This was not the nice dinner we expected. My husband always wanted to go to the Cheeca Lodge for dinner because of its great history and reputation. We had a BEAUTIFUL view of the ocean from our outdoor table. That’s about the best thing I can say about it. There were children running around everywhere in wet bathing suits, yelling as they scrambled through the tables. Adults in bathing suits walked right through the dining area consistently. Everyone was loud and there was no regard for people eating. Our server took about 10 minutes to greet us initially. She came back for a drink order and told me “no, I don’t have that” when I ordered a Malbec. I had to point it out to her on the menu. We had bread plates, but bread never came. She finally brought some out after our main entrees arrived. We shared a salad and one entree and our bill was over $100. I went to the restroom and when I returned my chair was gone and placed at another table. We were extremely disappointed in this experience. It is definitely not worth the price. We love good food and good dining experiences, but this was not it.

I was a guest at the resort so a bit of a captive audience as I had no interest in going off property. All was very good though I’d recommend that the question of what room I was in not be asked multiple times.

They’ve lost the battle with service. Waited 20+ min for server finally went to bar to get my own drinks. Manager didn’t know specials. Waited one hour more with no service. We left. Table next to us came in 20 after us and appeared to have a nice dinner. Not workers fault. They tried. Bad management. Food is very good. EP Rumson

Lekker, vers en iha goed bereid eten. Helaas iets teveel "dressing" over de tonijn, vandaar de mindere beoordeling. De akoestiek is niet goed en mede door de gezellige drukte soms wat lastig om elkaar te verstaan. De bediening was subliem; wij hadden Neslie, dat is een topper! Iig genoeg reden om erheen te gaan, aanrader dus.

Good, arrived an hour early. So we called from the parking lot,,,gated part of a resort requiring parking hang tag., to ask if we could shift to noon. No problem, not that busy he said ,, nice folks ,, cool day so sat at the bar. Good food and service.

Very good. The only issue is they ran out of gas for the propane heaters and it was cool and windy that night.

This was the worst experience I have ever had. Started off with not being able to find the valet - had to look for him for 5min. We had a reservation at 8, but they did not have a spot for us. We were sent to the bar, where we couldn’t find the bartender in the meantime. We were finally seated at 830. The food finally arrived at 930. The crab claw (one only) was partially still frozen. 2min after appetizer they bring the entree and try to take our appetizer away. They didn’t have a stand for wine so had to leave it on the floor. They didn’t bring enough forks. The food was not good - as an example, the bounty of the sea was supposed to be coconut and lemongrass but was basically cooked down butter. It was just terrible. I would not recommend this place to anyone. It didn’t have any kind of management. We were not offered to be compensated for anything (not even the drink at bar where we waited for our seat). What a terrible horrible place.

Our original reservation was for a party of 8 to celebrate a birthday, which was noted on our reservation. When the restaurant called to confirm the reservation, I indicated that we would now be a party of 4. I waited on the phone while the person had a side conversation about our change with another employee. She then confirmed the change would be made. When we arrived for our reservation we were told to wait a few minutes and that our table was being set up. After a few minutes we went back to the hostess stand and were walked over to our table. The table was set up for 8, so I indicated that we were only 4 and had advised the restaurant previously of the change. She seemed to not know what to do. As we waited a few seconds for her to tell us what to do, another guest walked by and indicated that the table we were at was her table for her group's birthday celebration. The hostess still did not say much and so I offered to go wait at the entrance again until they resolved the confusion and set up our table for 4.

We were later seated in a quieter area of the restaurant surrounded by lush foliage, but unfortunately, it was so dark you could barely see anything. There were a couple of tiki torches in the surrounding area, but nowhere near enough to help with our lighting and no tea lights on the table. Once our waiter took our order, we waited for a very long time without any food coming to the table. The waiter never acknowledged the lengthy wait or stopped by to see if we needed anything. My husband remembered he had seen bread on some tables when we first got to the restaurant. We flagged down our waiter and asked for the bread. The bread was brought about a minute before our appetizer arrived. Found 7 scales in the Snapper filet as I was eating it. I didn't bother to finish eating it as this was not worth the effort to make sure I didn't swallow a scale. Birthday was never acknowledged.

Valentines Day dinner. Terribly overpriced “set” menu. Main course options were steak or lobster. Steak was tough and lobster was very fishy tasting. The backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean was beautiful but I was very disappointed overall. The kicker at the end was that they didn’t accept cash as a payment option.

The restaurant is very expensive. without a drink or dessert, it cost $120 for 2. This was for a roasted chicken breast and the other dinner braised beef. The menu is also very limited. The outside seating is lovely though.

This was terrible start to finish . Our table was in the path of the kitchen.The cocktails were a syrupy premix. Sent back . The wine was brought to the table corked.When questioned the sommelier stated he wanted it to breathe ? The 80.00 filet mignon/lobster was ordered med rare .Served well done . No steak knife.The waiter offered to bring a new filet .40 min wait .At this point only 3 other tables in restaurant .We were not offered dessert menus although the staff was aware we were celebrating a 40th birthday.Unfortunately our waiter had friends sitting at a table close to us . He spent most of the two and a half hours we were there chatting with his friends.As we spoke to many people in the area and shared our experience no one was surprised .So many great restaurants in Islamorada,no surprise this was barely occupied on a Saturday night. We spoke to a previous employee and she confirmed our suspicions about the wine.She left due to practices such as this.

In fairness, our review might have been different had we been able to order from the regular menu we saw online. However, it was Christmas Day and, we learned upon being seated, the restaurant was only offering a buffet for $95/person with a mandatory 20% service charge (for serving yourself). As with many buffets, the entrees were dry and barely warm and the vegetables were soggy from sitting in a chafing dish for too long. The buffet room staff were confused about what the dishes were and had placed the wrong labels on some items. Other dishes had no serving spoons and it took forever for the staff to fetch them from the kitchen. The dessert table looked like a bomb had gone off in the middle of it and the chocolate layered dessert was a piled up jumble. The one saving grace was a tray of oysters on the half shell and boiled shrimp that was fresh and delicious. The staff who served our water and wine were helpful and friendly. Otherwise, the meal was a very expensive, complete waste of money.

This restaurant made my number one pet peeve. We ordered stone crab as an appetizer and our dinner. Of course our dinner arrived after eating one stone crab (within 5 minutes of receiving appetizer). For the price of this meal this is a huge mistake. We had to put our appetizer aside so that we could eat our entree while warm.

The food was unexceptional. We were disappointed. The beet appetizer we ordered was pretty tasteless and overworked. The fish was bland and the potatoes it was served with were for some reason, sweet. The steak was overdone and the ravioli was meh. The only reason we gave 2 stars was because the dessert was delicious.

We originally sat at a table, but had trouble getting service so we moved to the bar (most people sit outside but we decided to sit inside). Maggie took care of us from there and she was absolutely awesome. The drinks she makes are not only tasty, but very pretty, too. She took excellent care of us and our meal ended up being wonderful. The bar got very busy, but she treated everyone there like they were her only customer. We’re not seafood eaters so we had the chicken and steak. Both were cooked perfectly. And the key lime dessert was delicious. The food was very good and the service was great!

Delicious, freshly prepared and unique dishes, with first class presentation. The best crab dinner I’ve ever had! Attentive wait staff was at our table at regular intervals to ask about drink refills or to remove plates. Beautifully decorated dining room with a wonderful view of the ocean.

Slowest service, took away from the dining experience, and tables weren’t half full....it took 20+ minutes to just get cocktails for 2..... table next to us waited 30 minutes for 2 drinks; the food was pretty good but after waiting an hour, we had lost our appetites And we asked to have tiki torches lit, to add to ambiance....and that seemed to be a monumental task....only 1 was lit..... and then we saw a rat!

The quality of the service and the food was simply awful. We loved our stay at Cheeca Lodge and everything outside of the restaurant was great...but there was simply nothing redeemable about the food or service. It was slow, bad, disorganized, chaotic and just made you feel uncomfortable. We ate offsite for dinner after that, as not only was the service atrocious the food was simply bad. Plating was horrible, quality of the cook was “off” completely as well. We did try them once for breakfast and they ruined that too. Waited 10 minutes for water, then waited another 45 for the food. My hard boiled eggs were soft boiled, and were not served with the toast I ordered. And, the fruit plate my husband ordered was served without the yogurt and the muffin. They said they ran out of muffins and offered an alternative that showed up 20 minutes later. When asked about the yogurt they said they simply forgot. This restaurant needs new management outside and inside the kitchen to get back to what it once was. Super disappointing.

The quality of this restaurant has significantly declined over the last few years. Once we were seated, we sat without receiving any attention for at least 10 minutes and we could tell the waitstaff was scrambling and arguing over who had our table. Everything just seemed disorganized and the hospitality and vibe has gone downhill. Strongly do not recommend. I've been dining out in Islamorada for over a decade and used to love this place but won't come again until there's a serious change in management.
