My new favorite in Savannah !
Wonderful experience. Food was superb! Our server, David, was so attentive to our party of four. Definitely will be back here!!
Entrees were great; he had the Hobo and I had the scallops. Apps were nothing special [gator fritters and frog legs]. Dessert was to die for: banana beignets! Our major complaint would be the hard wooden chairs. They were extremely uncomfortable for a lengthy meal. Our server [David] was wonderful, attentive and informative!
It was a most excellent dining experience. Except for being told upon arrival ten minutes early that no tables were - available or ready - and could we please wait in the lounge. At least four tables - including the one at which we were eventually seated - were empty when we were told this. We obediently went over to the lounge and waited. My guess is that we were sent to the lounge so we would purchase cocktails while waiting.
Except for this little bit o' dissonance, the evening was excellent.
The cocktails were tasty, by the way...
Service and food both spectacular in a beautiful setting real southern hospitality
Drinks great. Appetizers great. Entree great. Server was excellent. Ambience excellent. Nothing left to say.
Great example of Cajun/Creole cooking. Everything was delicious, from the boudin to the shrimp and grits to the authentic gumbo.
Tasty gumbo, hearty portions in a cozy setting. All of our food was delicious! Order the Oysters à la Soul!
Ryan was great, he was very knowledgeable about the food
Really high quality food. We really enjoyed our dinner and were conscious of how they must have eschewed traditional serving zones to give each table the sense that they were being individually attended to.
Our dinner was amazing. Portions were small, Great for a special occasion. Our first wedding anniversary, and we let them know ahead of time and they had a super cute dessert ready for us with our name on it!
Dined at Alligator Soul while stopping over in Savannah for a brief visit on our way back home. Everything was beautifully presented and delicious. Highly recommend.
The food was AMAZING!!! Creative blends of flavors and our waiter Scottie was FANTASTIC!! Very knowledgeable of the menu, super friendly and attentive!! We have already recommended this restaurant to several friends and will definitely be back!!
Wonderful menu with excellent service by Ryan. Good cocktails and a relaxing time to dine. Always enjoy our meal and dining experience here. They always make you feel as if you were the only ones dining.
There are not enough superlative words to describe this meal. David, our server, was phenomenal; efficient, gracious, helpful, and charming. The food, oh my God, was fantastic. Alligator fritters, soft shelled crab, salad, oysters a la soul, and venison: absolutely perfect. Banana dessert, wow. This has zoomed to my #1 spot. I am a total foodie and this is the place to eat !
What a hidden gem. The food was delicious and carefully prepared. Everything is farm to table and the hand-made drinks are stellar.
Too expensive for the food. I ordered shrimp and grits. It was extremely bland. My husband ordered a steak. At which he was never asked how he liked it cooked. It also lacked flavor. Service was poor. We had a late reservation and I could tell we were moreso of a bother to them. There are too many wonderful restaurants in Savannah to pay the prices alligator soul charged. Especially for bland food that I could whip up easily myself at home
Most of the food was good and hot. Some of the food was not good and not hot.
Our waiter was very nice-available but not overly so-the food was nicely balanced, high quality and hadinteresting flavors
Great dinner. The Service and the meal were excellent. Very good, unique menu.
Waiter was amazing. We were definitely not neglected. Food came out the right temperature. Read some of the reviews and ordered my steak medium rare and it came out medium l, which is perfect for me. Ordered the meat tray and it was pretty good considering I rarely try new things. I've learned that I'm not ready to enjoy bone marrow but my friend ate some and she loved it. Dinner was quiet but we got there pretty early. I cannot remember what cocktail I had but I hated it. Had a chunk of ginger in it and was too hot for my taste. Switched to coffee and that was pretty good
Food was fantastic! Service was attentive and not overbearing.
An absolute Savannah gem! From the shrimp and grits, to the Hillbo beef, everything was superb. This is not an expensive place, but definitely worth a visit.
Our server was amazing, spoke fluently about the menu and the favorites, and made our dining experience more special than we expected. My spouse and I dined with my cousin to quietly celebrate one of our favorite restaurants but also my cousin’s birthday and her first time here. We had the pheasant and shrimp and grits. The potatoes and carrots with the pheasant was seasoned so well! The shrimp and grits were perfect; not soupy at all. The candied bacon (I think was the small plate) was to die for. Must get! I thoroughly enjoyed the sunshine salad as an appetizer/small plate. We love Alligator Soul and recommend everyone try this restaurant at least one time while in Savannah!
The food and atmosphere are outstanding. My wife and I think this the best restaurant in Savannah.
We were looking forward to eating at Alligator Soul for two weeks. Our reservation was for 6:45 PM on Friday April 12th, 2019. The menu on line shows a number of Gluten free Options. Which is important when you do actually suffer from Celiacs Disease. Spoke to the waiter when we sat down and explained "Must Be gluten free". We ordered a cocktail and then asked if the oysters could be done gluten free and he said yes. So; we ordered them.
The oysters came to the table and we looked at them and the people next to us who had been listening to our exchange with the waiter said "don't eat those they have Panko Bread Crumbs on them". They knew that because they had just had them. When we asked the waiter he said "sure they do you can just knock them off". Really what part of gluten free did you not get? He said "well you didn't specify that you wanted them gluten free".
How on earth did he miss the whole dissertation on Celiacs Disease, no gluten ten minutes before? Even the table 6 feet away knew. This is not an inexpensive place to eat. We asked for our bill and instead of saying to us or for that matter getting a manager he presented a check for the Oysters and the drinks (Which we never received). No apology for trying to kill a patron. The manager did ask us as we were leaving "is there a problem?" Well...yeah! If someone asks if a plate can be done gluten free and you order it and it comes with bread crumbs on it and your waiter says knock them off...that's a problem!
That said we paid the bill even though we did NOT eat one oyster.
Sorry that is truly the poorest excuse for a high end restaurant.
Here's a hint for the restaurant: if someone says Celiac's Disease believe them or you may be paying for a 4-5 day hospital stay.
Still so very upset about this!
Our server was very professional. The level of attention on a busy night was quite impressive. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Maybe it wasn't the most creative menu but everything was done well. I wasn't the host but I heard murmurings of being charged for bread?
When recommending or hosting, reliability is key. I've eaten here numerous times over the years and have never been dissatisfied.
I would add non-fried alligator meat to the menu. Your selection of dessert wines is very good! We made a reservation for a quiet table in the corner and were not accommodated right away. Had to wait for a suitable table.
Eclectic menu. Great seafood gumbo. Very knowledgeable staff.
First off, the service is wonderful. The wait staff know the menu and have great advice for pairings.
They definitely care about your experience here.
The food was good, but I think my expectations were so high after reading all the reviews. I had the little hilbo, and though good, not great. My partner had mahi and scallops. She said the fish was wonderful, but the scallops were under cooked. I do recommend this place, but it's not the best I've ever had as others have stated.
Our server Scotty was amazing. Great guy! And the manager checked on us as well. Great drinks, appetizer, food, and dessert.
Oor server, Ryan made our dinning experience truly exceptional. Our food was amazing, the drink recommendations were great and we will definitely be going back again very soon!
Our server was absolutely pleasant but a little green. I don’t blame him but question the training. The food was excellent and so was the atmosphere. We’ll return next time we’re in town.
Definitely a special treat. The service was the best and the food was extraordinary. If you ever feel the need to treat yourself or someone special, this is the place to take them.
Alligator Soul is a must when visiting Savannah. Our waiter was the best waiter ever, he knew the menu- gave us great recommendations and paired our dishes well with our entrees! We definitely will go back when visiting Savannah!!
