   We had a lovely time at Baltazar on Monday evening. The food, drinks and service were excellent. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this great restaurant to anyone who enjoys delicious French cuisine. With thanks!

   Although reasonably priced and with decent service, the thing that needs to shine in a restaurant is the food and unfortunately, I found that lacking. The snails (which don't even come with bread) needed garlic and more herbs. The baked camenbert was okay if you enjoy that rind ammonia flavor which was quite prevalent. The seafood in the vol au vent was chewy and again, the sauce didn't have much flavor. The central puff pastry was dense, not light and fluffy. Lastly, the house chablis had none of the characteristics you'd typically expect to find in a chablis.

   Usually enjoy Balthasar but on this occasion we’d set aside 1.5 hours for lunch. Service was so slow that after twice having to walk over to ask the waiter to come we ran out of time, ate two courses but had to cancel the coffee we’d ordered 15 minutes earlier or we’d’ve been late. Staff generally professional and good humoured. Perhaps there just aren’t enough on a Sunday

   I've been meaning to try Balthazar for a while now. My wife had a fantastic croc monsieur and I had the breakfast burger with Hollandaise sauce. My wife's croc was great, however my burger was underwhelming. The pork patty was a little chewy and the egg was a little lost in all that meat and rather heavy bun. It could have been done much better and with a little more finesse. Oh, and my fries were rather lukewarm. Maybe I'll choose something else next time.

   Definitely ask for a booth if more than 4 of you. We were 5 and on a tiny table in the middle of the room, which initially I wasn’t that happy about but actually as we are a family we loved being cosy. The table was actually too small for all the things we ordered but again we managed. The atmosphere was amazing and as we are all quite loud I am sure that we slightly dominated the surrounding tables which were very close. But our three grown up children didn’t seem to worry and nor did we. The service was excellent and we had a couple of charming waiters who were definitely on the ball but clearly were frantic all night as they ran around the restaurant non stop. this gave a buzzy feel about the restaurant which we loved. The food was delicious - although my daughter had the beetroot carpaccio (which we all tried) and the horseradish blows your mouth off - we loved it but maybe too hot for some. Steak tartare is the best at any restaurant I think as is the steak frites, sole goujons, crème brûlée, oh all of the food is delicious. Rose wine - again - delicious and lots consumed. We had a great evening. Thought the price for 5 hungry adults was ok actually for London. It’s great value all round - food, wine, service and atmosphere. It’s one of our favourite restaurants and having got there at 6.30 we stayed until 11 - so shows you how much we loved the eve. Than you

   Balthazar. The best. Signs in French and ceiling fans like in the Deep South. It's a New Orleans experience without calling itself one. All that but it's in Covent Garden.

    I had the pre theatre menu, the mozzarella salad was average along with the mussels and chips. Lovely venue and staff attentive.
