We had a bottle of wine and four small plates that were average at best. Very average service other than the reception which was terrific both entering and leaving.
The venue was very nice, upscale casual. I enjoy most food I am served very much so I was a bit disappointed. The tomato soup was generous but not special. We split a ribeye and my portion was almost 1/2 gristle and fat. My spouse had a generous portion of fat as well. If we’d been more hungry we would have sent it back. Also almost everything on the plate was overly garlic - and we like garlic. So just a so-so meal for the price.
The food was delicious and the customer service was among the best!
The service was way late. We ordered 3 sea bass dish but they cooked only two . We were eating for a long time so we said we don’t need it anymore.
All Dinahes we ordered were NOT tasty. Not good food and expensive. We all were very unhappy.
Visited Avalon this past weekend and went to Avalon Grille 3 times. Dinner, cocktails and Sunday afternoon light bite. DeWitt the manager is present and interested in your experience and Javier was the best bartender ever. He is the type of individual that makes you want to keep coming back to the restaurant and the island. Excellent experience and will keep coming back
Our group of 5 ladies were greeted and seated earlier than our reservation which was unexpected but welcoming. We had the daily soup and split dinners. The food was great and the server was attentive. Will go back when in Catalina again.
Everything was perfect except for the table of four elderly loud talkers who sat in the back nook of the restaurant next to us. We may as well have joined them (except they were obnoxious) since we were forced to hear every word of their conversation. It had a negative impact on our experience.
Roberto was our waiter - always smiling and accommodating. From the delicious Pinot Noir and hot buttered & gently truffled popcorn to the chicken for two (like a Sunday supper - much needed after a week’s vacation of poor food choices) and coconut pie for dessert, we loved every bite.
Great. Food was good and staff was attentive and very friendly.
Absolutely fantastic location in Avalon! Excellent menu and superb preparation and presentation. Cannot miss when you go to the Avalon Grille. (Also extremely attractive dining room in the sometimes "authentic" small seaside wonder of Avalon/Catalina Island!)
Very romantic great service good people and good vibes great food most of all our server was excellent
On the pricy side...especially wine! yikes.
Food, tasty; Ambience, service delightful.
My sister in law just got married. I will preface this with the fact that our food was delicious, but the service was awful. We tried to surprise our new bride and groom to a table ready for wine and a charcuterie board and they didn’t even acknowledge our reservation. We had planned to have a board ready upon arrival and some bubbly. They disregarded our reservation completely, and sent me an email saying we didn’t show up for our open table reservation even though we were very much present and spent several hundred dollars on dinner. They never brought any of that. We proceeded to receive shorty service from our server and brought a bottle of wine. We asked for our bottle of wine to be opened before entrees to breathe and then didn’t receive wine glasses until after we were done with our entrees, we had to ask the manger after the server said she was on the way with them three times. We then were never acknowledged that there was a special occasion until the 1x1 inch dessert we received that we couldn’t even share. We called and spoke to the manager who heard us and tried to offer us tours of the island the next day, however, we were leaving. Nothing was done to supplement the mistakes other then that. We nor anyone in our family or network or people will be back. I really appreciate the warm welcome your restaurant had to offer thank you...
Great service by our waitress from New Zealand. Sorry forgot her name. The reservation was requested with a view by the window; initially the host lead us to a regular table behind the bar facing the street. I had to request for the window table facing the ocean...there were plenty of available tables as it was a week night. The flash fried beans are delish and so was the octopus. The pasta I had was very bland but my husband’s steak was very tender and juicy. The desserts are ok- the coconut was very tangy... not what we expected but the peach was nice.
Great Food... Great Service.... Great atmosphere.... Highly recommend
One of the best spots on Catalina. The Chateau for 2 was amazing
This is a beautiful restaurant. The bar is top notch, the drinks and the bartender also great! However, like a lot of the restaurants on Avalon, the prices are high. I ordered a 28 day dry aged New York strip for $59. It sounded amazing. Probably the biggest disappointment I’ve ever experienced. The steak was horrible. I took one bite and sent it back. The manager agreed! He actually tasted himself he said. He offered me something else and took it off the bill. I didn’t reorder. My disappointment ruined my appetite.
The furnishings and decor are outstanding; the owners/designers cut no corners. Very classy, upscale with incredible location and view. Only complaint is that our food took a very long time to cook and be served. Expensive, but worth it if special occasion.
Normally we like this place. But this time the service was so low. We had 3 tables sit after us and all got there food before us. Our order was simple with no special specifications. It was just that poor. The manager never came or apologized. The food was fine but the quality of service diminished the place.
The location could not be better. Sitting in the outdoor area looking out at the ocean and the lively scene on the water front - it is lovely. The service is friendly, and the food is good. We felt it was overpriced. I guess you pay for the ambience? One point to note: this is the only restaurant in Avalon that is on open table - and all the restaurants in town get busy on a Saturday evening in the summer. If you are on the island for a celebration it might be worth making the booking just to be certain you have a place to eat!
We come here every time that we are in Catalina now. We've tried many of the appetizers, all of which are just okay. Our least favorite dish here was the California Peach Salad... it was pretty terrible. Reading the menu description, it sounds like the best salad you could have! But the execution was poor. There was barely anything except the lettuce... However, the reason that we keep coming back is for the steak. We always keep coming back to a steak on the "Choose Your Prime Cut" section of the menu. The past few times, we've done the New York Strip. The steak is always cooked to perfect & the cut is delicious. The sides are great & it comes with plenty of food. Not to mention, the two sauces that it comes with are always battling for which is the best. We'll be back again soon!
The octopus appetizer was one of the best appetizers we've ever had! We then split the grilled peach salad, my husband had the squid ink linguine with lobster and scallops, I had the black cod. All dishes were very well prepared, with unique ingredients.
Great location, atmosphere, food and service (Roberto was fabulous)
Service is on "island time" (like the rest of Catalina) so expect to linger for a bit. Food was excellent, seafood very fresh.
Menu is very limited but what they do have is good and good value, great location
Truly the best fine dining experience on the Island. Wonderful menu items prepared to perfection.
Marcela was incredible and made our special evening even more memorable. We will be back again soon!
Great food and service, would highly recommend and look forward to return visits!
I took my wife for her birthday. This location has a phenomenal chef and outstanding service. It greatly surpassed my expectations. I will return and worth a trip to Catalina.
Our server from New Zealand was outstanding. However, my Hanger steak was inedible due to the huge chunks of fat. I reluctantly sent it back, which I seldom do. I got a Sea Bass instead but it was dry and a little chewy, so it must have been frozen I guess. They credited the cheaper Hanger Steak and charged me for the Sea Bass. It was a little disappointing as the restaurant looks very nice.
Anniversary dinner. Food was excellent as well as the service.
Food was great and service was great. Waitress was very nice.
We went in for an early dinner and were seated with a wonderful view of the harbor. The atmosphere is casual and beachy but elegant. Our waiter Chris was super friendly and recommended the fresh local-caught swordfish, which was amazing. My wife had the burger, also really tasty. Overall just a great place for a relaxing dinner, I highly recommend it.
The food was amazing! So flavorful its like they took their time to make sure every detail was perfect. We had dinner on thursday and was so impress we came back for brunch friday its a ten out of ten.
The food was good but they should add more variety of food besides what they have
Nice location in heart of Avalon, very breezy- think Tommy bahama feeeling, menu is creative and tasty unfortunately the talent pool for high ending dining is very small so the servers are trying but coming up short.
Nice looking restaurant however our filet was so over cooked it was grey among other issues. Surrounding tables has the same issues as well. Hopefully they get it figured out
Beautiful restaurant, Great view of the ocean, and tasty options!
Great friendly service great atmosphere our service person was so helpful
Really great, friendly service.
The service was fantastic on the Friday night we went there. EVERYONE checking on us to make sure we were taken care of. The food (whole chicken), and cocktails (Wrigley Martini and Espresso Martini), were excellent. We ended up going back for another Wrigley Martini late night Saturday and they had a DJ going (played good music but had a woofer that was crackling which as an aficionado was like nails on a chalkboard), and Sunday for Brunch. All great. Best restaurant we tried on the island.
