time at the restaurant, so perhaps they have much better food, considering most people love this place. I will def check this place out again.
Basso is always a favorite for us before The Muny. We love the atmosphere and the wonderful food. We eat here often and our teenage daughter and her friends can even find things they like on the menu as well. Happy hour is a good deal also. Would definitely recommend!
First of all, the food is incredibly good, and the ambiance is very cool. It almost looks like a bar inside a cave. However, half of the pizza we ordered was burnt. The service was the slowest I have ever experienced. We saw our waitress maybe three times in the time we spent there. It took about 55 minutes just to get the pizza we had ordered. While there was a lot of people at the time we walked in, by the time we had finished our appetizers (which also took a long time to bring), more than half of the restaurant had already cleared out. Lastly, it is very hot inside this restaurant. I was sweating the entire time just waiting for my food. Would go again solely for the amazing food, but the experience dining there was not a good one.
We hit Basso before heading to the Muny, it was the perfect choice. We took advantage of ordering a couple of things from the happy hour menu along with a salad from the regular menu. The food was very good, the service was quick and friendly and they have a complimentary shuttle (the driver deserves tips, so bring some cash) to the Muny. Talk about a stress free way to get to and from the Muny...you can't beat it.
So very disappointed that Basso took the brussel sprouts off of the menu. They were by far the best in the city and were the reason that we went to Basso last night. I really hope that they reconsider. It is a real loss.
I was told that last night they were training a new chef. Beyond the issue with the brussel sprouts, the garlic knots were hard and dry with much less pecorino romano than usual. While the food was good, I couldn't help but leave disappointed about the brussel sprouts and the knots. Really love the ramp risotto though!
Great waitress. Our first visit there and she was very helpful with suggestions. Salad was delicious as was the pizza. Very reasonably priced. Cozy booth with quiet conversation. Had large tables with groups seated, but those were at one end near the pizza prep and ovens.

First visit to Basso. Really liked it. Atmosphere is top notch.Nice but not stuffy. Great happy hour deal. Pizza & meatballs were excellent. Beer & wine selection was very good & we caught it at happy hour so prices were great. My only "knock" & forewarning when you go, is the parking. They do have valet but I don't know what it costs & tipping of course. Drove around & finally found street parking on the confusing little neighborhood behind restaurant. Let's end on a positive. This is a great, cozy place & I highly recommend it.
It was...average to below average is quality of food and portions. The restaurant relies on the "looking" good part to compensate for the very basic tasting food and small portions. Completely overpriced for what you get. The quality of the food should cost about 30% less than you pay.
The next night we went to Anthonino's Tavern...half the price...twice as good.
In summary: service was horrible. We had a reservation yet got seated 30 minutes past the time (at a table that was meant for waiting and not for dining!), hostesses were rude and incompetent, bartenders were also rude, and took forever for a waitresses to actually take our order.
Food and atomosphere are great but service is inexcusable.
Hum... that was the first impression. The ambiance felt a little oddly placed. It was bustling with people so I was willing to try it. Sadly it wasn't good enough for us to be back. The mushroom pizza had potential with the exception of the questionable vinegar tasting backdrop and it was too salty. Beer was just beer- I think I was expecting more of a gastro pub with more options. The deserts were just so so. I had the homemade kit Kats and my husband had the gelato. Gelato was good. Kit Kat was just fudge sticks. Too rich for me. The after dinner coffee drinks were not correctly prepared. Apparently a new bartender. I don't like to be too picky but this place just wasn't for us. Not horrible... just meh.
