Went during Dine Out and Super Bowl. The Dine Out menu was the only choice, though one of our servers graciously showed us and explained their regular menu in case we decided to return on another night.
The pisco prawns and ceviche appetizers were very good. The paella was relatively tasty but was a bit dry and lacking citrus - it’s on the regular menu so more work is needed to improve this dish.
The brownie was very rich and inconsistent in size, but because it was so rich we didn’t mind that ours were much smaller than the table next to us.
The wine list is very small and not exceptional, but their cocktails are very good.
The service was fabulous despite the restaurant being mostly full, but perhaps that was because we teased our server that we would dismiss him if he was a Pats fan (most if not all of the staff apparently were not). Although the game was on the tv, it was kept discreet and was turned off as soon as it finished, keeping a nice ambiance.

We’d definitely recommend this restaurant for a classy but casual dinner or for small parties so you can share plates. We’ll return!

We went there for the first time to celebrate a family birthday and made reservations. Looking at their website it wasn't apparent the only dinner option for the evening was the Dine Out Menu for $40 each and happy hour didn't apply for this reason. Disappointing! The food was good, but the appetizer portion I had was really tiny and consisted of 3 tiny little pita slices with a small amount of sauce, the Halibut main course size was adequate, but really needed more vegetables and the dessert brownie was only a one inch square, I kid you not! I was hungry by the time we got home.

Portions for appies and dessert were very small - for example 3 small pieces for the pisco prawns dish. main course paella was acidic sour without texture, dishes were under-seasoned in all cases, overall very disappointed at the food, even for dine out standards at $40 pp. Drinks and ambience was good but cannot make up for the poor food.

The food was very good and the sangria was excellent. Our table of 4 found our seating arrangements very tight and it was challenging to fit comfortably around the table. It was also a bit too loud to carry a conversation comfortably.

The food was not what we expected. The Dine out Vancouver menu was disappointing. Course 1 was to be prawns with chorizo sausage, more like 3 shrimps with 2 millimeter square pieces of sausage or some kind. The paella would be an insult to the Spanish people. More like poor rissoto with one clam and one mussel for garnish.
If it wasn’t for the nice waitress who was very accommodating I would not give such a high rating.

Would not recommend or repeat.

Overall disappointing. I did the dine out menu. For my starter I had the picso prawns. There were 2 prawns with some miniscule pieces of chorizo and peppers. It was ok but not brilliant. It was the size of an ameuse geule, 2 bites, definitely not appetizer size.

I had the paella for my main course. Maybe not the worst paella I've ever had but close. The rice was undercooked, there were 2 mussels on top and some over cooked seafood inside. When I've had good paella at restaurants before is always had a whole bunch of seafood in the shell, not 2 measly mussels. Also the delicate flavors of saffron etc. that give it its distinctive taste were pretty much missing.

The dessert was a very small chocolate brownie. Tasty but not what I would expect in a higher price restaurant or a $40 prix fixe.

The best thing I had was the decaf coffee at the end of my meal which was a truly excellent cup of coffee.

The service was friendly but lacking. We were never asked if our dishes were OK.

Also as we were drinking our coffee the waitress came by twice with a jug of ice water to ask if we would like more cold water, but she never offered to top up our coffee. I wasn't drinking cold water anyway. I had hot water before and during my meal, but even though someone came by at least 4 times during the meal to refill the cold water my companion and I weren't drinking, the hot water never got refilled.

Anyway, I had been looking forward to trying out the restaurant, and looking forward to the paella as it is one of my favorite dishes, but it was disapointing.

It was also amazingly noisy. I had to scream to carry on a conversation with the friend I was with.

Went there for Dineout 2018. This was a $40 menu. Every dish except for one appetizer was awful. My partner's ceviche was incredibly sour and over-seasoned, so much so that we could not even taste the ingredients. I had the prawns which were only decent. For entrees, we got the paella and halibut. Both took over 40 minutes to be served and yet the rice in both dishes was still terribly undercooked and hard. The fish was overcooked in both dishes as well and it's clear they use frozen seafood. The spiced brownie they had for dessert was neither spiced or brownie-like. It was a cold, dense and tough chunk of sugary dough drenched in a grainy sugary sauce. Both the sauce and brownie did not taste like chocolate at all. On the other hand, the service was great. Our server was friendly and attentive.

All of this would have been disappointing even as a $20 menu and it was certainly a waste of our time. It was clear Baru Latino was not prepared for Dineout at all. Their appetizers and desserts came out almost instantaneously so they were definitely premade. The only things they really had to make on the spot were the entrees and they messed up on those too. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

We tried Baru Latino's Dine Out menu hoping to get some Spanish/Latin American cuisine. The food had no hint of Spanish/Latin flavours or spices. This was my first visit to this restaurant and will probably be my last. I'll stick with Espana or Bodega for my Spanish/Latin fix.

I understand this is a Dine Out menu, but the portions for the first course were too small – especially for a $40 menu. The ceviche and pisco prawns had no flavour, although the presentation was fine.

I ordered the paella for my second course. Traditionally, paella is made with paella or bomba rice – this was made with some sort of basmati rice. Also, my paella came with two clams that were unopened, which is completely fine because it means they were bad but there should be some quality control with the food that was expedited out. Also, saffron is key for a paella, and this had none of that spice whatsoever.

For the dessert, there was one option – a chocolate brownie. This was definitely not made in house and was purchased from a bakery. I make this assumption because the brownie was basically frozen when it was served to us.

My daughter and I ended up doing a Dine Out Vancouver experience at Baru - we had no idea it would be a set menu. The food was exceptionally good and the service was outstanding - our server was very friendly, chatty, and informative about both the menu options, as well as what Dine Out Vancouver was all about. We will definitely go back again. And again.

Been here a couple times, kinda like a hidden gem. Great date spot. Fantastic cocktails. Nice to have a place like this in the neighborhood. We most recently were there for dine out- prawn appy= delish, paella= could have been better (I think it's was maybe mass produced for dine out, it was rather flat tasting and the seafood a bit spongy, my fiance had the halibut which was definitely the way to go. The choco brownie dessert was a bit pasty, would have been nice to have another option for the dessert. Love this place though :)

We went for Dine out 2018 for the 700 seating. The staff that greeted us were friendly. Our starters were very small. Hubby had the shrimp and chorizo starter. It was 3 shrimps and chopped chorizo. I had the ceviche with a tostone. It was ok. Our entrees came soon after but were very underwhelming. It needed seasoning. Hubby had the lamb shank and I had the paella. We finished our meal with 2 small pieces of a brownie. We were finished in about 30 minutes. Very underwhelmed and will probably not come back. We have been to other $40 dine out venues and this was sub par.

I live in the area and never been there till Vancouver din out!! we just tried it and it is very good place. I will defiantly go back there again.
