About this restaurant

  • Romantic
  • Good for special occasions
Arro is the latest endeavor from ELM Restaurant Group (24 Diner, Easy Tiger Bake Shop & Beer Garden). At the helm of this casual French spot is ELM’s executive chef/partner, Andrew Curren, accompanied by his wife, pastry chef Mary Catherine Curren.

The focus of Chef Drew’s kitchen is a wood-fired grill, and he will continue his philosophies of preparing all food to exacting standards in house and incorporating local and organic products whenever possible. This commitment has earned him many accolades from local press as well as mentions in Food & Wine, Bon Appétit and Saveur magazines. Mary Catherine and her team will craft a thoughtful menu of both traditional and seasonal desserts on site, and bread will be baked fresh daily at Easy Tiger.

The exclusively French wine list was curated by two master sommeliers: Craig Collins and Devon Broglie. Classic apéritifs and handcrafted cocktails, as well as a thoughtful selection of beers, are available.

Food and service was excellent. It's a really cool place and my only complaint is that the tables for two on the back wall were entirely too close to one another... Literally just over a foot or so. My neighbor at the table beside me literally rubbed elbows with me.

Lovely setting, great location but overall Arro needs work. Food is good/ fair but not great. Beef Tartare a "house specialty" was poor... Burned toast, dice of the beef was to large and chunky for a tartare, and flavorless... Beets were good, Parisian Gnocchi, Steak Frites, all good but not great. Desserts ho hum. Waitress could not make the French press work for coffee. I expected more overall culinary skill and more flavorful French fare. Overall a decent experience but the greeting staff was rude and then sullen as they oddly had plenty of open tables, we had a reservation but kept trying to put us in a vacant side room.

Our dinner was outstanding, start to finish. Everything was impeccably fresh, artisanal, beautifully presented, and perfectly seasoned. The food was among the best restaurant food I have ever had, including many great meals in France. Ambiance: artsy, informal, a little noisy ( server graciously turned down the volume of music when asked).

First off the website is unclear as to the location. Let's try this, "SW corner of 6th and Nueces." They do have valet parking which is great for 6th St. Staff and waitress were friendly, attentive, knowledgeable and prompt. The drinks were excellent as was the wine list. We had the fried blackeyed peas which were surprisingly delicious. Both my wife and I had the Bar Steak Frites (Steak and shoestring fries with a garlic aoli for the fries. Everything was delicious except that the steak was tough. A place like this should be able to get a better steak than this, heck I can get one at Costco.

I loved the food, especially the butternut squash salad. The wine list had great variety, and the night we went it was half price bottles. Which was a fun surprise. Arro is very comfortable, and the noise level is just right.

One of my New Year's Resolutions was to try one new restaurant a week. My parents were in for the weekend and I wanted to impress. Arro did not fail! A first for us all, we had no idea what to expect. I made a reservation for 5pm Friday. My parents arrived a few minutes before they were open. Someone told them to come back shortly and gave them a voucher for free bubbly and frites! The service started even before we sat down and it only got better. Amazing waitstaff, impeccable menu, and the wine selection was out of control. Really really well done from top to bottom. The 1/2 pound chicken may be the best chicken I've ever eaten and definitely a table pleaser. The Parisian Gnocchi was superb. Blood orange sorbet with crème fraiche. This is bistro food at its most luxurious. The best part was the quality of service from our waiter- Knowledagble, kind, charming and engaging. Can't wait to go back!

Not seated at a table despite reservation and timely arrival, host staff either inexperienced or lackadaisical. Emergency reservations placed and honored at another restaurant and apology received from friendly staff member. Drink was well made, staff generally friendly and professional on a busy night, obvious camaraderie that is nice to see. App eaten at bar was fine. Hopefully others will report an overall better experience.

Loved the service. Good was delicious, just wish there was more of it. Serving sizes left me needing a cheeseburger about 10 minutes after I left.
