Roberto the waiter ~ excellent service and fun!
Food was very good but pricey. Open air so may deal with flies. Tables surround the bar so noise is possible.
This is a beautiful place to dine and the food as well as service was top notch! Great views and happy hour.
Birthday dinner. Service was very good. The food was not particularly inspired or tastefully prepared. We would try it again because it may have been our chosen dishes
The service was great from the moment we stepped foot in the door. Our server was extremely polite and knowledgeable of the food offerings. We decide to eat here for an anniversary and was a great outcome, highly recommended.
When in Avalon this is your must visit restaurant. The menu is inventive and well prepared and the decor makes for a place you want linger.
Had a large group booked for a birthday party. The waitress was gracious enough to split our party into different checks. Super helpful!
amazing dinner! the hostess was awesome - she asked us if we wouldn't mind being patient, that she could get us a table with a water view! sooooo worth the wait! and because it took longer than she expected, she gave us a free dessert too. Roberto our waiter was fabulous as well! i'm just said that because we live in Texas, we can't just pop in for another meal. Thanks for helping make our visit to Catalina Island special!
We had a grilled octopus appetizer and 2 items from the 1929 "retro menu" and a coffee cocktail for dessert - Delicious and fun! Service was friendly and efficient. We were there @5, it was quiet but not "dead". An entirely pleasant experience and reasonably priced, too.
The pork chops with apple and Brussels Sprouts were amazing. The drink menu was diverse. The deserts were divine!!!
This is the best restaurant in Avalon, in my opinion. We had the octopus appetizer which was flavorful and not chewy. Scallops and Sea Bass main dishes were well prepared and delightfully presented. Service and ambiance was excellent.
I ordered the scallops and they were very good. My husband ordered the wagyu burger that he said was “ok” It was our anniversary and they were very good to us and treated us well. One of the perks of this restaurant is the delicious popcorn that if you ask for then they will bring. It was the best popcorn I have ever eaten.
I had high expectations for this restaurant. It was advertised at Descanso Beach therefore we were under the impression that it must be good. I order the Pacific Seabass a $36 dish and my husband got the octopus from the appetizer menu. Waited a significant amount of time for those two dishes in the meantime two older couples showed up much later than us, got the royal treatment because they ordered a bottle I guess and on top of that somehow they ordered appetizers which came in quickly and so did their meal. It would've been good if the food made up for that BUT no. Although the veggies in the plate were fresh I was left with a ripped off feeling with a heavy taste of disappointment. I should've not ignored those bad reviews, they were right. Completely overprice for what they're offering
The best food and drinks. But most of all the service was Great. Thank you for making our vacation the greatest.
Your reservation is irrelevant. We made a reservation for outside seating, but upon arrival, the restaurant had filled the outdoor section, including a number of folks who clearly had just been seating (and also a 4 top with only 2 people and a high chair at it). Food is ok but not great. Definitely not worth the prices given the number of other cute restaurants all along the waterfront in Avalon.
Had a great meal at the Grille. Travis did a good job and the steak was tender and juicy.
Went for a morning brunch with our family. Decided to sit inside, because it was a bit cool in the shade with the breeze. They had the windows open facing the harbor, so we might as well have been sitting outside. It was pretty cool and we were all a bit uncomfortable. The service was nothing spectacular. It took a very long time to bring out our food and when they did they just brought my meal, and then a few minutes later brought the rest of the tables food. Why not just bring it all at once? It's not like the meals were intended to be shared like tappas or something. Then a party of 6-8 people sat behind us and began to talk loudly about their late night drinking and dropping F bombs clearly enough for our 2 year old and 5 year old to hear, and certainly anyone else inside the restaurant. No one from management asked them to quiet down or offered to move us or them so we were stuck listening to their trash while trying to keep our children busy. It was a miserable brunch. I don't think I would return.
Went there for an anniversary dinner with my girlfriend and eberything from the food to the service was amazing! Would highly recommend and will definitely go back.
We had to wait for a long time after our reservation. The food was all right, not great, not bad. We ordered a glass of merlot that was horrible. They let us change it, but the $17 glass of cabernet was also undrinkable. Other than the long wait for the table, the service was all right. For the money, there are better places nearby.
Travis was the best. The food was immaculate all the way from the starter popcorn. I would recommend dining here first and last if you come to Avalon.
The staff made our anniversary dinner very special. We received a champagne toast and wonderful dessert. The food was excellent and the corkage fee on our wine was reasonable. Highly recommend.
Best place to dine in Avalon, Catalina.
My wife and I experienced a very high quality of food and service. We enjoyed our meal so much that we returned the following night. On the first night we shared the two person chateaubriand which our waitress helpfully pointed out would have a nice share of medium rareish for me along with the medium that my wife desired as it is a thick cut of meat. We saw a server carry a carrot cake by our table and ordered that without looking at the dessert menu as it looked beautiful. Our server, Jessica, kindly brought us one even though it was generally reserved for special occasions only (without guilting us with this information until the delicious cake was gobbled up). Jessica made it a special occasion for us!
Amazing meal and great service. I know Steve’s Steakhouse has been rated number 1 for 25 years but I think that might be more about Steve as a person and his contributions to Avalon and less about the food. His food is great but Avalon Grill takes it to a whole new level. Scallops perfectly cooked and my Filet could not have been better. This is a must.
The food, service and atmosphere was excellent. The wait staff was very attentive and pleasant
It's unfortunate when a server ruins the entire evening. At a high end restaurant, the wait staff should be equal to the location. I came here to be treated to a 60th birthday. It was my husband and I so we weren't even a large party. Bad taste. Boo.
Delicious food, wonderful service, outdoor patio beautiful. Val our waitress was excellent. Celebrating our 40th Anniversary and received complimentary champagne and dessert! The Chateau Briande was exceptional!
Great location. We were repeat customers looking forward to fixed Easter Tapas PRE fixed menu again, unfortunately they did not continue this year 😩
Higher end restaurant in Avalon, probably the only one on the island. Our experience was marred by the slow drinks service and by terrible smell of golf cart or boat fuel halfway through our meal. The food was okay. I was disappointed by the salmon - soggy green beans and Napa cabbage; fish was bland, not enough misoyaki glaze; there were no mushrooms. The other dish was hanger steak which was good. For dessert I ordered bread pudding with gelato and caramel sauce. It was the smallest bread pudding in the world. For $10 I was not impressed. The only reason this place is always full is that there simply aren't any good restaurants on Catalina. Not the end of the world.
My S O and I were on Catalina for 3 nights to celebrate my birthday. I chose to dine here on my actual birthday since it looked nice when we walked by and got good reviews. First, the ambiance is lovely. After dark, it looks glamorous and clubby with low lighting. We were seated at a booth where both of us could look into the room. Our waiter was Julian who introduced himself and took our drink orders. As we sipped our delicious West Coast Manhattans, we perused the menu. The menu seemed a little short and we were each having a hard time deciding. I finally decided on a burger which is out of character since I rarely eat them but it looked the best to me. Sig other was happy to have me order it with fries rather than side salad so he could eat them with the poke he ordered. I asked for the burger to be medium but it was cooked to well. The accompaniments of tomato, iceberg lettuce, onion and kosher dill were purely standard; I would have expected a little more flair. Throughout the evening, our waiter was very patient since we took awhile to order. He brought pretty burgundy glasses for the Pinot noir we ordered and did a good job of checking on us. I can’t comment much on my date’s tuna except to say that something later in the night made him ill. Up until dinner, we had eaten the exact foods during the day so we were left to speculate that the fish was less than fresh. That marred the evening in retrospect but in truth, that is still probably the nicest restaurant on the island at this point.
The Avalon Grille is one of the best dining options in Avalon; excellent menu, strong wine list, and terrific bartenders make the Avalon Grille the go-to spot for upscale dining on the island
Restaurant came highly recommended and did not disappoint!
Birthday! Treated like a special quest!
The portions are larger than some other places I’ve eaten at on the island which was a pleasant surprise. We really loved the meat and cheese board. The ambiance was lovely and food was good, though depending on what you order though it can get pricey. We went here for a special occasion so it was worth it for us.
We always enjoy Avalon Grille. Great location! Good food, good service:)
The food was excellent and the staff was very friendly and professional. My filet mignon was so tender I hardly needed a knife!
Sunday prime rib I'd well worth it!
The food was amazing. The waiter we had was a little awkward, but besides that, great food, nice place.
It was our 50th wedding anniversary and they did a great job helping us celebrate.
