Bar Primi is a corner pasta shop devoted to ‘primi piatti,’ the pasta course. What began as an idea for a small space in New York's East Village has since become an essential in chef and co-owner Andrew Carmellini's range: fresh pasta traditionally prepared and cooked to order. At Bar Primi, the main course is Primi Piatti. We use a variety of non-GMO semolina and specialty ‘00’ flours, organic eggs and handed-down techniques to create our menu of Traditional and Seasonal pasta dishes. We make more than a dozen different shapes and styles daily. This includes lumache and rigatoni from our imported extruder or ravioli and mezzalune cut and filled by hand. Family recipes and secrets are traded between Carmellini and Brooklyn-born chef-partner Salvatore Lamboglia who also offers a daily meat or seafood special in addition to a selection of shareable Piccolini and Antipasti, artisanal cheese, salumi and simple home-style desserts.

Our appetizers were amazing. We had the ricotta toast and the cauliflower Cacio e Pepe. Both were outstanding. My pasta dish was not good. I can’t even remember what it was called ciofe something. I thought it had a zucchini flower on it but it didn’t. It was just off. My partners dish the spaghetti with clams was better. For dessert we shared the chocolate panna cotta that was awful. Flavorless. The cherries took over the dish completely and we did not eat it.
Service was great. Atmosphere was great.

Bar Primi was as stellar as ever. Took my wife for her birthday as she has a soft spot for Italian food and this is our favorite spot hands down. Spectacular service all around paired with incredible food offerings. Can’t wait to enjoy another cheat day here. Keep it up guys!

The pasta here is amazing! they have something for everyone. I also love the sundae desert, it has nutella ice cream and chocolate sauce with real hazelnuts. Bar primi is quiet during weekdays even at night but on the weekends at night it gets pretty loud.

Great ambience. Great food. Great service.
Ordered Squid Ink Campanella, and was absolutely amazing. Also had the pasta with pancetta and pecorino, another great pasta that would definitely recommend!

Not generous at all with their portions. I had 6 pieces of small ravioli on my plate and they tried to make the plate look more full by adding more tomatoes in the sauce. I had to fill myself with bread, there are better Italian restaurants in NYC that will offer better portions for the same price and quality.

I chose this restaurant for my birthday dinner because I love pasta. My party arrived within a 15 minute window of my reservation time and did not receive any hassle from staff for being a little past the actual reservation time. That was great. The ambience of the restaurant was nice it was slightly cramped for a seven person table but it was very lively at 9:30PM on a Friday night in mid September. As far as the food goes, it was good, however I found the plates to be small portions for some of the prices on the menu. Felt like I had only 4 fork-twirls of pasta. The froze was great choice. My parents called the restaurant ahead of time and ordered a bottle of champagne that was poured by servers after we sat down. Assumed dessert would have been on the house considering the occasion was for my birthday, they did put a candle in it however.

Service was terrible... There were 3 servers 'Trying' to service us and they were all rude and got our order wrong. The food was either cold or hot but not cooked enough since they rushed to bring the order after making a mistake twice.
Very dissatisfied.

We had a delicious meal with friends at Bar Primi. The portion sizes of the appetizers were great for sharing -- we sampled four different items on the menu. On a hot, sticky night, the watermelon salad was splendid! The pasta was fresh and delicious, and nicely seasoned. Desserts can also be shared (don't miss the tiramisu). The staff was friendly and attentive, and helpful with suggestions for ordering. I highly recommend this restaurant!

Bar Primi is quickly becoming one of my fave spots. It's a great go to for almost any occasion. The cocktails are great & the bartenders are pretty engaging. The food is delicious and pretty much all the seating is awesome. You feel like you can breathe and relax here. It's quite big and open but still feels really calm and friendly. This is a great spot to have a talkative brunch with cocktails & carbs. You can also get some decent people watching in if you have a view of Bowery. I've taken my suburban parents here. It was a good dad spot.

This place is good. Pretty little spot. Airy and nicely set up. Felt a tad rushed at lunch and there weren’t a lot of people there. But overall food was nicely made. Meatball appy was tasty.
The frozen rose was probably my least favorite one to date.Right. You don’t order a frozen drink or sangria in an Italian place. BUT broke my rule cause it was hot.
Don’t bother.

I made a reservation for just myself for restaurant week and I was seated at the bar. That is the most annoying thing as a solo diner. It literally makes you feel like you are unworthy. If I wanted to sit at the bar I wouldn’t have made a reservation. Also, the gelato was highly over churned to the point where it was crumbling and the bartenders response, though apologietic, was “well, it is the last day of restaurant week.” Okay, sir. Whatever you say. Not sure if I’ll be back.

Service was slow. Our waiter was standing around most of the time. Appetizers for 3 of the 5 of us were brought out. We waiting for the other 2 to get their cheese plate. Took more than 10 minutes to come while our waiter told us twice, that it's on its way. Food was just good. Nothing special. And portions were quite small.

Went with a friend to Bar Primi with a friend for dinner. We ate outside since it was a beautiful night. Had the frozen Rose which was great and perfect for the hot evening. We had to wait a long time for our salad to arrive. ( I think we were forgotten about) However, once the error was noticed the rest of the meal went smoothly. Everything we ate was delicious, in particular the arancini. We received these for our long wait on the house, and turned out being our favorite part of our meal. I would return despite the error in service.
