Permanently Closed - Escape the madness of the City with a meal and a drink at Balls Brothers of Carey Lane, another fine restaurant and bar from the Balls Brothers brand serving the best to the most discerning of Londoners. Comfortably timeless in its interior design, Balls Brothers of Carey Lane provides a truly relaxed atmosphere while still feeling, somehow, as if it really is at the centre of things – which, being mere seconds from St Paul’s Cathedral and Cheapside, is exactly what it is. While tables can be reserved in the bar, simply for enjoying a drink and light bite after work or for buttering up a potential business partner with a fine wine from the extensive Balls Brothers cellar, in the dining room things are a little more formal and the menu a little heartier. Classically British, lunches and dinners alike here at Balls Brothers provide a taste of tradition with a sprinkling of favourite international flavours, some excellent sharing platters and very affordable nibbles

    Turned up with a client for a prebooked lunch to be told that there was a private function on. Given time of year struggled to find an alternative. Told that management would phone to apologise but still waiting

    very poor service, waiter seemed bothered by our presence, rather rude. the room smells really bad. It was chilly, they had a small blowing heather to heat the room. Poor experience all around.

    Balls Bros, Carey Lane does pretty much exactly what you'd expect it to. Nothing fancy, just decent, hearty, properly cooked fare with, obviously, an extensive wine list to go with it. Last time I was at this restaurant, the service was poor (very busy with insufficient staff on duty). This time, it was much better. All in all, a very pleasant, relaxed lunch.

    It was the week before Christmas, so the place was very busy, but service was poor. Friendly, but poor with insufficient staff numbers leading to wrong orders being processed and slow delivery. Food was absolutely fine, however. The run up to Christmas isn't usually a fair test but with no previous visits to compare to, I can only speak as I find on this occasion. Would I give it another go? Absolutely.

    I booked a table online through top table and a few hours later received a call from Balls Brothers to say they aren't open on a Saturday night. Booking cancelled. A very useful website!

    Very enjoyable evening and meal. Helpful and attentive - but not intrusive - staff. The wine flight/boards combination was excellent value and certainly filling. Ambience was a bit flat but then the place was nearly empty by the time we were there. A shame as this venue has a lot to offer.
