Open , airy and stress free. A perfect first post covid outing. I was pleasantly surprised and felt at ease and protected. Excellent Easter.
We were there for Easter brunch this time but we go there for breakfast multiple times a month. We knew that they would charge $99/adult on Easter. However I did t expect the selection to be so limited and amount of food served so little. This ended up being a rip off considering the price paid for food, the food served and the gratuity added.
Patio is lovely. Food is good. Service is friendly and prompt.
It is a beautiful restaurant in a beautiful property but the restaurant is very poorly managed, the food was ok but for should be exceptional given the prices, the service was slow in general and the waitress was not very attentive.
I would not be coming back here anytime soon.
Fantastic experience! Open table booked my reservation at 2pm. They actually close at 2pm, thankfully, we arrived early and they still have us the best service ever!! The French toast was to die for and the ambience was like a fairy tale! We sat outside for brunch and it couldn’t have been a better experience!
Food and atmosphere were delightful as always. Service was subpar this time. We had to ask for the table to be cleared twice, water and champagne glasses sat empty for long periods of time before bring refilled. Birthday was not acknowledged.
Great ambiance, limited food and seating due to COVID but overall a delightful mea.
We had a birthday celebration here, we had a lovely time, all the servers were kind and helpful. I would highly recommend it!
I thought the lunch menu could have more salad choices but the food was excellent and so was the service in a beautiful setting.
Excellent food and atmosphere. Service was great and they honored a birthday with a nice dessert. It is a bit pricey.
Great ambiance and good food. Definitely pricey but if you value the view for a special occasion it could be worth it!
Horrible experience won’t be back.
Great food and beautiful setting. Waiters are friendly and attentive.
Good and beverage managers were checking on each table, amazing dotting outside on the lawn and listening to live music. I’m pretty sure I’ll be there every week now, take my money
Totally lives up to its reputation- great dining experience.
Delicious meal to celebrate my fiancé's birthday. Exceptional service, not a bite left on our plates. Their outdoor space due to covid is beautiful - fire pits and heaters all over the place. Strongly recommend.
Food came about 45 mins late, it was done in a rush, nothing special except the reputation of the place... not likely to return.
Vlad we love you
Always a pleasure eating here. Staff is alway so nice. Food is excellent.
We celebrated my wife’s birthday, the place and service were great, but the food was not out of the ordinary.
The outdoor dining area was beautiful.
The food was horrible. Shocking for a 5
Star establishment! The food was very pricey and that’s ok if it’s good. But sadly this wasn’t the case.
We have been going to the Grand Del Mar since it opened. Its an amazingly beautiful place. In its early days it was hard to beat this place. The new owners have not done justice to the place. Prices have gone up and quality has gone down and its not just due to C19.
The old time staff people that are still around are still as great as they were under the original owner.
Birthday .
Everything was great , very tasty, high quality food and wine
food menu is now short, and so is the single malt whiskey list. Not a big deal, but would suggest people look at the menu online first, since only 4-5 entrees and no specials. But so many kids and people running around without masks. Felt very vulnerable because of that. We are immune challenged, and selected a restaurant with outdoor seating, but having everyone walk to our table and run around the table is not appreciated. Would not return until after Covid. Good service from the friendly staff (who do wear masks).
Amaya at the Grand Del Mar has created an oasis with a welcoming environment! We escaped from the pandemic into an excellent outside dining experience which was first class in every way. The food was fresh and perfectly prepared including the oysters from Washington State. Every morsel was full of flavor from the beet salad to the exquisitely prepared scallops. Thank you!
Very nice place to relax and have an outdoor dining experience. Service was great and staff were very courteous. Food was also very good and tasty. Will go there again.
Terrific service, delicious and beautifully plated lunches in an ideal setting.
The hotel is spectacular. Unfortunately the food and service didn't match. It was a good thing we were in good company, where most of our attention was not on the food and service.
We had a reservation toward the end of the evening. The restaurant clearly made us feel that they were closing and we were in the way of that. They were loudly moving chairs and closing up while we were eating.
Our server was polite and pleasant however she was more interested in finishing her shift rather than our experience. For example, we were asked if we wanted more house bread when our entrees arrived, but it was never brought out - until we asked two more times. At that point they brought our pretzel bread. Our drinks came out very late after we had finished appetizers.
We were celebrating a birthday and they made no mention of it or even asked if it was a special event - even though when we checked in the hotel front desk had noted that we had a dinner reservation to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Earlier in the evening, they had brought out a candle for someone else’s birthday and walked right by our table.
Definitely not a 5 star experience or even a 3 star experience. Definitely not what you would expect in a hotel of this caliber. If a restaurant is open until a certain time, they should deliver a similar experience whether it is early in the evening or later.
What an amazing team of personable friendly professional servers at breakfast: Besim, Hamid, Vladimir, Ryan, hostess Lyra, Sigifredo, Daryll... We really enjoyed talking with all of them. They enjoy people and each other. Best service we've had all week in San Diego area. Great food. The Californian: includes juice, coffee, great potatoes, eggs, meat, pastry basket. Lovely atmosphere. Thanks to Cory Witt, they had a special unexpected acknowledgment of my birthday. The gold standard for service and food.
I took my niece for her college graduation. I let them know about the occasion ahead of time and they presented a nice plate of chocolates and congratulations written in chocolate, complimentary! My niece loved the burger and fries and my Cobb salad was delicious! Great value, ambience, location and service! Highly recommend.
The speed of serving is a bit slow, but the quality of the dishes were worthy of waiting.
Prefix menu for V-Day was not nearly worth the cost and the wine pairings were not paired nicely. Menu has gone down hill dramatically since bought by Fairmont.
A big difference from years past and not for the better. Service staff was friendly and sincere but
not well trained in the basics, like how to deliver a dish to the table smoothly. A very young trainee
could barely manage placement of the large slate plate holding the first course of tiny caviar tartlets.
The main waiter failed to keep an eye on our table so that when there was a long delay pouring our
designated wine pairing for one course, it arrived finally too late to enjoy with that course. Valentine's day dinner is busy but this was not professional service. Importantly, there were no tablecloths on the tables,
giving the entire room the look of a middle scale neighborhood restaurant, not a world class hotel dining room. I've dined at Amaya many times over the years and don't remember tables without cloths.
The food was generally good but not memorable, especially the seafood risotto which was bland to a fault. Interestingly, the Kerr Vinyards wine pairings were outstanding.
Amaya is not meant to be like Addison, I understand, but this wasn't remotely the experience I've had here in the past and given the prices for a special occasion Prix Fixe dinner, not suitable. I wonder if the supervisory staff has turned over too much since the Fairmont took over. The wait staff were clearly not ready for prime time.
I think the food choices are pretty simple for the price that we paid for. Good thing it’s in a really nice hotel.
Most of their guests are staying at the resort. This was a beautiful restaurant for a romantic date night! Kid friendly, perfect portion sizes and the waiters recommendations were on point!
They did a wonderful job of making Dad feel special on his birthday! Thank you!
Went here for a night out. Won’t go back. Nothing special. Limited menus. $$$$$
First time dining here despite living nearby for years. We were very excited to try it out but left a little disappointed. We were seated promptly and provided menus but then waited a very long time to place our order. After waiting we tried to flag someone down, even resorting to raising my hand without success. Finally got the attention of someone and ultimately our server. Server was extremely nice when he was present. Food was ok, middle of the road, nothing offensive, nothing spectacular, all dishes tasted better after we added a bit of salt. Had the beet salad, sea bass, duck (chewy). Dessert was the highlight (pistachio nougat). Cocktails were fine. May give it another try in the future, but for now there are too many other solid restaurants in the area at the same or lower price point.
Always a lovely location and ambiance didnt seem to be a wide enough list or choices for the
lunch menu really but what we ordered was good and service just great thank you
