First time trying some upscale dining in Greencastle for our anniversary. Almost Home was actually a great place. We started with the Bruschetta, she the had the Cesar Salad and I had the roasted red pepper and Gouda soup. She had the salmon stuffed with crab meat with sweet potatoes and vegetables. I had the 8oz filet with mashed potatoes and vegetables. The meals were quite tasty. The fish was cooked just right and my steak was perfect. The portions were a bit larger than expected. We ended up taking a slice of Black Forest cake with us as we were too full for dessert.
The restaurant was not busy, which made it easy to talk. The wait staff were helpful and the entire set up of the three buildings was interesting. Tall people should avoid the booth seating.
Once again it was an amazing dinner with great service. First fridays are great because the community has things to do right outside.
Good food, decent wine, timing fine. All in all a good experience.
We had reservations for Mother's Day and had a booth directly across from the buffet tables. This was unsatisfactory.
We requested to be moved to one of the other rooms but was told no.
The food was good and our server/waitress was outstanding.
Very good dinner for a small town.....or big city. All meals (5) were prepared well with good presentation. Many choices from salads to sandwiches and entrees.....
Place was empty and it took over 20 minutes to get 4 glasses of wine. Second time we ordered later in the evening also took 20 minutes to get the wine. Someone had the salad with grilled chicken on top, chicken was cold. Small filet was $ 35.00. Saturday night and the place was almost empty, obvious something is wrong.
we had been there in the past and had been very happy with it. Manager said they were understaffed with only 1 bar tender, how long does it take to pour 4 glasses of wine ? we will not be back
Our 10 to 12 member group gets together 3 or 4 times a year. Often, even good restaurants drop below expectations with that large of a party. That was not the case with Almost Home. Food was good, service was excellent and desserts were divine.
First time there, and we truly enjoyed ourselves!!
I hadn’t been there for about 10 years as I live out of town. It was a favorite of mine and wanted to share with my husband, he is impressed and definitely will be returning! Everyone was very friendly and made us feel very welcome. We were staying at a state park so was a drive to get there but worth it.
Very good food. Service was great. All around good experience.
Food hot and tasty. Waitstaff friendly and efficient. Ambiance warm and friendly.
We have eaten here many times in the past, and everything is always great! We will come again.
Atmosphere could be very good, but we sat near the door which leads to the bar where a live band was playing. Music was loud and ruined the dining experience. Food was mediocre at best. Drink was good! Overpriced and very disappointed. Probably won't return unless someone reaches out to me with explanation
Great service, beautiful seasonal decor, good food. Will be back!
The restaurant is very lovely and nostalgic feeling. There's great ambiance.
Our service was extremely poor. We were there more than an hour and a half due to the slow service... drinks were never refilled, had to ask for bread for the table, then had to ask for bread plates. I was served a grilled chicken dish in a bowl, which made for interesting cutting of the meat... Server never brought us our check, so had to go to hostess station, so we could pay and leave...
We were visiting my daughter at DePauw, and this was a perfect spot for a family dinner. Great service (wish I could remember our waitress' name), delicious meal.
We always enjoy Almost Home. Wonderful food and a great building.
We have been there many times before but Sunday we were there 20 minutes before they took our lunch order and an hour before we got served. People came in after us and were leaving before we even got served. All the server would say was the owner was in the kitchen that day and was sorry and if we came back we could have a complimentary desssert. Having been in the restaurant business I probably would have offered to comp the meal. We don't ever complain and always give restaurants the benefit of the doubt but this was not a pleasant experience
Took my mom and two friends here for lunch. They enjoyed the environment, food, and desserts. They said they would come here again next time they are in the area.
They are maintaining the good service and excellent food. Will be back.
I visit Greencastle every year at this time. I always make time to have dinner at Almost Home. It's that good. They have trimmed their menu a bit, but what's on it is tasty and served beautifully. The service staff are super super friendly and they know their stuff. I had the mile-high meatloaf, and I thought I would not be able to eat all of it. Lo and behold, my plate was clean! It was exactly like Mom used to make. And the desserts are always interesting. They have a new cake, whose name I can't remember, but it is basically like a cinnamon coffee cake with rich frosting. If I lived there, I would honestly eat that every. single. day. Mouth-watering! Prices are reasonable, wines are delicious. I can't say enough good things about this restaurant! Well-done, Greencastle!
Service was second to none. Food was delicious and well-portioned. The crab cakes were superb and a great appetizer. The location is ideal.
Back for a college reunion and delighted to find such a treasure in Greencastle! The menu was interesting and the food quite tasty. Hooray!
12 of us, ATO Brothers, had dinner Friday night of Alumni weekend. It was our 50th reunion.
We love this place. The food was outstanding excellent value. He will be on. And the service was perfect.
A very pleasant lunch for our group from California. Highly recommended just a few miles off Interstate 70.
Visit on Mother's Day was lovely. Anita was great, food was excellent. I love dining at Almost Home!
Good food and service are continuously great. Each time we go we find it equally good. Absolutely a good place to go to.
Absolutely love this restaurant! They are friendly, attentive and polite! The food is always fantastic!
The whole experience was great. Looking forward to another tasting.
Great service, variety of food and desserts top rate.
Have been going here for years...love this place! It has 3 distinct personalities as part is the original tea room, then the addition of the middle section that I love with the exposed brick, has a more romantic aura to it & lastly, the Swizzle Stick bar, where you can sit at the bar & watch sports or listen to live music almost every night of the week...I consider Almost Home a local hot spot/gem/treasure in our small town.
Lovely meal with excellent service. Coffee and drinks kept filled and our meals were excellent with plenty of food. Some take home boxes needed. Food was a bit slow coming out but it was worth wIting for. I'd recommend to a friend and loved the fries
Almost Home is a tea house style restaurant and, as such, has tea featured but has good coffee and a wine selection.
In the past, we selected from the sandwich menu but this trip, we opted for salads. I had their signature harvest salad and it was quite good. My wife had a taco salad which was a special that day and not normally on the menu. She thought the meat was not adequately seasoned but we do like things on the picante side.
Most recently went to a Spanish theme wine dinner. These wine dinners are so much fun and very reasonably priced. The chef is excellent and very creative. The wines are always explained by the Sommelier. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
A great experience & good food / service.
AS always good food good service, A menu that anybody should find something they like
Food was excellent, but they did not have enough servers for the number of patrons.
They were moderately busy with a couple of large groups, but a good number of empty tables too. Service was so slow, I nearly did something I have never done, walk out before my meal came. My server was most apologetic and took $20 off my bill which I greatly appreciated. I ordered a rib eye which was overcooked and tough, to the point where I couldn't eat about half of it. Didn't dare ask to have it redone. The place is highly rated and I suspect is a good place, but my experience was a total disaster.
Really good stuff. Talapia was awesome as always. Friendly atmosphere. Out of towners but always take guest to Almost Home.
