Bar Mercurio Toronto
Welcome to bar MERCURIO. We are a quaint Italian restaurant that serves fresh pasta, a fish of the day, classic antipasti, and not - like our whole grilled artichoke. With our salads you will find an anchovy partial Caesar salad to a healthy kale salad with Pecorino cheese.
What stands out are our pizzas. Our pizza dough has been a family recipe for over 100 years and not compromised. We don't do any of the new soft dough stuff that is trendy and etc etc
We serve classic pizzas like buffola and prosciutto to "crazy" stuff like rapini and Grey Owl goat's cheese sausage.
Our gluten free crust is uncompromising, made entirely from rice flour.
In addition, we are pleased to be able to offer an interesting selection of wines and cocktails.
We look forward to hosting you.
I think that the atmosphere was great and we have enjoyed dining at the restaurant greatly. Good pasta and the team has complemented the appetizers and entres. For the areas of improvement, those would be with the visual atmosphere -- there seems to be an opportunity to improve the visual appeal of this great place.
The service is perfect, the surroundings are lovely and the food is always good. Lots of new faces (servers, bartenders, etc.) that are very welcoming.
Location is perfect for Koerner Hall concert attendees. Bar Mercurio is a neighbourhood gem.
Lunch menu on their website lools fantastic. However the day we went it was not the same as the actual lunch menu (which didnt have any of the more interesting items appearing on the website). Seeing nothing but standard unimaginative pastas and similar that almost every italian place has and not particularly inspiring we (disappointingly) ended up getting individual sized pizzas each costing almost $30. Pizzas were pretty good but no more so than a $5 slice from pizzaiolo.
Always delicious food, wonderful wine. A great, really Italian, neighbourhood spot
Have eaten at Mercurio in the past, and enjoyed. Knew it would be busy, so made a res for 1pm. Arrived a few minutes early, was told to sit at the bar....offered no menu or bar service as we waited. A 2-table was empty. 10 min later asked about sitting there, and was told it was booked for 6. No sure how that was happening as the next table was also being used...yet we could not have the empty table. Told to wait...likely another 10 min. Turns out it was the owner seating and he said people came late for lunch (assume w/o reservation) .... basically making our reservation useless. When I asked him if 10 min additional wait is realistic, he said maybe 20. Showing total indifference to the reservation booking. I asked if we could eat at the bar, as he quickly walked away ignoring the question. Sat for a 5 more minutes and he came back and acknowledged us again, asking if we would like to sit at the bar. We then left. This restaurant has been around for many years and many holiday seasons, so there was no excuse for this to occur....plus the owner was condescending and dismissive. Definitely sensed there were 'regulars' in the restaurant. So, if you want to deal with a condescending and dismissive owner who does not recognize reservations, I recommend.
Our waiter was so nice and friendly. We have came twice and loved it
Food was great and our waiter, Roberto, is always fantastico!
Fantastic spot with exceptional service. Delicious pasta and pizza and very nice ambience in the restaurant.
It was incredible. The experience was a 10 from entering the restaurant to leaving. We have been to many fine restaurants but no doubt this one was right up there with them. We arrived with an inviting greeting and offered a seat at the bar where we ordered a cocktail. Both cocktails were made with fresh ingredients, no cheesy bar lime. Then we sat at a cozy seat for two. Our server was very knowledgeable and gave us great direction with our choices. Every bite from apps to desserts melted in our mouths and we savoured every flavour. We would definitely return on our next trip into Toronto
Very warm and inviting atmosphere, we felt like we weee in a upscale New York City restaurant.! The staff are very friendly, the owner was very welcoming. Great Italian food - service was a bit slow but I would happily go there again!
We eat here frequently. This was the best meal we have had here in memory.
Thanks Joe! Great service and great food.
Although I love the ambience and the location, the food and the value don’t compare favourably to other high end Italian restaurants.
Excellent food. Very good service. Prices for specials not communicated and a bit of a surprise.
Food was yummy and their tiramisu was delicious!
Great location. I thought the lunch was a bit over-priced. A non-descript small salad beside eggplant parmigiano for $25.00 . Tea was $6.00. Ambience is pleasant.
Sat at the front. Good table and good service. The trout was great as was the Prosecco.
Sat at the bar which was nice
This place has impeccable service. Highly recommend
Very nice food in a pleasant atmosphere. Attentive service by experienced wait staff. Parking in the basement of the hotel next door is an added convenience.
Excellent friendly service. Good food, but lunch menu is a little pricey considering this is a casual bistro.
Great as always
Used to like it, but clearly others have given up on it. At 29 dollars for a pepperoni pizza and another 18 dollars for a beet salad at lunch it is no wonder that there were only two other people sitting down when we arrive at noon on a nice Friday. Was always a bit pricey, but the food was very good so it was tolerated. Just can’t bring myself to do that anymore. I hope the owners get this message and adjust before they have to close.
Excellent food and service. We’re looking forward to our next visit.
Nice dinner with my family, great food, friendly bustling place right on Bloor. My pizza was outstanding
I ate here three times on a recent visit to Toronto. The food is great. I had a different main dish every night, and they were all very good, though I liked the pasta with bolognese sauce and the amazing gnocchi with porcini mushrooms the best. The table was cramped two of the three nights, but staff helpfully take your coats. Our waitress the first night was brusque; we felt a little bit as if we were children who needed to be disciplined. The proprietor waited on us the other nights and was very congenial. I was disappointed in the house Prosecco; the Franciacorta was much better, but also much more expensive. I think they could improve on the one Prosecco they offer by the glass.
Pre-concert at Koerner Hall so we didn’t have lots of time. Service accommodated our needs. I want to return for a more leisurely meal.
Love going there. One thing though. Asked the server if she knew where a nearby theatre was koerner Hall where we were to after dinner . She said nahhh and walked away. A better server would find out and tell us!
I am a long-time customer but noticed a few changes this time. All the old wait staff has disappeared and the new - and not as great - staff has taken over.
The pre-meal bread with white bean spread was fabulous as always. The wine list seemed updated and I liked the glass of Canadian pinot noir I chose. I love their Caesar salad (it is huge and perfect for sharing as well as the pizza. No interest in dessert and the Americano I had was ok but not as great as I would expect in an Italian restaurant.
Overpriced, inattentive service, mediocre food. For the prices charged, one would expect ALOT more. Our 2nd visit. And our last!
I love Bar Mercurio and have been many times over the years. The last few times I feel the food is not as good and the price seems to get higher.
I don't want to give up on it but I think there are lots of other good places
Bar Mercurio staff is always warm and welcoming, and very attentive. The food is fresh and authentic to its Italian roots, with bright flavours of simple ingredients. Nonetheless, the dishes are creative, but never contrived. It's a place you want to go back to time and time again.
This place, the service team and la cucina have got it all Right! What a delightful experience.
Wonderful gluten free pizza. One of the best!
Celebrated my boyfriends bday.
my favorite restaurant in Toronto; ask the owner Joe for a plate of antipasto and you'll get a wild array of conventional and innovative delicacies; I've never had calamari so tender. the bread is sublime, served with a bean spread spiced just right for whatever wine they serve, and the list of whites is particularly diverse.
Wonderful as always!
Such a wonderful place if only they could learn to cook meat.
The nicest people greeted us. After being seated, the waitress asked if we would like to change tables to a more quiet location. Sure! Food good - the pizza crust was fantastic! I could use more tomato sauce, cheese and pepperoni on “the best pizza in Canada” which was delicious but shy on ingredients. Rigatoni was with mom’s homemade sauce and did not disappoint. Husband does not know tipping rules, yet, after all this time...he tipped 15% and when I realized, I was so embarrassed after how nice they were. Sooooory.
Thank-you for your comments! Please come back to see us!
Incredible restaurant! Great service, and delicious food highlighting seasonal ingredients. On my three day trip to Toronto, I went here twice! Would highly recommend.
