Great food and good service for the price you pay.
We like to try new places near to the theatre. The piped music was great, we could have listened all night. The front door downstairs made a discernible, distracting noise every time it banged shut. Food was ok, server didn't seem to know a great deal about the menu and then disappeared for long periods. We knew there was going to be a party later, but felt they could have started setting up at the other end of the room first. Awkward! We won't make a return visit I am afraid.
I think this place can get away with the price of bottomless brunch mimosas since this is in a very high tourist area, but compared to other neighborhood bottomless brunch deals...this place is a rip-off.
We went for brunch. I have been here for happy hour/dinner and had a much better experience. But this was pretty mediocre. I got the burrito. It was fine but nothing special and priced at 17 dollars which I think is very expensive for a burrito that was pretty average at best. My girlfriend got the fence deluxe and found it to be inedible. The bacon was undercooked and just once again not good for 16 dollars. She was very unhappy with her experience too. The food also came out room temperature. I was not impressed and will not be back for brunch. I might give happy hour another try. We'll see.
We dined before a hockey game and service was prompt and food good. Although it was busy, they handled the before-game crowd well. I enjoyed the smoked chicken tacos and my companion liked the turkey roll-ups; there was just the right amount of food for us. Convenient to Verizon Center; good food and drink; well managed; a good place for a quick bite and drink before the game.
The food was great, but the service was a little lagging. Nothing to make me regret going there by any means.
The hamburgers were just ok. I think the patties are pre-made. Not the best burgers we've had, but still pretty decent. The fries are delicious.
Our server was amazing!!!
We were a large group of 12 celebrating a birthday. Without even us having to ask, he separated our checks. Did not make any complaints about multiple credit cards and was patient with our extended time. THANK YOU.
Food was also DELICIOUS.
I've visited Bar Deco several times before Caps games. The menu is appealing, the dining room and roof deck are pleasant, and it's just generally a nice, convenient spot. But good value? Perhaps not so much: $23 chicken and waffles at brunch, one very expensive bloody mary (garnished with bacon, but small, in a martini glass), and $8 sides (all sides: a side of bacon is priced at the same price point as a side of grits..) After a recent pre-game $84 brunch (1 beer, 1 bloody, two entrees, and a side of bacon) I'm going to explore other options.
Overall, a good experience. I would recommend it for a casual date or outing with friends. Burgers and sandwiches seem to be their forte over other items! Servers are fairly casual, management present on the floor. Affordable, decent wines on their wine list.
I've been to bar deco a few times. Last Sunday, I went for the first time for brunch. I was not impressed with the Bloody Mary's or the service. We usually have better service but our server was really to herself and wasn't assertive. Overall, the ambience and food is spot on.
My friend, my boyfriend, and I came here on 1/8/16 for a casual Sunday brunch. The service was terrible. We did not get waited until 15 minutes after we sat down. The food came out and it was a complete let down. For smaller dishes that are $15 and up - it was a complete waste of money. The food was poorly made and the quality was not worth the money paid. My boyfriend ordered pancakes and they were terrible. I don't understand how a restaurant can mess up blueberry pancakes? Overall the food was bad and overpriced. Do not waste your time.
The service was poor, no milk or cream for the coffee, the eggs benedict were hard boiled instead of with a runny yolk, there was hair in the hash browns, and the burrito was cooked wrong. We actually had to talk to the manager and leave and have brunch across the street. The manager was friendly and understanding, but it wasn't enough to make up for poor cooking and service.
Awesome place for cocktails! Great ambiance and excellent food. Loved meeting a group of my friends here for dinner. It's also a great place for a drink before a Caps game. The short rib sandwich is AMAZING.
Food and service were great, the vibe in the restaurant was awesome. We went before a Wizards game and were on a tight schedule, they got our appetizers, entrees and bill to us in under an hour. I highly recommend!
Great Location. Good food. Located behind Verizon Center and close to Gallery Place metro stop, Bar Deco provides a unique dining experience. There's a roof top and main floor bar. Dining occurs on the 2nd floor. The menu seems like a typical bar menu; however many entries have an unusual Bar Deco twist. For example the 901 burger appears looking more like a cupcake with a bread pudding base as bun and cheese and fried egg as frosting. Delicious. The noise level when the 2nd floor bar is full is louder than I appreciate, but otherwise a terrific dining experience.
Excellent food, location and ambiance for what we were looking for. However I did find it strange that we made a "dinner" reservation but were given a high top table in the bar area. Typically not a big deal but the bar is on a completely different floor than restaurant so we didn't even see the dining room. We didn't care that much but the bar was loud and full of some pretty drunk people!
The first impression was awful that we didn't even stay. I made a reservation a week or so ahead of when I needed the table. I was looking forward to trying a new place! When we got there they put as at a high top table, partially behind the bar, because it was the only table available as the rest of the floor had been booked by a private party. It was so loud we couldn't even hear each other talk. So we left. Probably won't ever try there again.
Taco tuesday! Good tasting, but hard to eat--the tortillas were too small for their filling. One of our group order the 901 burger. It should not be called a burger. It is an interesting, bun-less creation with an onion bread pudding pedestal holding a burger topped with lettuce and tomato. Visually impressive, but he said just so-so tasting. Worthwhile enough to try other lunch offerings.
The food and drinks were great. While the server was super polite he disappeared for quite a while and I had to track someone down in order to place another drink order. Overall it was a good experience.
The decor was very nicely done . The food was bland lack total imagination. My dates food came out to the table before mine and it took another 20 min for mine to arrive . We weren't able to even eat at the same time . I got the pork tacos and they were very dried out. I ended up sending my dinner back and asked they just being me a salad. Extremely disappointed . Our waiter was extremely nice the decor was nicely done but the food and timing of service made for a very unpleasant dining experience
Bar Deco is a great spot before a Caps game. The food is very good and the staff is friendly. We shared the steak tacos and the hamburger trio. All were cooked perfectly. The food presentation is always great and everything looks freshly prepared. A lot of attention to details. We ordered the chocolate cake to share and that was just okay- they can find a better recipe.
Visited for Sunday brunch on thanksgiving weekend. Wasn't crowded at all - lots of people probably still on the road. Ordered french deluxe and chile rellano entrees. Both were served quickly and tasted great. Server/bartender was very attentive and provided good suggestions. They also had lots of screens to watch the games which was nice. Great decor, playing soft but upbeat Christmas music in the background. Loved it! Would definitely return.
We celebrated a birthday and we're spoiled by the staff! First time, great place!
6 of us met for brunch before a Saturday Georgetown game. Food took so long to arrive me missed tip-off and mostly everyone's food was ice cold, Our waitress was very nice and the manager was nice and took 40 percent off of the check but everyone in our group agreed that we would never return there.
Not worth the price. Not worth the price. Not worth the price. Not worth the price. Not worth the price. Not worth the price. Not worth the price. Not worth the price. Not worth the price. We have dined at Bar Deco several times before a Washington Capitals game. The food and service has always been consistently very good. I enjoyed the turkey sandwich and my husband liked his steak tacos. Fresh ingredients and presented nicely. Convenient to Verizon and you can have a conversation and not be drowned out by noise.
Great nachos and fried pickles, decent happy hour options, and a good amount of bar seating. Very vibrant atmosphere and great before a show at Verizon Center.
The service was great. And Chelsea, the General Manager, is awesome! She knows her stuff and is not afraid to roll up her sleeves and help out. The atmosphere is great and definitely a hidden gem as far as eating out before a movie or show at Verizon Center. The only slight drawback is the single elevator vs. stairs for a 4-story building.
Bar Deco is a good option before events at Verizon Center -- for me, pre-Caps games. Limited menu but the burgers are great and the nachos are terrific. Nice cocktail menu and a great rooftop bar!
Table was ready when we got there. Ordered the 901 burger. Amazing flavor and not your typical type of burger. Open face and no bun per say. Maybe one of the better burgers I've had. Only complaint was the wait between sitting and getting greeted as well as ordering to food delivery was quite long. Fortunately our concert was right across the street. This is a perfect spot for a pre concert dinner or drinks at Verizon center.
I went here with a group of 7 friends for a nice, Saturday evening outing. The location is right in Penn Quarters, which is very close to an accessible metro station.
The ambiance is amazing -- beautiful antique/rustic feel (but NOT dirty), music loud enough to hear but still very available for conversation, and cute layout (with the multiple levels).
The food was decent. For the price ($15-20 per entree), it was pretty much what I expected. Definitely pure "American" food, with burgers, salads, and nachos very present on the menu. Most of the menu items were pretty standard -- I didn't see anything that was particularly eye-catching or amazing, and the food tasted fine. I wish the food would have been a little more high quality and interesting (instead of just your classic burger or salad).
All that being said, I definitely would come here again. While the food was nothing special, the ambiance, views and relatively inexpensive price makes for a great friends get-together without breaking the bank in D.C.
There are two main areas to this restaurant. The loud bar upstairs and the quieter restaurant downstairs. Both are good, but it is good to know what you are getting into. The cocktails are good and the did is definitely a step up from regular pub fare. The tacos are extremely filling!
Service was awful. When we arrived they sat is at a dirty table. Funny thing is, we were late and the table was till dirty. Our server didn't know much about the menu, or what top shelf liquor they offer. We order three apps only got two. When we finally got the third one, we ended up sending it back. It had a horrible fishy smell. If you know seafood fishy smelling means it's bad! The server had no idea of what to do. Didn't offer an alternative...long story short, we won't be going back...
We went here on Saturday night for a birthday. Server was attentive. Food and drinks came out quickly. Fried avocado salad was very tasty. Fish tacos were just ok. Kale salad seemed a little gritty. Cookie dessert w ice cream was very good. Went to rooftop bar for after dinner drinks. Bar liqueurs were limited. Nice to have blankets for guests! Would come back for apps and drinks in roof.
The food and service were both good but the pricing is a little out of sync with comparable brunch spots in the area.
Services was very good. We were on the second floor and the noise level was way too loud. It was difficult to have a conversation.
The food was yummy but the service was terrible. Specific food orders were forgotten, drinks took forever to arrive, and our table wasn't bused properly. At one point another table our waitress was serving left because the service was so slow. Will definitely return for Happy Hour but not sure about dinner.
My friends and I had dinner at Bar Deco before the Barbra Streisand Concert. We were stuck in traffic and called to change our reservation. We had no trouble doing that. Then we arrived at the restaurant 15 minutes early than expected. We also had no problem with that. We were taken to a table right away. I ordered the pulled pork nachos. They were delicious. I ate that as my meal but it can easily be shared with 5 people. My friends shared the prime rib sandwich which they said was wonderful. They also shared the Fried Trout sandwich which they said was a little fishy. My other friend ordered the Cuban sandwich. I had a taste of that. It was good but I don't like meat that is cut thick and the ham and pork were both very thick slices. My friend liked it a lot. She didn't mind the thick meat slices. Drinks were very good. Service was good. Great location if going to the Verizon center.
