For more than 20 years the Baldpate's dining room was rated as a 5-star Duncan Hines restaurant. Today our specialty buffet continues to bring highest honors as we provide an unparalleled dining experience. Although we do not offer traditional entrees, we are loved for our fresh salad buffet, homemade soups, breads, and pies. Not only locals, but travelers especially delight in the refreshing change and value that our soup and salad menu offers. Seating in our sunporch dining room offers the bonus of an unequaled treetop view of the mountain valley.
Reservations are always recommended
We return every year. The location, ambiance & food are worth it! It is the lunch for which we return. REALLY important to reserve - several were turned away when we were there in late September.
Nothing special, nice old house converted into cafe and inn. Food average, prices high for what you get.
Good soups and nice salad bar. No other options for dining. Great homemade rhubarb pie.
The people I was meeting were 45 minutes late for our reservation, but the gentleman at the front desk was very kind, and was able to accommodate us. We had a lovely lunch. Kudos to your wonderful staff member.
Definitely about the view and the Key Museum. The salad bar needs more variety.
We were a bit early but after opening time at 11:30 AM, they were not ready, Chili soup was cold, the pumpkin soup Luke warm, the salad bar was set up but the muffins and especially their famous cornbread were cold.
Must have had a bad day because we have been there numerous times for lunch and always right on.
This was definitely the worst restaurant I have experienced in years... The hummingbirds were the highlight of the evening. The food was terrible- period. Nothing more to say than that.
I love going there every summer. Staff is so friendly, soup and salad just right for summer day. I also love the the tasty cornbread
Always recommend going!
This is a delightful old charming inn with wonderful home made baked goods-bread, muffins, corn bread (delicious!!!), and a soup of the day and a chili. The salad is always fresh and has been the same for the last 20 years that we have had the opportunity to enjoy this unique inn. The pies are great!
I love the ambiance inside the dining room, and especially love the patio with views of Rocky Mt Natl Park and hummingbirds.
What a treasure! I do not understand the bad reviews.
Good luck Bald Pate... I hope you can stay open forever!
We make a point of stopping at the Baldpate every vacation! The experience of having lunch in a beautiful historic Inn is wonderful! We love our server and recommend him for the future.
The food and service were excellent as always!!!!!
Waiter never refilled our water or tea, very poor service
It was a nice soup and salad experience. We loved visiting the porch and key room and remembering the many years in the past when we came here. There were very very few people there. It will be interesting to see what becomes of the place. The manager was extremely friendly and nice.
The salad bar was very good, and the soups and breads were wonderful. However, both the pecan pie and chocolate pie were flavorless, and we actually threw them away.
We were on a Saturday outing from Denver area to Estes Park. We saw a wine menu but no buffet price or menu for other food choices. We enjoyed the soup & salad bar. Fresh and good. We purchased a bottle of wine, thinking we could have 2 glasses & cork it, put it in a secured paper sack & take the rest home. However when we asked for the cork & take with, the server had to check with the manager. The answer was due to insurance, they could not allow us to take it with us! I think Colorado law allows one to do this& we said that. No go! The check was over $100 & way out of line for a simple soup & salad & a $30 bottle of wine, only half used! Won”t be back. On way out we also noticed a sign stating Inn is for sale! Hmmm!
About a dozen flies buzzed on the windows by our table. The salad/soup bar is self serve and our waitress only brought our drink, but never came back to check on us (refill drinks or clear finished dishes). We sat awhile and finally had to ask for our ticket. We’ve eaten here several times when we visit the area, because it used to have a really unique ambiance. Probably won’t go back again.
Have been to the Baldpate several times on trips to RMNP and loved the soup and salad luncheon. However was disappointed this time and felt like this historic old relic had sunk.
We have dined at the Baldpate Inn many times over the last 20 years. As former restaurant owners, we know that today it is harder to hire competent help, tolerate today's customers, and make a profit. Unfortunately, we seem to have witnessed this at our last visit. The wait staff doesn't understand that all you sell is service and an enjoyable experience. The waiter only came to our table once to ask if we needed anything and did not offer us dessert. All restaurants sell food. Owners are responsible for hiring and teaching service. We also did not enjoy a patron next to us with a dog in a baby stroller. This should be against health regulations. Some folks are also allergic to animals.
The food was not up to the quality and standard in the past. Many food items were empty and not replenished until we made our first trip to the salad bar. There were fewer offerings than in the past. Perhaps part of the explanation is that the inn is for sale and no one cares much anymore. That is a shame, as we came a long way (from Michigan) to vacation in Estes and said we really need to return to the Baldpate Inn for a meal. This will be our last trip.
Dining at Bald Pate is always a wonderful experience we enjoy when we travel here in the summer.
Great old photos and key museum. Soups and breads and muffins are superb.
I took my elderly parents for Fsther’s Dsy lunch, and they both enjoyed it very much! Their comment about the dining room was that it felt like they were in a treehouse - the view was so great! We all liked the food and looking around the inn at the old photographs and the keys. They want to visit again.
I was meeting a friend from out of town and thought The Baldpate would be a unique experience. We have been there many times and knew the menu is comprised of soup, salad, bread, and pie. The food was good, however, I felt it was rather expensive for the selections offered. But my only real complaint is that even though we were the only patrons in the entire restaurant—another couple did come in shortly before we left. The enclosed sun porch was completely empty, yet we were given a table in the interior dining room. My husband had decided to join us at the last moment which apparently threw a ringer into the reservation. Would it have been so difficult to place an additional chair at a table for two (my husband came late and didn't even eat) or simply put us at a table for four? Having said all of that, our guest still enjoyed the setting, the Key Room and we did have a great time. However, the experience would have been even more memorable had staff taken the time and made the effort to seat us on the porch overlooking the beautiful landscape.
We visit the Baldpate for good food, a touch of the old west, a quiet afternoon in the Colorado mountains, with loads of hummingbirds. It never disappoints.
I have been to the Baldpate Inn several times and introduced it to friends. It is a wonderful place with a great location and atmosphere.
We love the Baldpate and make a point to eat there every time we are in Estes Park. The beef stew is amazing!
Always great food, service and views
Yes, I loved it. The soup (pumpkin) was magic and the salads were lovely. The atmosphere was great; and the views. And as we left, a kind member of staff told us all about the key collection. We'll recommend it to friends and come again if we're in Estes Park again. Thank you.
Soup and salad was too expensive. But the inn itself was really neat. And the views were great!
This is a great one-of-a-kind restaurant/inn with lots of history and great views.
The hype exceeded by far the product. The selection of salads was limited. The spinach was as if came from a bag of day old from the grocery. The tortellini was so so. The cheese cubes were cut well but the crackers were stale. The cowboy stew had a good flavor but the meat was way too chewy. The price was far too much for the small number of mundane choices. The bread products were good, but when we chose the one remaining cinnamon roll it was not replaced 30 monutes later when we left. I planned on having a piece of pie for dessert, but it was $7.50 extra. Yep, you read that correctly, $7.50 extra for dessert at an all you can eat buffet.
I love this place for its great views, unique and historic building, good food and friendly service.
Fantastic view and ambiance, but we miss the hummingbirds. Very overpriced as you only get a salad bar. We were the at lunch time.
We enjoyed our visit. It was a return from 1980. We were hoping the food would be better, but we are certainly pleased we came by.
Such a cool place. Food was great. You pay for the atmosphere. We loved it however.
Historical, Colorado mountain restaurant. Loved the history, theme, beautiful view and experience. Staff was attentive and very friendly. And soups, salad and dessert tasted deliciously Home-made. Wine list was limited.
Salad bar was mediocre; not many vegetable choices. Both soups-of-the-day were tepid when they should have been hot for best flavor. Overall we expected better quality, based on recommendations from locals. Our server was excellent; attentive and very polite.
This is a soup and salad place in an old-fashioned surrounding. The soups and salads are original. Homemade breads and muffins are included. This is an ideal place for some light eating although do serve drinks and dessert a la carte. I am a local and like taking guests for a uniques experience.
Worst Experience I have ever had at a restaurant. This place is not worth the time or the drive.
What an interesting place! This old B&B is an adventure to get to and a quirky little place once you arrive. The history of this place is amazing... the decor is a great story and the menu is simple... Soup & Salad only!!! If you are in Estes it’s worth checking out.
