with roasted tomatoes, piment d'Espelette and basil
entrecôte steak with maître d' butter or béarnaise sauce
Diana was great! Thanks for taking great care of us
Good was disgusting. All cold and not very tasty
Lovely, vibrant restaurant, just perfect for our pre theatre dinner. Service was quick, efficient and friendly and our server Diana was great. Would definitely recommend and will be back.
Sloppy service, our server went in a break after taking our order and so we had to reorder. Under cooked steak had to go back. Took 15 mins. Fresh but undercooked fries were bought on request. Fatty fillet steak.
Not coming back in a hurry!
My 2nd visit in 2 weeks: the set up and decor is fin de siecle Parisian Brasseries (Procope et al) but just 7 years old : high ceilings, gold lighting, tin pressed ceilings and huge mirrors. Service is impeccable, warm and old school. Around £15 for mains ( Dinner: we had mac n cheese, mussels, and goujons). Not cheap but good food. A decent prix fixe menu too but I was determined to have raspberry souffle (£17) so,... I may lash out £33 for lobster spaghetti next time. Lunch was French onion soup and cheese souffle: £9.50 each. Noisy when full (lunch), Associated with Balthazar in New York.
Food was very good. A bit noisy but excellent
Had Sunday brunch there. Despite having a reservation, we had to wait 15min until our table was ready. My food (Eggs Royale) arrived cold, one poached egg torn already. The stuff was polite, but they were rushing us to finish our meal, asking to collect our plates despite being half full and us still nibbling. For the place and price, I expected better.
Fantastic! Slightly expensive but the food was great, atmosphere was buzzing on a Saturday night. Super experience.
We have been before and thoroughly enjoyed it, so booked again. This was a real disappointment and we won’t be returning.
The food was poor, served as if no one or nothing mattered. As an example, medium rare steak came medium well and cool to the touch. We did not complain as that tends to ruin the atmosphere at the table but when the plates were cleared and half the steak remained it was quietly mentioned to the server. Nothing was done, pointless asking really. Other dishes were sub par and definitely not worth the money.
We have many other places to choose from and as a result will be avoiding Balthazar’s high price poor food approach and going elsewhere.
So sad to see hospitality delivering so badly when they have been getting the support of customers eager to return.
Food was overpriced, not as shown in pictures on their social media.
Food is below average little disappointing
I appreciate that in these times of covid, and in busy areas, restaurants are trying to make up for lost revenue, but this should not be at the expense of customer service.
I booked a table for an evening meal, and an hour and a quarter into the booking we were told the table was needed for the next customer. We had just put down our cutlery from our main course and had spent £120 for drinks and dinner!
We were never told that we had the table for such a short space of time when we arrived, and just as the restaurant needs to recoup from covid, my friend and I hadn't seen each other in nearly 2 years and were looking forward to a relaxing catch up in a nice environment. Restaurants can't expect to recoup losses at the expense of their customers.
In addition, the restaurant was so busy that although we had both ordered rare steaks, they came cooked through and by the time we could catch the attention of our waiter we'd lost the will to wait and just ate them....not at all what we had requested.
The managers were charming and comped part of the bill, which was very nice of them, but actually we would have been happy to pay the bill and not be rushed. It was the first time I had been in a Central London restaurant since the pandemic started, and what we wanted was a relaxing evening of fun....instead it was a stressful and expensive rush and I can't recommend it, nor will I be returning to a place I used to like and visited often in the past.
Myself, wife and young daughter, only had 50 minutes to eat before a show started as trains were delayed and the traffic was chaos.
Maitre D rushed through the order and food arrived very quick, unfortunately I didn’t get his name.
We were looked after superbly by the wonderful Gemma who made our daughter feel very special.
The food was lovely also.
We will be back very soon and hopefully can spend a little longer and enjoy the whole experience
Great food. Nice ambience. Very helpful staff as I left my scarf behind and they rang me the next day.
Service was excellent. Food all delicious. My favourite is the raspberry soufflé.
I was given the wrong wine (£36 vs £60!)
Soon after meal we were asked to go at bar to finish it (despite a lots of tables were vacant by then !)
We were asked to close the bill ASAP… we wanted another drink but we didn’t feel welcome at all and we left .
Food was good but not amazing, for that price!
Make sure you check your order/bill!
Excellent for a family Sunday lunch. Enthusiastic helpful staff
Everything was just wonderful but the two best parts were the quality of the food and of the service - we can't wait to find an excuse to go back again.
Well done to everyone there especially in these Covid challenged times.
Horrible experience. Bad service. The food used to be good here before. I won't come back for sure. Sorry.
Had a lovely post Christmas lunch with friend - service was great as we weren’t rushed and the food was delicious. Would thoroughly recommend.
The food was fantastic! Table selection not 100 which was a shame as we had booked but happy to eat in the restaurant service very good and they adapted my little girls dish so all happy x
The food was decent after all ! The lady at the reception was very rude ! they offered a table in a small room behind the restaurant and not at the main sitting area ! Even though we refused to sit there ,we had to wait 30 minutes for another table as other people that came after us were already sitting and by the time they offered another table there was last call for orders . When we told her that we didn’t like the initial table and that nobody is sitting in that room she said that if we want we can leave ! Never dealt with such a behaviour in a restaurant in London and I will never go back because of that.
My adult kids and I celebrated New Year’s at Balthazar and wow, it was a grand experience that we all thoroughly enjoyed. We tried starters, specials, main dishes, cocktails, you name it and all were wonderful. Not easy to please two GenZ kids and Balthazar managed to do just that. From the time we arrived we were greeted by friendly staff and the service and attention throughout our time at restaurant was just outstanding. There was great ambience as guests at restaurant were in celebratory mood and the restaurant was busy but efficient.
The star of the show was the raspberry fondue that my daughter ordered. She is so picky with food and never finishes her dishes. At the end of the meal there was no soufflé left over to share with the rest of us, which was really great !
Thank you to Balthazar’s staff for making this evening a memorable one.
When the kids were 4-6 years old we had a similar family meal at the NY location and we experienced the same level of attention and great food. Since then Balthazar became a family favorite but we had never been to the London restaurant.
This is a lovely restaurant and the staff were very nice but no one came to check if I’d like a drink while waiting for the rest of my party to arrive. Then during the meal I had to chase our drinks order on two occasions. It was fine but I won’t rush back.
Very welcoming staff and the food was lovely.
Very busy with not very nice loud music! Food was ok but nothing special! I ordered mussels which more than half of them were empty !
It’s the third time I have visited in the past few months and sadly there were a few mistakes with the order. It was quick though and food was as expected bjt starters arrived with the main so we had to send them back and a few things were missed off the original order. All corrected quickly and without fuss so well
Pre theatre dinner, great food service and ambiance. All about the location….for which of course you pay a premium that otherwise wouldn’t be justified
Excellent once again my go to restaurant when visiting London.
Good portions but I'm afraid our mains and side dishes we're cold.
We ordered mussles and normally they would come with a lid.
These didn't and the warmish mussles we're at the bottom, sauce also was watered down.
The best part of our visit to Balthazar was the service. Having found hospitality severally lacking recent our experience was a true breath of fresh air. The female server was absolutely excellent, fantastic with both our 4 small children and is adults. When I return I hope she’s my server again.
My first time at Balthazar and i have to say the venue and the food exceeded my expectations. Fabulous atmosphere, great food, superb service. Best rasberry souffle dessert i've ever had ! Really enjoyed everything about it. Will definitely be back in the near future.
Can’t recommend enough
Poor service - not attentive (eg starter plates missing, cutlery missing). Overcooked steak
All good it’s very good for one time in London
Very nice restaurant
Quality of the food was fantastic as always. Buzzy and busy despite covid. Although is on the pricey side would always return and recommend
Poor service, lack of interest, dirty wine glass.Very disappointed as always has been my daughter and I favourite London restaurant for past 15 years, sad.
Food and service excellent. Great restaurant for families.
Food was really nice, and about right for this price point (I recommend the cheese souffle and the duck/beef pie).
The service was lacking, however, and felt pretty inattentive to both my table and those around me, with long waits between finishing a dish and it being collected. This could be a Christmas/COVID issue, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.
The restaurant is very elegant and romantic. My friend and I really enjoyed the food and the desserts. The service was a bit disappointing, the stuff wasn’t rude but it felt like they were on a constant rush, just slamming the plate on the table and quickly leaving. But the aesthetic and ambience of the place made up for it. Definitely going back.
