They’re back! Food was awesome and the place feels like home. Made for a perfect New Year’s Eve celebration
My friends and I had NYE dinner here. The food was great and the service was excellent! I love the ambiance.
This is an amazing place. the service, covid caution and the food is great. We have gone for years and are never sorry.
First time visiting this restaurant. The atmosphere was oddly quiet and awkward. The food was all just ok, but the service was pretty poor. There were very few customers, but our server was extremely slow and not attentive at all. He came across very disengaged in his job and just went through the motions. We waiting significantly long between his visits and almost 30 minutes before we could find him to get our check after we finished eating. It’s kind of sad considering how many restaurants are closed for inside dining. I’m sure other servers would be grateful for the job. He obviously didn’t care too much. I won’t be returning.
Excellent food and service. Fresh bread with carpaccio. Yum. Will be back.
Bar Italia provided great food in a great setting. The service was excellent. We felt very welcomed and will return.
We always enjoy the food. Even with a shortened menu we found exactly what we wanted for dinner.
Excellent service, very attentive and friendly staff.
Even with the socially distant spacing of tables, the ambience is still warm and cozy.
I had a confirmed reservation for 3 people. When we arrived at the restaurant, they did not have a table for us, they sat us outside in the cold, plastic tent. We had a confirmed "inside" dining reservation. While we were waiting, a couple just walked in from the outside, sat down right next to our table. I explained the Covid seating to the waitress...then they took the couple with NO reservation inside to wait for a table. When we asked them, they skirted the issue. We left, went to Retreat Gastro Pub and had a fabulous dinner. Never again!!!
Fabulous patio and food. Attentive but not overbearing service. Thank you for a lovely evening!
Outdoor in a tent. Very comfortable. Good spacing. Good ventilation. And of course the food is delicious
The manager was great. It was almost closing time. But he accommodated us.
Great food and service. Loved the patio!
Seated in the small room and it was quiet. Choices for vegetarians and meat lovers. Appetizers, pastas and mains were all tasty.
It's been five years since we tried Bar Italia (moved away). Glad we stopped on Saturday night. Wonderful dinner for three people - Salome, Bistecca alla Grigliz and Fettuccine Tri Amici were all wonderful. The wine recommended by our server were excellent.
We had a great time celebrating my birthday! The owner was very gracious and super knowledgeable of the wine pairing.
Lovely neighborhood spot. The food and service are excellent. We enjoyed our entrees, and the server suggested a very nice wine. Recommended!
Typically this is a very good restaurant. However, on Valentine’s Day, the experience was NOT good. The steak arrived rare and when it was sent back to be cooked to medium the individual who brought it out never said a word and just dropped the plate on the table. When cutting into the steak it was still rare and largely not eatable. Likewise, the other person in the party ordered a pasta with vegetables Which arrived cold. I understand Valentine’s Day is a very busy day for restaurants, though this is not the experience I am used to having at bar Italia.
Spent $190 on dinner. My wife had lamb chops and a rum and pineapple juice. I had the tenderloin a Tanqueray and tonic and 1 glass of Cabernet with my dinner. Lamb chops were over cooked. My tenderloin was really good. Ambiance was good. Service was pretty good. Limited menu. Pretty meh restaurant a lot of money. Overall disappointed.
Great service and atmosphere. Happy that they serve grappa as well! A St. Louis gem.
Bar Italia is a favorite. The menu is varied; the food is well prepared and presented. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and available; the service is correct without being stuffy.
Great experience. Our table near the window was private but a little cold — but the food and service made up for that!
Great food, good service. Overall, a lovely dining experience. The owner came by our table and made suggestions for an after dinner drink. There are many options for Italian food in St. Louis, but this is really a cut above.
Hannah was our server. Amazing experience.
We found Bar Italia on a recent trip to St. Louis. We dined early (5pm) so the noise was at a minimum. Both appetizers (bruschetta and caponata) were great. Both pasta dishes were good.
James was our waiter for dinner and his service style was attentive and friendly. He was able to give good recommendations based on our questions and made us feel as if we made the right choice to spend our money and enjoy our dining experience at this restaurant.
NYE dinner and everything was excellent!!
Food was very good. A little loud if you have any type of hearing deficiency.
The noise level was extreme. However, it was Christmas Eve and we were next to a large group. It only slightly distracted from the dinner.
Enjoyed a lovely dinner on Christmas Eve with my husband. He throughly enjoyed the hibiscus cocktail!
Birthday Dinner before the theatre.
Staff holiday dinner
Kelly was an exceptional waitress. Very attentive, quick, and patient with us. We had a great time.
Wonderful fettucunni tutti mare with a light and delicate butter garlic sauce.
Disappointing dinner at Bar Italia. Previous visits had provided great food and solid service. However, on our most recent visit we encountered a rushed main course that was flung upon our table as salads were still being eaten - poor timing.
Fennel salad was very good, but that was the highlight. Bolognese ragu was OK but not as hearty as we recalled.
Finally, no tiramisu available. At an Italian restaurant? How difficult is it to make this Italian staple dessert on an otherwise quiet night? Do you run out of this dessert in a half full restaurant because you no longer care?
All in all, the experience fell far short of the excellent expectations set by our three previous visits to Bar Italia.
We were taking some friends out to celebrate their recent wedding. It took forever to get our guest's entree, which was rare when she got it. They took it back and it came out blackened. Third time it was fine, but all the little veggies on the plate were gone. It looked so good when it first came out. Then, my wife's food made her sick and she had to leave. Not a great wedding present! The poor waitress tried so hard, but she seemed overworked and was almost running around. They took the lamb off, gave us a free cocktail and a gift card. We won't be going back, though. The place seemed nice, and I could accept that our situation was a fluke. This was just our unlucky experience.
We were in St Louis for a wedding, we needed a nice restaurant near the Chase Park Plaza for our ever changing number of out-of-town guests for a Friday night dinner.
The service was great. Changing the reservation for 12 to 8, and then to 13 people - 45 minutes before we arrived - was no problem. We had our own long table in a separate room, with a dedicated server. The food was delicious. There were two wine lists with several wines we recognized, we went with the Poggio.
Overall, a New York level food experience, with a lower noise level, a much lower bill, and the congenial service that I enjoy in the St. Louis area.
Our other reservations canceled on us last minute and with a group of twelve, I was concerned I wouldn't be able to find anything so I was super grateful for Bar Italia finding space for us and making us feel welcome! The food was pretty expensive but the drinks were really great - I ordered the bellini. The location is great as well and made for great bar hopping fun.
