There was a fairly long delay after ordering our food before the meal came out. The waiter apologized, I doubt it was his fault. That was the only negative about our meal. Everything else was excellent.
Very good food with excellent service. Fried flounder is fabulous. Easy walk to all downtown sites. Full bar. Parking is a challenge.
The last 2 times I have been the noise level was quite annoying to the point that I will have a hard time recommending Anson's to my out of town quest. The food was great and service .
Anson has been one of our favorite restaurants for many years and they hit it out of the park the other night. We arrived and our booth was ready, which during Restaurant Week in Charleston is often not the case at other restaurants. Billy, our server, arrived quickly, welcomed us warmly, and took our drink order. Our guests had never dined there, so he gave them a quick overview of the classic dishes on the menu and what was particularly great that night. He brought fresh bread, which we usually skip so as not to be too full, but once one of our guests tried it, we actually cleaned out the basket. For appetizers, one guest ordered the she-crab soup, and two of us ordered the fried oysters--delectable! For entrees, three of us ordered the flash-fried flounder, which is a show-stopper; my husband ordered the catfish. The flounder was accompanied by the best baby butterbeans I've ever had. My husband's catfish was on a bed of succotash. We all cleaned our plates--we laughed about it later--it was completely silent once our entrees arrived we were eating so hard. What a neighborhood treasure! We can't wait to go back.
the crispy flounder was very good. Not oily or greasy, but fried to a crisp on the outside and the meat was moist and tender.
Wait staff was excellent, gave us some insights into the city without being obtrusive.
This was my first trip to Charleston. My friends and I had a fabulous time and really enjoyed Anson. The food was wonderful and the hospitality was an added bonus. This was my favorite restaurant during the entire trip. I can't wait to visit again!
One of my favorite restaurants in Charleston. Crispy Flounder, Title Fish Special on Friday
1/17/20 fantastic!! If you haven't been there you should go!
Everything was delicious and customer service was 2nd to none
Awesome as always!! I have lived in Chucktown for 17 years and it is still my favorite!
Everyone made us feel special and enhanced our dining experience with attentiveness and care.
Wonderful welcoming Maitre D. We had a very good waiter. The ambiance is beautiful
Very nice place, excellent food and service. Too bad they’re not open for lunch. This would be a great place for my Ladies Lunch club.
I would be remiss if I did not preface this review solicited by OpenTable with the statement that we dine at Anson often, and almost always have a good meal. In fact, I generally prefer Anson to any other downtown eatery because of everything it is. NOT however for Restaurant Week. We were an early evening party of three. We were seated without being offered the RW menus, only the standard menus. Our server was great, took drink orders and handed us RW menus after we requested them. Each of us ordered something different from the 3 for $45 RW menu selection, and each of us was beyond disappointed when our mains were placed in front of us. Each dish was meager. Each dish was nothing like their menu descriptions, and much description which should have been included in the menu write-ups was left off. The Chicken Rigatoni was advertised as coming with a Marsala sauce. I received a bowl of rigatoni noodles with pulled chicken and a soup broth poured over top, any hint of Marsala non existent. The salmon offering featured a piece of salmon half the size of a playing card, also served in a vast bowl with a tad of some sort of soupy corn. We were given forks of course to dine with, but would have had much better luck with spoons, and that is no exaggeration. The desserts nor the appetizers could scarcely make up for the over-priced, poorly developed dishes presented. RW is about locals being able to eat downtown without the crowds and enjoy specials that other locals (the restaurants) take pride in creating. We always look forward, however will not be returning to Anson for this experience in the future.
Excellent dinner. Clearly a place frequented by locals.
Great food, great service. The noise level was a bit high but that’s the case in most restaurants these days.
Good food and service. Walked from hotel to the Market area. Warm reception.
A really enjoyable dining experience. Very good food from a very nice menu. Outstanding service.
Great atmosphere .... locals place ... outstanding service and food ... one of our new favorite Charleston restaurants. !!
The food was good! Definitely leave room for dessert- the creme brûlée was amazing!!
Great food and great staff. Go to with out of town friends! Also local spot for locals.
Always a great meal. The Crispy Flounder is the best in Charleston in my opinion! Great Wait staff and experience
Food was unfortunately mediocre for the price—for any price, really. Sauce on duck confit far too sweet, as was accompanying collards. Potatoes and succotash lacked seasoning and flavors. Really disappointing.
We ended up here after a carriage ride, thinking that it was going to be unfortunately a tourist trap. We were quite happily mistaken. The exterior is beautiful but it is even more exquisite on the inside. The ground level is really cozy & beautiful and the upstairs a little more sedate and elegant. Love both spaces. We had local oysters as an appetizer and were the best we had our entire stay in the City. But the highlight of the evening is one of their signature dishes ...the crispy snapper. We were not prepared as to how delicious and different this was from the tenderness of the filet to the taste of the homemade apricot glaze. Quite an experience that was capped off by incredible service--our server Mark was a delight--professional and very friendly. Would recommend Anson without hesitation!
3rd year in a row we have had dinner on New Years Eve. Always good food & great service
Had the most amazing NYE dinner here! The ambiance was cozy and romantic, and food was incredible! Having worked in the service industry for several years, I appreciate great hospitality! Our server, Barrett, could not have been better! He was extremely knowledgeable and provided great recommendations. Highly recommend the Flounder, it was one of the best meals I've ever had! :)
I dine at Anson anytime I'm in Charleston. The food is always superb and there is a nice variety of options; the wine list is excellent, and the cocktails are the best! The atmosphere is wonderful, as well. So plan a trip, and when you make your reservations, be sure to ask to be seated in Billy's section. He is fantastic!
Excellent food and service, be prepared to pay for it though! Menu prices are expensive.
I am so happy that I picked Anson for New Years.
The service was friendly and perfect.
The professional calm servers and staff had wonderful southern manners.
The food was Perfection!
The interior design is amazing.
I have dined at most of the Charleston restaurants and this by far is now my favorite.
Very lovely. Great staff and beautiful ambiance. Second time there.
We had a great experience at Anson. We were walking there and got a little confused which put us ten minutes late. I called Anson and told them we were running late and they said it was no problem. When we got there the host said" You're right on time-Charleston time." From there we were taken to an upstairs table in a large dining room with ample space between tables. The ambiance was "old South" and our waiter was very attentive, informative and efficient. We started with the appetizer portion of shrimp and grits which was outstanding. My local Yellow Snapper with succotash was cooked perfectly and tasty. My wife's filet was great with great seasoning and saucing. Then the shared Banana Cream really topped off a wonderful first night in Charleston. Oh, I forgot to mention they sold a half bottle of Rombauer Chardonnay which was perfect for us.
It was just OK. There are so many great places to eat in Charleston. Unfortunately this is not one of them. We ordered She Crab Soup as an appetizer and we think it came out of a can, very bland. My wife's crab cake was over cooked. I had a filet which was fine. The mashed potatoes were supposed to have goat cheese, but did not, just plain mashed potatoes. For what we got it was overpriced I think.
This was an outstanding experience in every way! We loved it and will definitely be back. We have added Anson’s to our list of favorites in Charleston.
It wasn’t terrible. But it definitely wasn’t a great or good meal experience
Fried green tomatoes, flounder, ny strip, and she crab soup were outstanding. Some other dishes were good, but not as amazing.
I loved the food and ambience. Will definitely return on my next trip to Charleston.
Mike our Maitre d was awesome, as was the very nice gentleman who served us. We brought our own bottle of wine so we cannot comment on the restaurant’s selection. The food was fantastic with ample portions. Just enough for me and a little more than my lady friend could eat. We very highly recommend The Anson restaurant.
Excellent! One of the best restaurants in Charleston. (Along with Slightly North of Broad) Be sure and get reservations before or when you get into town (or you’ll be waiting forever). The side dishes are awesome. Grits, hand cut fries, collard greens, etc. This is not one to miss, while in town!!!
