   A beautiful venue for a special occasion or well-deserved night out from a rough week. Have a nicely prepared fresh cocktail with top shelf liquor at the bar before dinner and enjoy the savory snacks to get your taste buds flowing, too! An early dinner rez made it possible for us to have a nice booth rather than sit at a table, and begin with a quieter evening. As the night progressed, the resto became full house and lively, but we could still converse without raising our voices. Nice live guitar music helped set the relaxing/romantic tone. We had to have the table side prepared risotto! What a show!!! It was rich, creamy and filling, but we saved room for my truffle tasting menu and his fresh made papardelle with fillet. It was heaven to have gluten free bread and pasta available by request! Their scratch made gelato satisfied our sweet tooth before ending our meal and taking a nice walk along the patio with a gorgeous view of the Pacific Ocean. Go dressed up to make the evening special, but business casual seems to be acceptable. Waitstaff is knowledgeable of wines and professional in service. They know the menu well for dietary restrictions. Go, enjoy, and forget the world! Self parking is close and available if you don't want to valet.

   When paying over $150 for a multi course, pre fixe menu, I expect solidly delicious food. The only star was our server. He had exceptional wine knowledge & was quite personable. The manager came over and interrupted him to say another table needed their check, which was incredibly unprofessional & rude. Yes, this was a holiday meal, but the fish was horrific. The beet salad underwhelming and the cauliflower soup was meh. Thank god for the risotto because otherwise, I would have left absolutely starving. The desserts were so sad! If I order pumpkin cheesecake and a cream puff, tell me they are an interpretive form of the dessert, on the menu. I’ve eaten at Andrea for dinners in the past was pleased. If you are going to offer a “feast” make it extraordinary. This was a complete & total Failure.

   It is always disappointing to have a dependable restaurant disappoint you, isn’t it? We always enjoy dining at Andrea, although Pelican Grill is our go to in Newport. Tonight was a fail overall, so much so that we cancelled our reservation later in the week. The kitchen delivered very tasty starters and pasta, and the wait staff was generally attentive, initially. The problem with Andrea appears to be inconsistency with food and service. I suspect if you live up the hill and management knows that, you’ll be fine; for those of us visiting the area, we may have a different experience - but honestly, I don’t know that. When issues were brought to the waiter and manager’s attention, they were quick to offer compensation in the way of complementary food or wine, which I didn’t want. I don’t want to bring issues to a waiter’s attention, much less a manager’s attention - generally speaking, we shouldn’t need to. And I’d always prefer an acknowledgement of, and simple apology for, whatever was done improperly. Most diners are very reasonable and forgiving. But when I’m treated like I’m high maintenance for expecting wine ordered earlier to be served sooner than later with the entree or when I bring this to staff’s attention and nothing is done about it, or when I send sole too tough to break apart politely back to the kitchen for their assessment and receive the manager’s apology for “slightly overcooked” fish, I feel as though I’m considered to be difficult and it spoils my meal. And to bring these points to staff’s attention in front of my guests makes it worse. So while the pasta was delicious, I won’t be coming back as soon as I’d like, and I’m disappointed in that.

   This was our second time to eat at Andrea. The first time was a solid 5-star experience, which is why we returned the next day. The food, the service, the ambiance...all amazing! Unfortunately, our second time was a huge disappointment. It was a Monday evening, and the restaurant was short staffed. One waiter was handling tables both inside and outside. We ordered a steak (without sauce) and asked for french fries. The restaurant was very accommodating and amenable to our off-menu order. However, the steak was terrible and the french fries tasted as if they came out of a freezer bag. By far, the worst meal we have ever had at a five-star resort. We regret not sending the steak/fries back and providing "real-time" feedback. Even on a slow night, a five-star resort such as Pelican Hill should provide the best food experience possible for its customers. Unfortunately, that was not the case for us that evening.

    The music was fantastic, our waiter was good but our “busses” was fantastic! Moises was beyond, he was on top of the service in the best way! He was personable, friendly, and was never in the way!
