About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Innovative
  • Great for scenic views
Amuse is a seasonal, farm to table driven restaurant, located on the third floor of the museum. Whether you are dining in our main dining room, full-service bar, or our private dining room, you will be able to take in sweeping views of the Robins Sculpture Garden and the museum’s Cochrane Atrium. Our team works diligently to provide a menu that is directly inspired by the art-filled surroundings, current exhibitions, and seasonality while also carefully selecting only the finest ingredients from local vendors, artisans, and farmers. Just a friendly reminder that the museum does not allow balloons, confetti, glitter, plants potted with soil, and candles with open flames. If a date and time you seek for a reservation appears to be full, please give us a call so we can see what other times might be available.

Amuse is one of my favorite restaurants, but this particular visit was slightly disappointing. I had an 11:30 AM reservation and was seated promptly, but then sat and sat a bit while the servers were congregating and visiting with one another. I had to wave to get someone to come over and get my drink order. I tried the sweet potato soup with peanuts. It was good. Then had the red fish, green fish entree. The portion was very generous, but the sauces were "meh." I did like the pickled carrots and cabbage (?) on the side, but could've used a lot more of that versus what was on the plate. Service was good. So not a bad experience at all, but I usually feel a degree of delight at Amuse, and it just didn't happen this time around. I'll be back, though.

The efficient and friendly waitress brought us what she said was hot bread. It was not hot or warm. It was focaccia and tasted like pizza. It was OK. I got the chicken tinga sandwich. It was over twenty dollars. It came seemingly on a hamburger bun, looked like BBQ chicken (shredded) which I expected and was fine. It was supposed to have pickled onions on it, which it did not have. I asked for the Suiza sauce on the side. It came with a large portion of various lettuces. The sandwich was extremely overpriced. It was smallish, which is OK. It tasted OK, reminded me of Texas Pete. I did not like the Suiza sauce when I tasted it, so I'm glad it was on the side. I took half home to give to another family member- it was not worth eating the whole thing. The accompanying greens were horrible, I could not eat them. I don't know if it was the dressing on them or that the greens were old and therefore bitter (I have eaten this mix before at home and have had no issue). My friend had the Little Gem Lettuce as her entree, which is listed under appetizers for $16. It was put on a large plate in what I think was supposed to be a half moon look, but it actually looked like she got a half plate of lettuce. Weird. The toppings on it were very sparse. It was horribly overpriced. She said it tasted good. I would go back and just expect over-priced, not very good food because the setting is lovely. You look out over the museum grounds, and the feeling inside is light and airy. The restaurant is attractive and the staff is attentive. It was a positive experience even though the food was not good.

I’ve been going to Amuse since it’s inception and prior to that the members dining room. I’m 70 and I used to always bring visitors and friends. Over the past year or two, the food has changed. I think the menu needs a few more selections that are not so complex with flavors and out of the ordinary regional foods. in other words, can you offer a couple of simpler balanced meals for people that are entertaining friends in a beautiful environment? and not see King in epicurean experience? Could you offer one dish that is a regional favorite? A salad that is balanced with protein and regional vegetables? Alternatives to crabcakes on the appetizers and entrées. Just some suggestions. I always find something to eat, but 10 years ago, I wanted to order everything on the menu

Don’t mean to be critical but Waiter seemed new and unsure of himself. Otherwise he was very nice. Food was very good overall. French fries are usually wonderful, yesterday, they looked as though they had been sitting around. Flavor was good. Thanks for asking.
