One of the most romantic restaurants in San Diego.
Always a neighborhood favorite with great food and good service
Our server Ryan was great! Alexander’s is a North Park gem. Glad to see it’s still around :-)
Due to the chilly weather on the patio, the manager asked if we would like to sit inside, which made a huge difference. Thanks to the great service we had a very enjoyable night. The food here is excellent and the ambiance (especially inside) is perfect. Thank you!
My wife and I came here for our anniversary, and Alexander's became our favorite date night spot in San Diego after our experience this evening. The food was outstanding and the service had us feeling very cared for and welcomed. We sat in the outdoor seating area, and as my wife noted, it made us feel as if we were dining at some boutique restaurant in Italy (minus the one helicopter that flew over sometime during the evening). We are definitely recommending this place to our friends!
Overall terrible experience. 240$ dinner for Valentines Day was a complete disappointment. We had a 10 pm reservation because of our schedules which the restaurant posted as an option. From the minute we walked in, we were being rushed. We purchased a 60$ BOTTLE of wine and the restaurant was offering a 4 course prix fix menu for 75$ each. The server rushed us from course to course starting with the appetizer. We wanted to have the app and enjoy the wine a bit. Finally we gave in and ordered the second course. The food was “warmed” up and far from fresh. We ate only a few bites of the second course bc it was nearly inedible. The server then came and said we must order the main course bc the kitchen was closing. We said okay and when the food arrived, each of us tried a couple bites each before we decided we were finished. I ordered the filet and she ordered the stuffed chicken pasta. The chicken was over done and cold in the middle and the mid-rare steak came rare and cold. The restaurant was cleaning around us the entire time and we were paying good money. It was an available reservation like I stated. It wasn’t like we walked in unannounced. They posted this availability. Finally when we saw the waiter again, he changed from his uniform and brought us our check in his “street clothes”. I couldn’t believe my eyes. It wasn’t worth even bringing it up to the staff at this point bc clearly service wasn’t a priority to this staff. I tipped 10% to accommodate his time but not a percent more. I tried to contact the restaurant the next day with no success. Highly suggest considering other restaurants before coming here. Unreal. Never again will I return to this restaurant.
Our server was awesome!
Food was excellent (asked for it to go). Server was attentive and friendly, and staff were great with accommodations. It was Valentines Day, and unfortunately the expediting of food took longer than expected.
Our server, Rex, was great
Great ambiance and amazing food!
Perfect spot for a nice date or fun group dining!
Over priced for what we got. I have been there on a normal night and it was extremely better. Very disappointed in service and quality of food.
We booked reservation for Valentine’s Day because we knew we enjoy the food and vibes here very much. The prefix menu was not bad but lacking our usual favorites (seafood pastas) but overall it was good for the occasion considering they must have such heavy prep for the day. Our 7pm sit down was great timing but somehow our food wasn’t cooked very well. Everyone else’s cheese plates had more fruits and items on it when ours came out empty and sad ( we were right next to another couple so it was obvious we got cheated ) and then later my medium rare filet came out way overcooked (again we were able to compare to the couple next to us and the filet was way more pink even I asked the server to send it back to check, still came out medium-well My bf had to switch dish with me) overall it was a good experience but the food issue definitely made it less perfect. Perhaps we were too early and the food prep was not ready? It’s a bummer.
Something to note is that the vibes was really great and the service was good too!
I would like to return here again for the regular crowd and hope the quality and flavor improve and that my Valentine’s Day experience was just a fluke.
We loved Alexander's. The food was great The service is attentive, but not intrusive. We'll go back. It would have been nice for Open Table to mention there would be a Prie Fixe menu.
Wasn’t a fan of the set menu.
This place never fails me! I tell everyone about it, bring many friends and we all love it! Food is delicious, the service is top notch and attentive every time. One of my favorites! in San Diego for sure
Great food, nice vibe, friendly staff. Good for groups or date night. Would recommend.
We love Alexander’s! Great service, food, wine selection, everything!
Always extraordinary food and service, our favorite Italian!
I love this restaurant so much. Food is always delicious and service is always amazing.
First time at Alexander’s! Popped in at the last minute and we were seated promptly! Food was phenomenal, restaurant is beautiful! We’ll definitely
It took forever to receive our order. We were shocked! My husband’s Vodka Bolognese noodles were tough, which means they were either over cooked or under cooked. We usually receive outstanding service and food, but not in this case. In fact one our guests ordered Scallops with Rissotto which was delivered cold and had to be returned to the kitchen to reheat.
Could have been a new waiter or just an off night but the service was very poor. They forgot that it was my wife’s birthday which was unacceptable. Too bad because the food and ambiance were pretty great.
Went for my birthday and everything was wonderful. I had the lobster ravioli and it was perfect and our server was fantastic. Happy I chose this place for my birthday this year.
its expensive so that's why I put the value at only 3 stars. The same food could be found else where for less, but the overall experience was great.
Our group of 12 bridge, food and wine enthusiasts went back to Alexander's. We were thrilled with the refinement of simple plates such as clams, muscles, pastas preparations and the quality and attention of service.
The ambience was hot and the noise level a bit high, but it was probably from our group’s enthusiasm!
I love Alexander’s, but sitting in the main indoor dining room is noisier than the room north of it. Also, I love the bread and wine and pasta. I tried the scallops and risotto this time and it was just too rich (I had to take half of it home). I’ll stick with my favorite pink penne pasta next time.
As always they have great food, wine and atmosphere!
Such good food! Such a nice place. My favorite place to come for birthdays!
We had a reservation and yet they put us at the worst table in the restaurant on the outdoor patio where it was unsheltered and very cold. While there was 1 heater and later 2 heaters, it didn’t really help because the table was in a windy area in front of the kitchen door. We asked to move inside and they said no. We asked to move to a more sheltered table outside that was empty and stayed empty the entire time we were there and they said no because it could accommodate 6 people and we were a party of 3. We have had good experiences at Alexander’s before and were very disappointed by our poor treatment. There was no excuse for not seating us at least at the empty sheltered table on the patio.
Great romantic place to dine. Love the pasta special and $2 wine every Tuesday. Mondays they have a pizza special which is also good.
I loved the ambience of this northern Italian restaurant - formal but not stiff and chic but friendly. Great choice for a special evening. Our waiter Justin was excellent and I loved that Chimay Triple (White) was on the menu - excellent beer choice. The bad: I ordered the seafood pasta special and it was atrocious. It was as if the chef dumped a bottle of cream and butter on top of linguine with shrimp and scallops. It tasted like Chalk and looked like a bowl of liquid chalk. Seafood hard to spot. There was no other topping of any kind and I couldn't eat it. I should have sent it back, but I"m too polite and don't like making a scene. This needed a subtle, small amount of sauce with white wine and a tablespoon of cream to make a great Alfredo plus some other flavorings (herbs, garlic, crunchy veggies, etc). It was the worst entree I've had in a major restaurant in a long time. My companions ordered off the menu: The Walnut gorgonzola veggie pasta looked great as did the pink peppercorn pasta with peas and added sausage. I know they can do a great job. I would stick with their traditional menu and most popular dishes.
Really great place with great food and service
It was a great experience! The food, service and atmosphere was outstanding!
Steven our server was great!
The table we sat was great!
Thank you for providing a great experience !
We have a new “go-too” Italian Restaurant in SD.
Lovely Italian place on the corner. Beautiful service. Easy dining experience. They even brought out a little dessert when they learned it was our anniversary. Lovely!
Excellent Food & Service 👌🤩
Our favorite place to dine for special occasions. The outdoor patio is lovely, and very comfortable. The movies are an added bonus.
