Food was very good. I had the roasted beet salad and beef curry. Everything tasted great. Only complaint is that the service was pretty slow, but other than that, everything was great.
We made an early reservation at 5:15. We were probably the first couple inside the restaurant so it was a little quiet. The hostess was friendly and polite and got us directly to our seats where we had great service and outstanding food. We both ordered different specials and they were both fantastic. We had a couple cocktails, appetizer (the hummus appetizer was delicious) and dessert. Great date night, really cozy atmosphere and great service and food. We will be back
It was nothing exceptional. The food was alright but on the underseasoned side. The appetizers were the best thing out of the meal.
Thoroughly impressed. Food and service was outstanding. Priced on the high side, but it's high quality.
A local jewel in Southern Pines. Great food, atmosphere and service.
Good food, the lighting was a bit dark so reading menu was challenging, but that is because of my failing eyes. The value was very good.
First time visit to Ashten's and loved every moment! From the cocktail shaker sound at the cozy lower pub area to our very own cocktails with appetizers that we lingered over with no rush to order dinner to unique and delicious dessert drinks. It was all lovely!
You can’t go wrong with Ashten’s. A premier farm-to-table restaurant. The regular restaurant section is elegant and perfect for a occasion. Yet if you eat in the pub section, it’s very cozy.
What a gem in the city of Southern Pines! Every single bite was delicious and so well prepared. The wait staff was attentive but not intrusive - which is rare these days. I plan to return again and again.
Excellent trout and Ruben egg rolls.
Kind and attentive service
Ashton's never disappoints. The menu is fabulous, the specials for the evening are tempting beyond words.
Eat here once a month to have the crispy duck. Only ate in the bar once due to painting in the main dining room. When I arrived I was not offered my choice of main dining or the bar as in the past but was escorted to a table in the bar. I should have asked to be moved then but last time was not bad and being a table of 1 thought perhaps the empty main dining had reservations.
MISTAKE! Not only was it uncomfortably cold and loud but the staff was not worth the price of dinner. As they spoke they moved on before they could complete a sentence, they barely checked on me and when they did it was late in the meal. The bottled water was left for me to pour and the worst thing of all was that the duck was over cooked. Disappointed is an understatement! I always look forward to eating here when I travel to the area for business but not so much after this evening because after my cold, loud meal with overcooked duck I exited through the main dining area to see only 3 tables occupied.
Food and drinks were absolutely delicious! Service was wonderful too. Can't wait to go back!
Food was absolutely exquisite. Got the Reuben Rolls for appetizer, cheese and meet tray, then roast duck for my main. Service was slower than we anticipated but it doesn't appear it was for a lack of effort. The staff were very hospitable. We will be going back when we can dedicate 3 hours for the experience.
We had our first meal here for valentines weekend. Everything was great and the meal was delish. Our salads were tasty, the Reuben egg rolls are a must try and the entrees (beef curry and Asian cod) were amazing. We plan to return and try the pub fare next time.
Ashten's is one of our favorite restaurants in the area and we bring all of our out of town guests there, and they always love it.
Valentines! Waitress was awesome!!!!!
Wonderful attention to detail - great menu, service and food. the only complaint - please take the time once a month and sit at every table - if one wobbles, fix it.
We always have an amazing experience but it wasn’t the same today. The wait staff wasn’t personable, we weren’t given silverware and when asked they brought it but never received napkins. No one checked on us to see if we needed anything after our food came. Lastly we waited for our Ashten Bucks and never received them. We will go back as I’m hoping this was an anomaly.
We made some outstanding menu choices....will certainly come back.
Ashten’s has always been our go to for the area. However, the last two times we have dined there the service has been lacking. Not what we have experienced in the past. What’s happened?
Always enjoy food and atmosphere, and they were nice enough to accommodate time perference
Our service was the best part of the evening. The food was pretty good, but the large table next to us was loud, cursing and being generally obnoxious. The bar area is too small for that!
The food was great. The two problems I had were the service was so slow that I thought I would be eating breakfast there instead of dinner. They were busy but the pace was ridiculous. The other was that we were in a lower dining room. I had my 96-year-old mother with me and she had trouble navigating the narrow stairs. We could have been told that the dining room would only be stair accessible. It was such a problem that we decided to use the back door that went to an alley and had to navigate unpaved access to the road. Great way to end a meal! Maybe this place is good for a couple but we won't be going back.
Sophisticated ambiance; knowledgeable servers; spectacular food!
I had fish and chips and my husband had the pork chop. The fish seemed a little under cooked (just about flaky) but tasted fine. Disappointed in the portion but it came with plenty of fries. The pork chop was pink which if I served it that way at home my husband would have had me cook it longer. The chop was huge and the collards were very good.
The service was just OK. We didn't know about the specials until another table was seated near us and our waiter recited them but we'd already ordered. The woman was also offered a choice of sides with her fish and chips (salad, chips, and another either sweet potato fries or onion rings? couldn't really hear). We had the bread pudding for dessert. It was a bit dry and there wasn't enough cinnamon ice cream to offset the dryness. I'd pass on dessert.
My husband and I had dinner last evening at Ashten’s, and it was wonderful! We need to go back again soon. It is a wonderful restaurant.
My wife and I go there often and our experiences are always great. However, our last visit was lacking in the service area. It took a long time for everything, drinks, food, check, etc. It wasn’t bad just not the norm but won’t prevent t us from going back. We love Ashten’s, that night was definitely not the norm. Thanks!
Has not been here for years. Food was good, but the dining room situation was not great with the renovation. Also, we ordered a high end Malbec, that was warmer than room temperature which hurt its quality.
ashten's is one of our local haunts and does indeed merit high honors for its ambiance, service and ever-evolving menu. the one thing that has become evident in the past year or so is the sodium level in the food. we have tried the same dishes several times to make sure it wasn't just a fluke, yet there is simply far too much salt in the food. this was also a complaint of some friends with whom we were dining this past w-e, one of whom is a foodie and restaurant owner. he said he normally oversalts his own food, but found there was way too much in several of the appetizers and main courses, even for him. perhaps best to start off with lower sodium levels in the kitchen, then diners can add more at the table if so desired.
The reservation was made for a birthday yet no one at any time acknowledged that fact during the hour we spent in the restaurant.
Over the past eighteen years we celebrated many birthdays and anniversaries at Ashtens both for the food and ambiance; this time not so much 👎
We were very disappointed in Ashtens.
Delicious food, great service
Great place, food was wonderful, service very good. The only thing was no place to sit and have a pre dinner drink, so didn’t like that much, everything else was great...
I appreciate they had a vegan menu! Food service was fast - but receiving the bill took a long time.
Still the best overall dining experience in Moore County ( and there are many good ones here )!
Won’t be back. Food great. Waitress good. But the loud obnoxious man at table next to us. No help from staff.
Inexcusable for such a beautiful place
I want to apologize to you regarding your meal.I'm sorry that another guest ruined your evening so much so that you felt the need to write a review. It is inexcusable for one guest to be so inconsiderate.I wish I could say that it was a "one off" but from time to time we do have folks that forget they aren't the only guests we have.Sometimes we can say something and sometimes it makes matters worse. In my staff's defense, I feel it was the later. Please give us another try in the New Year. Ashley
Bring back the Bison burger and offer Bre cheese. Reading the menu in the pub is challenging due to lack of light.
Food was good. Atmosphere was quite. Waiter was friendly. Would recommend 👍
The service was SUPER SLOW! I even made a point to let our waitress know that we had to drive a little over an hour home with our 3 kids who had school the next day. Quite disappointing.
yet another fabulous experience at ashten's...the only reason why i refrained from giving 5 stars to the food was due to a relatively new appetizer that contained triple the dose of salt necessary, yet the bill was adjusted...a pleasant surprise....ashten's has been consistent in its excellence throughout the years, ashten's afield as well, and we are grateful to have such a top-notch establishment in our area...many, many thanks, see you soon, and happy holidays !
