Alma De Cuba Ratings and Reviews
Yummy food. Started with the coconut ceviche. It has beautiful chunks of lobster and shrimp. I had a salmon and quinoa dish that was outstanding. My colleague enjoyed her pork dish. We had a side of tostones with a bright limey vinegrette. Food was delicious, ambiance was very nice. Mojito went down too easily. My only negative comment was the staff was almost too attentive and several people stopped by to make sure we were good. There are worse problems than being too attentive. Overall highly recommend.
We like Alma de Cuba. We've been several times. I'll only mention 2 cautions if you know and like Caribbean/Latin food. While the guacamole was good, it doesn't quite taste like guacamole--you can hardly taste the avocados. Second, I usually expect a Cuban style yucca to be a little heavier on the garlic, maybe too heavy (which is how I like it), but it wasn't as garlic flavored as I'd expect--although perhaps their version might taste a little more palatable to more people. The food here is great. I would encourage everyone to go. I would also encourage you to consider Mixto if Latin food is your thing.
This is my 2nd time there for dining. We were served burnt rice and a lot of it with the Imperial Chicken. The seafood I ordered had ZERO flavor with no lemon. All seafood comes with lemon, right. The soda (coke) I had was flat. The ambiance is stellar, but the food has taken a downturn.
Our family of five had a terrific meal to celebrate our youngest daughter's birthday. Our server was very knowledgeable and accommodating by suggesting vegetarian and dairy free options. The tuna and skirt steak were delicious. Our daughters loved the black bean soup and seafood ceviche. The chocolate cigar was a fun dessert complete with matches that burned!
We have dined at Alma De Cuba many times over the years and have always loved it - this time was to celebrate our wedding anniversary and the food and service were amazing, plus we were surprised with champagne and dessert! We really had a fantastic time, and now I always say that ceviche is favorite type of food because of the richness and complexity of flavor in each of the different dishes - thanks for a great night!
Celebrated my loves 50th bday. Our meal was delicious. Our server was attentive and well versed on the menu. Our courses arrived to the table in timely and well paced fashion. GREAT mojitos, there were several options. Ambience & music were spot on. Full house that night yet able to have engaging conversation. Looking forward to our return.
Food was average to slightly above average depending on the dish. Appetizers were expensive, but entrees seemed to be fair. Drinks were fairly expensive ($14 for a mojito with very little alcohol in it??? C'mon!)
Seems to be the trend with a lot of Stephen Starr restaurants these days. Food has fallen off a little over the years, price has risen a bit, meanwhile there are a ton of amazing choices throughout the city that I would recommend first.
I'm certainly not rushing to go back, but I'm sure I'll give it another chance.
Not good Cuban food, not by a long shot. It’s like they are trying too hard to be chi-chi. Rice especially not appetizing—soggy, bland, blah. Poor cuts of meat, not good quality and not prepared well. Too much sweet stuff in savory dishes. Black beans not tasty. Yucca is heavily deep fried, not at all good. Needs better quality ingredients and simpler, more authentic preparation. It’s not that hard. Any regular family Cuban restaurant in Miami serves far better food at a fraction of the price. Very expensive here. However, our waiter was excellent, very quick and attentive. The entree portions are good-sized, I’ll give them that. I would not go back to Alma, nor can I recommend it. It’s a shame, because I was so looking forward to a good Cuban meal here. Heavily disappointed!
The service is always great. Anything on the menu is great. The empanadas is new to the menu. I had the crab empanadas. The pastry shell was light and the crab was moist. I also had the black bean soup. I enoyed how they put rice balls in the soup. My boyfriend had the steak which is never a disappointment.
With no Latin blood in my veins, I sure as heck love Latin food! This place was LEGIT! it is pricy, but you pay for what you get. Thomas was an unbelievable waiter that was able to tailor dinner to dietary needs (along with the accomplished chef). Cuban empanadas over the carnitas, Vaca and mufungo were excellent! Plan on coming back.
On Saturday, October 21, my husband and I dined here to celebrate 5 years of dating. This restaurant was recommended to us by a friend. We were seated on the 2nd floor and we had a great host and server. Our server recommended the Thai Coconut ceviche and it was such an amazing choice. So fresh and light. Then I got the scallops and my husband got the short rib ropa vieja. Upon arrival of my meal, I was surprised by there only being 3 scallops. Every time I've ordered scallops, there have always been at least 4/5 but then I started to eat the crab, corn, and ham quinoa and realized why there were only 3. You fill up on the quinoa. Both were very good choices. To complete our meal, we had the chocolate cigar. We loved the presentation. Also, since Alma de Cuba is known for their mojitos, I had a mango mojito. Very tasty.
Dark, sexy ambiance on Phillys restaurant row. My favorite appetizer, stuffed dates, the fruit , not the person with me! Cuban salad with creamy yogurt dressing, yummy. Then a melt in your mouth portion of skirt steak topped with red peppers and served , with white rice and black beans, a little side of avocado and tomatoes with vinaigrette. Then fried plantains. This was really good.
Went there for a special night out. Had tremendous food, both the Ceviche and short ribs were fantastic. The wine selection was good as well. We has someone with dietary restrictions in our party and received alot of attention to work out the right food for her and all of the service was excellent.
We come here often. First time we were seated at a table on first level. Bar area. Would not do that again. We had reservations but were seated there any way in the back by the swinging doors. Very loud. Very dark. Took forever to get our entres.
Food was excellent though. Will be back but won’t take a table on first level again unless with a large crowd
We have been going to Alma de Cuba for special occasions, such as birthdays, for several years. This time, it was a slight disappointment, because even through I requested a birthday acknowledgement for our guest with dessert, it was overlooked. We had an additional guest, a first-timer from Spain, with us, as well. She attempted several times to speak to the waitstaff regarding the menu selections, and they apparently speak little, if any Spanish. Another disappointment for our table. When I brought this up at the end of our meal, with the manager, as we were exiting the establishment, she asked if we ordered dessert - as if it were our fault and that was a requirement to receive a Happy Birthday greeting (we had ordered dessert regardless). Overall, the food was satisfactory, but a little extra touch in customer service would have made a decent meal into a special occasion. I will think twice before returning.
Alma de Cuba exceeded my (high) expectations! The menu was varied and there were also unusually and appetizing specials. I had the dinner special which was excellent. For appetizers my friends and I shared 3 different ceviches. I usually can't do ceviche because of a sensitivity to cilantro but our server,David, was pointed out which could be done without that herb. David was professional and knowledgeable. He recommendations were perfect for us. The desserts were incredible - chocolate cigar with cookie matches that were lit and spiced chocolate chili custard with churro bites!!! This is definitely my new favorite restaurant
Alma De Cuba is always a pleaser! Came here with my Girlfriend 11 years ago for our 1st date so I decided to be sentimental and come here again for her birthday. Christina had the filet mignon which was absolutely to die for I had the bronzino which was already filleted which was a plus and my daughter had the skirt steak. And although Christina did not get any dessert the server brought her a pumpkin ice cream, complimentary of course, 8with a candle so that we could all sing Happy Birthday. All in all it was a good experience as it always is I think I will be going back here much sooner than later 11 years is just too long.
