About Bar Primi
Bar Primi is a corner pasta shop devoted to ‘primi piatti,’ the pasta course. What began as an idea for a small space in New York's East Village has since become an essential in chef and co-owner Andrew Carmellini's range: fresh pasta traditionally prepared and cooked to order. At Bar Primi, the main course is Primi Piatti. We use a variety of non-GMO semolina and specialty ‘00’ flours, organic eggs and handed-down techniques to create our menu of Traditional and Seasonal pasta dishes. We make more than a dozen different shapes and styles daily. This includes lumache and rigatoni from our imported extruder or ravioli and mezzalune cut and filled by hand. Family recipes and secrets are traded between Carmellini and Brooklyn-born chef-partner Salvatore Lamboglia who also offers a daily meat or seafood special in addition to a selection of shareable Piccolini and Antipasti, artisanal cheese, salumi and simple home-style desserts.

Bar Primi Ratings and Reviews
Went for s friend’s birthday. The place is lovely and cozy. They gave us a great table. Unfortunately the service was spotty. While the staff was attentive, they didn’t give us the things we asked for. We spoke to several people about getting some bread. Finally, the fourth person brought it. They also took away appetizer plates before we were finished. A request for salt was also ignored. The food was tasty but sadly the service will probably be the reason I don’t come back.
It’s a very well designed space, not cramped at all for Manhattan. Very attentive service by everyone who approached our table. The young men refilling our waters and clearing and marking the table between courses were absolutely spot on. It was our first visit and Rebekah explained everything in great details, listened to our questions and answered them and unfailingly accomodated all my requests. Thank you Bar Primi!
Overall the meal was very delicious!
We started with 2 orders of the Brussels sprouts and 2 orders of the ricotta crostini. Both were EXCELLENT!!!
Pasta: linguini with garlic, bucatini, orecchiette, seafood Campanella.
I think everyone thought the pasta was great but not superb. The linguini and bucatini were very very salty. They could’ve definitely toned it down with the salt.
Dessert: tiramisu & panna cotta
Both desserts were really delicious. I don’t usually like tiramisu but loved this one. Maybe I prefer a more Cakey consistency which is what I loved. The panna cotta is a Close 1st. Pieces of cannoli shell was on top with pistachio and thought it was unique and delicious.
Bar Primi never disappoints! My husband and I have been coming to Bar Primi for several years now and always enjoy! Incredible menu- excellent quality pastas for a very decent price, best Tiramisu and great service! Their lunch special is a great deal! If you are searching for a romantic dinner- recommend upstairs area- very cozy there!
Lovely place, Lovely food and service was great, But Please,? Dont come running filling water up After every zip one takes! Anoying !! A big minus was a Really big party of 12 college students beside us being Really loud, rude and having conversations not suitable for a restaurang and no one in the staff reacted ! Not Nice and made the evening a bit negative touch .
Good Christmas Eve dinner but it was odd that an Italian restaurant was out of their only fish dish when it’s customary for Italians to eat fish on Christmas Eve. The meal was still enjoyable though the table was a bit cramped and we are on the petite side.
Food had great flavor but not sure of the value but given it's NYC its on par.
Service was attentive but it was way over done as it seemed they were just trying to turnover the table and get us out the door.
Didn't like how I has to ask for some bread and olive oil. Should of been asked if we'd like some from our waitress.
Not sure I'd come back as there are many other Italian spots in the city.
Place was fun, food was good, waiter was incredibly irritating. Endlessly pacing around all of his tables, it went far beyond helpful to just being plain rude. He became very short with us if we weren't quick enough to complete each of the stages of our meal so we felt very rushed throughout.
We visited Bar Primi during a trip to New York. It was absolutely delicious. We both agreed it was one of our favorite meals. We each had a cocktail. We didn’t pick from any of the Italian cocktails, went with an Old fashioned and Dirty martini. We started with the Brussels sprouts with crispy pepperoni, and had the Penne pasta and Linguine pasta for our entrees. Both were size able portions. For dessert we shared the Nutella sundae. I would definitely recommend going here with a group of 2-4 people. They did have larger tables but it felt like a more intimate dining experience with a couple of people. Wait staff was super helpful and attentive. Definitely will be going back!
I take these reviews seriously. I felt that our waitress rushed us. She would not allow us to order appetizers prior to dinner, saying that the kitchen preferred one whole order. Ridiculous. I felt the seats were uncomfortable. I felt that the ambiance was sterile. For example, there was no music. The pasta (kale fusilli) was over-cooked and not hot. The bread was mediocre. The wines by the glass were cautiously poured to not not exceed a preset limit, and the wine itself - averaging $15/glass - was not very good for red Italian wine. I had two kinds. I also felt that the tables were too close together. Bar Primi needs to improve their food quality, service, and ambiance. There are so many more, fun Italian restaurants in NYC that I do not see how they are competitive.
