What Insiders Are Saying
Too many tacos recently? Barlata's mix-and-match small plates will get you out of your food rut.
Food was great, service was great, definitely a repeat! Hands down, best cheese plate I’ve had.
Loved this! The fideuo and paella were so amazing and the tapas very authentic.
Excellent as always! Julia our server was amazing! The food was great! We had an amazing time.
Monday all day happy hour: food and drinks.
Great way to try LOTS of tapas and save some money.
Tasted great but got sick from the food.
Everything tasted great here — we really enjoyed our cocktails, and we tried about 5 different dishes. However, my partner had to leave the table before finishing either dessert or his second drink, and spent the rest of the evening extremely ill. We’ve concluded it was the mussels in the paella that made him sick, as it’s the only thing he ate that I didn’t try as well. He did call Barlata the following evening to tell them, and received an apology, but unfortunately our night (and rather expensive meal) was ruined.
I had a wonderful birthday dinner with my wife and daughter. Good wine with great tapas. The vegetarian paella was fantastic!
This is one of our favorite restaurants in Austin. We go often and we bring friends. Everyone loves it! The food is delicious and authentic. The drinks are always perfect! We love most of the tapas but our favorites are the Gambás al Ajillo, papas bravas, Paella Barlata, and the croquetas!
We were there on a Monday at 6:30p and even though the place wasn't busy, our waiter, Nate, seemed to be distracted. He's been our waiter before and was great so we think he must have been having an off night. The food is so good, we won't let slower than usual service deter us from going back.
Took my son to Barlata for his birthday and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. Great variety in an a comfortable atmosphere. Shrimp in oil & garlic was outstanding, along with paella and braised oxtail + mashed potatoes.
Our server did a wonderful job describing items - wine and dishes - and making recommendations. The timing was a little off, as we got three of our plates on top of each other. One of the other servers noticed when delivering the third plate, and asked the kitchen to slow for us. Then, it got a little too slow... Even so, the food was really wonderful. We started with a cheese plate; all wonderful flavors with a yummy fig accompaniment. Then, we had the Ahi tuna, which just melted in your mouth, and the potatoes, which were very good. From the hot menu, we had the scallops (OMG!) and pork belly - what else is there to say :-) We finished up the meal with the chocolate souffle, with which the server provided a stylishly-delivered champagne that one pours into their mouth. Except for timing, the dinner was lovely.
Delicious tapas and paella . Service was rushed - not sure why ... lots of open tables and no one waiting.
We have been going to BTB for years. And while the food is great, the service is fantastic! Erik is a knowledgeable, attentive server. We go to Barlata because Erik makes every occasion special.
We went for our anniversary and they did a nice job seating us in a cozy booth and greeting us with a class of cava as soon as we sat down. The dinner menu online needs updating because the dinner menu at the restaurant does not include all of the items listed. It appears they pulled a number of dishes.
This is one of my favorite places to eat! Reminds me of Spain :)
Carlotta has the best Spanish tapas and wines in Austin! The menu is very authentic with ample selections available. The paella and sangria are to die for. Other favorite tapas are the tortilla española, patatas braves, croquettes, and the spanish cheese board.
For my money, the Arroz Negre is the best dish on the menu, but everything I've tried at Barlata has been very good.
Never an issue to get a table, but we love sitting at the bar which usually has a chair or two open. A bit pricey but the food and service are outstanding. Worth it when you go out in Austin. Authenticity of tapas is awesome!
All the dishes we ordered were outstanding with the exception of dessert. The custard had an unusual flavor that we just “didn’t get.”
First time there and we loved it! Great food and service!
This was our 1st time to dine at Barlata. We went for the tapas but were hoping for a good paella. Well, the Tapas were fine and the paella the best we've found in Austin. we'll definitely be back.
Limited menu. I’ve been to much better Spanish restaurants. Would not reccomendcit. Mediocre at best.
This has become one of our favorite places to visit while in Austin several times a year. We first came 3 years ago with our exchange student from Barcelona to give him a taste of home that he had been missing since his arrival. Seeing his reaction was priceless, especially when he realized the owner/chef was from his hometown. Now we are hosting his sister, also from Barcelona. And, of course, we had to let her have her own experience. Barlata never disappoints... always a wonderful experience, and according to our exchange students, so authentic and so delicious!!!!
Happy hour was a great value! Service was friendly and quick, Estrella Damm on tap, felt just like I was in Barcelona!
We’ve been to Barlata many times. Besides the fact that the food is amazing and truly authentic (my mom is from Spain), they really do know how to pace a meal. All of our hot dishes were hot, and we weren’t bombarded all at once. Well paced and delicious!!! Barlata never disappoints!
One of our favorites, no matter what hot spots come and go on the Austin food scene. * Excellent paella and wine list.
Barlata is the destination spot for anybody who wants to enjoy what would it be to have dinner in Barcelona or the Spanish Mediterranean coast. The menu is authentic but you can also find a few Texas gems like the brisket canelone.
They know how to incorporate local foods and maintain the essence of Spain in every bite.
With my Spanish wife we have been to Spain many times. The Spanish food in the USA can't compare with the fresh food and tapas we get in Spain, however Barlata is as close as any restaurant in Austin can get. The tapas selection is wonderful. The patatas bravas is the best I have eaten in America. Also the cheese plate, croquetas de jamon, gambas aljillo, and desserts are fantastic. Great mussels and jamon also. Definitely worth a visit is one wants authentic Spanish food.
Wonderful food and service. Luke was an excellent server. Attentive, checking on us so frequently we never had to wait for anything. Great cocktails. Great food. Great ambiance. Great service. We had a larger party and they had no problem keeping up with us. Will definitely recommend and return!
This is an overrated place. It was my wifes birthday. We paid $48 dollars for two Barlatas Paella and it was dissapinting. The paella was burnt. They charge $24 dollars for a paella that is not enough for a 2 year old kid. The service was poor. I am never coming back.
Excellent food and variety. House Sangria was light, refreshing, not too sweet. Perfecto. Good server and overall experience. Parking easy for being So. Lamar. We will go again.
The service was not only slow, but inefficient. It took 4 trips for our waitress to bring the right bottle of wine, 2 glasses and the ice bucket. Also, she took a long time to even greet us, whic she didn't apologize for. Even the host was surprised when we asked him about the wait. Also, as a former waitress, I know the best/fastest way to chill wine is an ice bath (water plus ice). Our bottle of cava was not cold enough and needed that. So we resorted to pouring the water in our water glasses into the bucket. The food was amazing and the service was much better last time we were there or we would not go back.
Loved Barlata’s experience in its entirety... as always!
Food was pretty good but the portions are small. Most of what ordered had the overwhelming taste of salt but not much else in the way of seasoning. Walked out of the restaurant spending $100 for two and still felt hungry.
Partner liked the drinks. Croquettes were very good. Pinxtos were good deal and quite tasty. Barlata Paella and Spanish tortilla were just okay—chicken, chorizo, and potatoes were chopped too finely. Desserts were good.
Some of the entrees were too salty, love the variety of options and cocktails are incredible
We had Pinxtos when we were on vacation in Spain, so we were happy to see a restaurant offering Spanish/Bosque style cuisine right here in Austin. Creative menu and offering something different for date night. We will definitely be back.
My son and I dine at Barlata happily, and often and always appreciate the atmosphere and great service with our usual crew :).
Our server didn’t even know she was supposed to be serving us, so we sat for 10-15 minutes unattended. Many servers walked by and we expected at least one to stop and check, but instead we had to flag someone down and ask who our server was. The food was good, but the portions were NOT truly tapas and paella style dishes. The small paellas weren’t even enough for one person, let alone to be able to share any. We left hungry and a hole burnt in our pockets.
The portions were too small even for tapas and way over priced. As for paella ... I make a better one.
