A heated patio provides a comfortable way to enjoy outdoor dining in the Presidio and features accents that connect today’s experiences to the historic Presidio, including an outdoor comal (griddle) for tortilla making.
We had an early Saturday brunch here (11:30am), and so were able to be seated on the patio. Really lovely. My daughter and I had Huevos Rancheros. My husband had Fish and Shrimp Tacos. Also, we all had cocktails but unfortunately I forgot to write down what we each had. But we each enjoyed what we ordered. We all agreed that we would definitely return to Arguello, on the early side so as to secure an outdoor table.
The sweet potato hash was one of the interesting flavor treats in many months. Including epazote and cilantro, among other things.
Menu limited but food was imaginative and quite good, albeit very salty (both snapper and shrimp). Dining room very disappointing--small, dark, noisy and much like a fast food joint. No "good" tables and nothing attractive or inviting about the inside. Outside patio very pretty but cold (& closed for private party). Help okay but we had to beg for the lone table that had a window to the patio. Would ho back for the food except it's too expensive for the overall dreary experience.
Great spot our waiter Alejandro was awesome! Food delicious ! Empanadas everyone’s fav !!
Good food. Great place. Interesting location. Easy parking. Cocktails expensive.
Awesome all around!
I enjoyed the heirloom tomato salad starter, the guacamole was great, and so was the snapper entree and a side of black beans. Beautiful dining room, lovely margarita. Will be back!
Food was amazing... Service was great... I'm glad that I came across this great hidden gem!!
Awesome food & drink. Great service. The presidio is so beautiful.
Nice staff, ok food, excellent drinks.
Great food and service! Love the mexican food here
we spent one night in Presidio - so glad we did because dinner was fantastic! The flavors were outstanding as was the waiter who helped us learn about the differences of tequila. Worth a trip!
The best chile rellenos I have ever had! I wish I lived closer.
The host was curt and unfriendly, seemed upset and made blunt / rude comments. Will think again before going back
Great Mexican typefood. The best I’ve had in a long time. And mescal forgettaboutit. Aqua Chile and ceviche. Great great area.
The food is unique and delicious. Each month featured a Mexican region's specialties. Great list of mezcal. Service is very good parking is plentiful and easy.
It was a little expensive for what we got. Service got off to a slow start, then more attentive later.
We had lunch outside on a beautiful day and loved the food and staff.
Super Delicious and in a really fun location. We will return (and sip some cocktails).
Service was not up to fine dining standards, from the snotty hostess who couldn't be bothered to help us to the inexperienced server who was pretty clueless about customer service.
Food was great, different spin on popular Mexican foods. Service was spot on.
service was not so great on this visit. better in the past
good food, just wish the waitstaff had been more attentive.
The food has improved immensely since this place first opened. Really delivering on high end Mexican cuisine at reasonable prices. Empanadas and snapper err do die for!
Great location and ambience but outside of the bar and "bar food", I'd pass.
Really fun place in a National Park.
Limited menu overpriced. Beer was a tasty IPA. The outside dinning area was more attractive than inside.
Thoughtful menu and excellent execution! The ceviche was excellent and the plantain chips to eat it with imaginative and it worked well. We had the Oaxacan mole and the cochinito pibil. Both were flavorful at every bite, the chicken (mole) was moist and the pork (pibil) moist and with a citrusy flavor. We asked for mole sauce (which was flavorful but seemed toned down---spicy-wise for anglo palates. Still very good.
The corn tortillas are hand-made and wonderful. We asked for more and they gave us more, no questions. Lovely staff, knowledgeable and friendly. We will return next time we are in SF.
PS. The flan was the best we have had anywhere. Arguello needs to publish cookbook!
We truly enjoy the friendly Arguello team members and the delicious food. We enjoy the changing menu and deep flavors. Arguello is a great spot in the Presidio that is a favorite of ours while we lived nearby and now anytime we are in the area. Enjoy the warm expressions from both the Arguello people, the food and the historic surroundings. Have fun!
Really great food and cocktails! Service a tad lax--but enough margaritas and you won't even notice.
The fish and pork main plates are deelish! Be sure to order extra home-made tortillas, and fabulous beans.....
Alejandro was great!!
Lovey setting. Congenial and competent staff. Some of the food choices are very good, others not so much. Flan, tortilla chips, guacamole, beer — very good; rice and beans—well cooked but boring and nothing close to Mexican. Brunch options —e.g. — huevos rancheros—actually boring. No spices! Generous portions. They need an authentic Mexican chef.
A little disappointing this time around. We've been to Arguello many times in the past, and the service was always good. However, this past Saturday, there was a large private party in a side room and it seemed like the staff and kitchen were spread thin. Service was a little slow and it took longer than usual for the food to come out. They also ran out of guacamole and shrimp. Will definitely return to this restaurant again, but hopefully on a night when there's no private party.
Our server was lovely but we were confused along with other guests about how to enter the restaurant with a party occupying the patio and no directions telling us to cross through the patio. We called and so did other guests standing outside. It was not clear with the sign provided telling us a private party was in the patio. My guest wanted to skip our reservation and I finally took us through the patio.
The food was fantastic, the service was perfect and the location is amazing.
The chips were homemade and the guacamole was above average! The chicken taquitos were perfect as well. They had craft beers on tap as well. If you are staying in the Presidio or in the area, this is the restaurant that you should go to for dinner... especially if you are choosing between Sessions and Arguello.
The food was a bland, at least what I ordered - empanadas and vegan mole. Awesome guacamole, service, atmosphere, and access and parking was SO easy. So it was a mixed experience. For the $$ and Traci des Jardins' reputation, I expected bigger flavors and more of a Wow factor.
Arguello has the most flavorful, authentic & delicious Mexican food in SF, not to mention the Pancho Villa margaritas. Eli, our waiter, was very helpful & attentive.
Great chips, good drinks. Appetizers pretty good, mediocre large plates. Slow service overall.
Went on a date with my boyfriend. Great food, a bit expensive but worth it. Will return for sure!
Compliments to the chef on Mother's Day. My wife was extremely pleased. Will return
