Nice location in heart of Avalon, very breezy- think Tommy bahama feeeling, menu is creative and tasty unfortunately the talent pool for high ending dining is very small so the servers are trying but coming up short.
Nice looking restaurant however our filet was so over cooked it was grey among other issues. Surrounding tables has the same issues as well. Hopefully they get it figured out
Beautiful restaurant, Great view of the ocean, and tasty options!
Great friendly service great atmosphere our service person was so helpful
Really great, friendly service.
The service was fantastic on the Friday night we went there. EVERYONE checking on us to make sure we were taken care of. The food (whole chicken), and cocktails (Wrigley Martini and Espresso Martini), were excellent. We ended up going back for another Wrigley Martini late night Saturday and they had a DJ going (played good music but had a woofer that was crackling which as an aficionado was like nails on a chalkboard), and Sunday for Brunch. All great. Best restaurant we tried on the island.
The food was absolutely delicious. The atmosphere was very inviting.
Very nice place next to the bay/beach. Great food and great staff! Best in Catalina Island!
Best food, service and atmosphere in Avalon. Octopus was tender, steak was delicious. I will say, have them dress, chop and toss your ceasar!
Went to Catalina for a birthday get away. When I made the reservation I said we were celebrating a birthday. When we were greeted at the front desk the hostess did not say anything about celebrating a birthday. When the server came over she never said anything about the birthday throughout the evening we were there for over two hours and she said nothing about my birthday nor did she bring out a special birthday Desert. She was an excellent server but it would’ve been nice to have acknowledged my birthday or a birthday dessert.
Food and service were both very good. However, we were dining for our anniversary, which I included on the reservation, and it was never mentioned or brought up. Kind of disappointing, but overall a good meal. And the patio was great for people watching.
I have been here several times before. It was another great meal. The service was good and the food was wonderful. The only thing we did not like was the popcorn they serve instead of bread and butter when you are seated. It tasted stale and some of it was burnt. Except for that we had a great meal. We will be back.
We had to wait a long time to be served. The halibut was over cooked. Nice location, but over worked staff. They tried hard, but too much work.
- we had brunch and dinner there every day for 5 days - that tells you it must be great!!
We had a delicious dinner with excellent and friendly service. Great food in a beautiful setting. We will definitely be back on our next trip to Catalina!
My birthday dinner with my husband 😊 food was good and service was great! Thank you.
Overall it was a very good experience. The one vegetarian dish on the menu needs some improvement, but we were happy that there was a V option and know they are working on perfecting it.
The food was excellent, particularly the Chateaubriand and Octopus; both very tender. Service was fair. The restaurant was quite busy so our server was unable to be very attentive. Still I would return. Wonderful harbor-front open-air atmosphere.
Very nice place. Looks to be new and modern. Stands out as the most modern restaurant in catalina. Does not have that catalina charm more like a newport beach place. All in all very nice.
Four for dinner. We ordered wine with appetizers, lettuce wedge salad and a skirt steak. The appetizers were good, lettuce wedge salad was very small and the skirt steak was horrible - the worst tasting steak I have ever had. We all had skirt steak and after one bit we had a horrible after taste in our mouth. We complained to our waiter who took it off the bill. I happen to see the manager and complained to him as well. I was sick to my stomach the next morning. A restaurant and shift manager need to know when serving spoiled / rancid food. The music that started at 10:00pm was terrible as well. We sat near the DJ and saw lots of young people come into the restaurant. As soon as he starting playing the crowd departed. How about a DJ that sings vocals and plays top tunes. The waiter and host and hostess were very friendly.
Good Luck on the island. We are there a few times a month.
Excellent service and amazing food! Well worth it and underrated by others.
Excellent food and service. We found Robin very engaging and helpful
Vacation to Catalina
We had a great time. Sean the bartender was the best.
Expensive restaurant but the food is not that good.
Mixed results. Overall, pretty disappointing for our group of four. The Avalon Grille is a lovely restaurant with a good wine list. Our service was great. The brussel sprouts were delicious (although a small portion) and the fried octopus was perhaps the best I've had. But the rest of the food was not good. Each of us ordered seafood. I was surprised that all the fish ordered (except octopus) was over-cooked. The halibut was horribly dry. The seabass was only slightly better. The sides that came with the entrees were bland. We were there for a birthday dinner and did get a nice dessert on the house. I would not go back for a meal--maybe just a glass of wine and appetizer.
Ordered the seabass and the halibut. Seabass was good, halibut was unfortunately overcooked. Service was ok but not attentive and non-responsive to questions and concerns. For the premium prices I expect premium experiences.
Beautiful spot to take in views of Avalon and enjoy a delicious meal. Great wine, meat and cheese board had good variety and we loved the filet with side of crunchy Brussels sprouts. We will return for sure!
Service, Food and Setting are 5 Star
3 in our party thought food and service was average.
We were there for a birthday celebration weekend. Food was good but not hot. Caeser salad was horrifically fishy and warm. Its disappointing when a Salad is not chilled and crunchy;(
The grilled peach salad was more like mushed peaches salad. Even though it was ordered without goat cheese there were still crumbles of goat cheese in it. The kids Mac and cheese had half of the pasta underdone, nearly raw. The server was helpful in trying to remedy it and the location is perfect. Perhaps it’s a better spot for a drink, as the Kitchen seems to be sorely lacking.
Excellent service, staff was very prompt and friendly. The scallops and chateau briand were cooked perfectly, with amazing presentation. Overall great experience!! Thank you!
Excellent service. Excellent selection. Food was perfect. 5 stars.
Stopped in for a drink at the bar our first evening on Avalon. Bartenders were great. Javier promised the best lemon drop... he was spot on! Very fun vibe, great location!
Dinner the next night was superb! Fresh, flavorful, perfectly cooked and delicious. The wait staff is well educated and friendly... nice casual and relaxed vibe! We highly recommend Avalon Grill anytime of day! Can’t wait to go back!
Best Bloody Mary on the Island! Great brunch menu! Excellent wait staff!
Excellent view, very accommodating along with superb food!
Locations is great. People were nice and accommodating. I ordered a filet mignon medium rare and it was stone cold when it came to my table. When it arrived the waitress said, 'carful the plate is hot'. Unfortunately I wasn't planning to eat the plate. I noticed that the table next to us also sent their steak back because it was cold to the touch. Everything else on the plate was hot. I can't fathom how a steak could be served that cold, especially when paying $40 for it. They did make it right, but clearly they had a problem that evening.
The food and service was great! Love the interior setting, will be back there again. Best restaurant in Avalon!
This was a our second time trying Avalon Grille. We were disappointed the first time, and the second time wasn't much better. It appears as an upscale restaurant. However, the food quality leaves much to be desired. On this occasion, the Calamari, although seasoned well, was tough and tasted like eating paper. I ordered the Sea Bass as the main entrée, and much of it was severely undercooked, almost as if it has been frozen when it was cooked. My wife ordered the filet mignon, and it was also undercooked, even though she ordered it medium well. The waitress was accommodating in not charging me for the Sea Bass, and dessert was good, but would have expected better food for the prices we would have paid, if we had to pay for everything.
