I was asked to pick a nice spot for a birthday celebration. I decided to try Amaya for our party of 4 adults. It had been a couple years since I have dined there and I was looking forward to returning. The food and service was good. However, the evening turned really nasty when a table with a large family arrived midway through our meal. Not sure what set it off but the kids started fussing and I mean full on screaming and crying. I have grandkids so I understand this happens but this turned to the ridiculous. The kids were not the worst part - the mother started yelling hysterically. This went on and on and on. I guess there was not much management could do as they were obviously guests of the hotel. Some acknowledgement by the management would have been appreciated but such was not the case.
I don’t mind paying for a nice meal in an elegant setting but for $400 it was not an experience I will repeat anytime soon.
We had brunch on Saturday and ordered the Grand Brunch for two. The food was good, but not amazing. The bloody marys and mimosa were good as well.
The service and the setting were wonderful, and the weather was great.
We had a great experience (food and service) here last summer. Ryan /our server was great. Can't say enough about him. Made it a fun dining out. Please send him our thanks. Love the outside terrace also . Had the filet mignon. Not quite as tasty and melt in your mouth as last dining . Fingerling potatoes not as good also. They were a reason we wanted to return. My husband had the Mahi . Really enjoyed it. Will give it another try when we return for another stay at the Hotel.
Decent hotel restaurant with expected hotel premium pricing of all items. Nice that they also honour the kids eat for 50% off of any regular menu item for hotel guests. Food was good, but in some cases portion sized could have been more generous.
The food was average. There are better options in San Diego county available. If I spend a lot of money for food, I expect superior quality and that did not happen.
Everything was lovely
We always love Amaya! The ambience, quality of food and service was great! It’s always a pleasure to dine here.
Terrific food and service. Unfortunately they intentionally put items such as a $16 pizza on the menu which attracts a casual family crowd. Not really consistent with what one expects in a fine dining restaurant serving a $62 filet mignon or a $170 Tomahawk steak or $69 shellfish appetizer plate. Suggest they use a separate dining area for those groups as it ruined what would have been a terrific ambiance and dining experience.
Dylber in the bar is such a great host. Welcoming, knows the wines, eager to accommodate (serving from both the bar and dining room menus). The best.
While our food was very good the service was horrible!! When your service is bad it taints everything else.
Excellent from start to finish.
Good food along with great service. Very nice decor and beautiful surroundings but expensive.
Dined here for breakfast twice during a recent three-night stay at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar. Excellent blend of great service (genuine, friendly, and professional), delicious breakfast, and beautiful setting. Really enjoyed some of the Mexican-influences in the menu on some of the dishes and are looking forward to our next visit!
We had an awesome waiter
My husband & I wanted to have steak. We live close by, I got what I wanted; steak, puree potatoes and honey glazed carrots! LOVE the pretzel bread. Great service Ignacio, thank you. Ryan nice to see you!
Very good friends of ours gave us a Christmas gift certificate and, after looking at the menu, decided the best value was to go for brunch. My husband had the porchetta sandwich and I had the Cobb salad with chicken. Both of our dishes tasted very good. The pretzel rolls they brought out before the meal were tasty but still cold in the center and after seating us, we never saw our waitress nor did anyone come and check on us or ask if we needed anything until we were finished our meal. The restaurant is very beautiful inside and has a lovely patio for outside dining. This is a restaurant that should be experienced once but I feel there are other restaurants where a really good meal can be had at a better price.
The service was haphazard. It seemed as if the resturant was very short staffed.
Two persons in group received stone cold food another person’s food was tepid.
Very nice place for my mother and brother! We enjoyed our dinner very much. My mother really loved it. I have to bring her back for more dinners!
Love Vladimir service. My friends were very happy to see this place. Service was superb. Pretzel bread was so fattening but good!! 😜 the cheese board is a must.
Unfortunately the seafood pasta was swimming in oil so greasy and cold I couldn’t eat it..
It was a special occasion so I didn’t want to ruin the moment so I went home hungry on my birthday..!!
The dinner was great, food was great, and the service was outstanding.
I thought the food was good, not great. The service was excellent and the cost was very high.
We like to go to Amaya for Sunday brunch or coffee with friends. Lové ambiance and cousine. Stuff is very courteous and attentive, definitely recommend!
The Fairmont Grant Hyatt is an exquisite hotel, dining and food impeccable! We enjoy celebrating special occasions there.
We came 12/28 for a Birthday Party... it's expensive but my friends wanted to see the Holiday Decorations that's why we selected this expensive place. To our surprise they took down all the Holiday decor the day after Christmas but did not tell anyone! Disappointing.... we came early to take time to tour the facilities... but instead went to lunch but since it did not start till 11:30 we had to wait..... then we got burnt prezel bread which we sent back when we could find our waiter...tiny little butter, so we had to wait to find our waiter to get more, then got salads with dressing on the side, but 2 of the 4 had it poured on, one missing dressing and it was not on the side so she again had to wait to find the waiter..he had to run somewhere and showed up when the rest of us were 1/2 done! Disappointing all around... won't be back... Just 4 salads for $$, it was sub par service because they did not have enough staff!
I had $350 in gift certificates and we planned a nice Holiday dinner for our family. Everything was overpriced, the service was extremely slow, we waited over an hour for our entrees to arrive. And the bill for 6 drinks, 4 entrees and 2 appetizers was $80 over the $350. We arrived at
5pm and we left at 8:30pm. Our waitress Stella and the bus servicers were excellent. The kitchen needs a 5 star chef and a full staff so the hour long wait is corrected.
Besim & Vladimire are always excellent and remember me which makes for a very nice time.
Very gracious and willing to go out of their way to make it a pleasant lunch experience.
It was the holidays. A greeting would be nice. The staff was efficient but cold. We were directed to the stairs to Amaya and not informed that there was elevator access. The valet had apparently just finished a cigarette when he got
My car and I could smell it in the vehicle.
They overcharged my credit card by $5.00. Otherwise a most enjoyable evening.
The service is so so horrific it’s absolutely astounding. Drinks are impossible to get, dinner mistakes, slow, no attention. The waiter we had is under qualified to work at Burger King. How disappointing in every way.
The hotel is beautiful, and the Amaya restaurant has very attentive staff and management; after a visit at Amaya in December 2017 when things weren’t as “Fairmont perfect” as expected, today we tried Amaya again, for my mom’s birthday, and we had a wonderful time.
Everything was perfect, down to the smallest detail, and so representative of Fairmont’s culture of excellence in customer service.
Our server Adan was very professional, helpful, and attentive, he made excellent coffee, took the order impeccably well, and made sure our entire experience was wonderful to the last detail.
The hotel was as beautiful as ever, with tasteful decor and amazing flower arrangements. It makes your heart happy to be in such lovely surroundings.
We are thrilled to see that Fairmont Grand Del Mar and Amaya’s management pay attention to, and care enough about, customers’ comments, to make things right for their customers. It truly shows that the Fairmont culture of excellence and high quality customer care are more alive than ever!!
Great food, ambiance, and attentive service
We always enjoy visiting your hotel and restaurant. It is so beautiful there and they treat us and in first class manner at the restaurant. A special treat was the hotel being decorated for Christmas, thank you very much.
Wonderful food, wonderful service. The French toast was amazing! The hotel and restaurant looked magical for the holidays.
Thanksgiving was a disaster. It took an HOUR AND A HALF to receive the first course. The service was abysmal. Wait staff seemed flustered. No one stopped by to explain what was happening.
It was $85/person, and we've had better service at Dennys.
Dined for Thanksgiving and it was very disappointing. Have dined here before with no issues. After over an hour of waiting for first course the starter salad came out as a large Lobster cobb entree size salad and was not as listed on the menu. (?) It was a set menu so why so many delays--so bazaar? Had to ask for water to be refilled, spoon for soup, bread was stale, as others have mentioned service was really bad and restaurant was not prepared for Thanksgiving. They just kept blaming it on the kitchen/ chef. By the time we ate there were very few tables left so not sure why service was so bad or why they were backed up. We did however enjoy being outside by the fire.
We came for thanksgiving. Terrific venue. Meal was very good, but not amazing. White turkey was a tad dry, but soup / salad was very good, desserts were solid.
This was Thanksgiving dinner - 4:00 PM res and not crowded at arrival. Place is sumptuous and the price was high. Oddly the first courses and the deserts were wonderful. There were three of us and we tried them all. Uniformly great.
But the turkey entree was very poorly prepared. A couple of odd chunks of not very warm turkey, with skimpy, watery gravy. A few coolish Brussels sprouts and a scoop of plain mashed potatoes. Had to ask (when the waiter finally made it around) for more gravy which took awhile and then we got a small boat, half full and lukewarm. You would think the restaurant (especially such a highly rated place) would try to do something nice for the holiday. At $100 a person, this was a disappointment.
Indifferent service - not terrible but not great.
After some business days, the target was to finalize our visit to San Diego with having and enjoying a good meal in a quiet, nice decorated, discrete environment , with a friendly professional staff, ..
Regards from Belgium.
