About

This restaurant is permanently closed. Albion is a bar, café, grill, food market and wine shop where the vast majority of the food and drink products are British. The day starts with an extensive breakfast and brunch menu and then progresses to a lunch menu full of café specialities that are available throughout the day. Tea cakes and biscuits follow in the afternoon before a modestly priced supper menu with delicious and comforting neighbourhood restaurant favourites. Everyone is welcome, whether popping in for a glass of wine with a friend, a solo cup of tea or a full and hearty meal. We also have free high-speed Wi-Fi should you need to catch up on a few emails while you’re with us.

Very authentic english cuisine that's family friendly. Kids eat free on weekends and it's a great place to enjoy an authentic english sunday roast without going to a pub...perfect for visits to the Tate Modern. We'd definitely come back.

Wonderful food and good location next to Tate Modern on quiet street. Service was pretty good, but they seemed a bit annoyed by our large party that included a couple of food allergies. Enjoyed the custom cocktails. Would recommend and visit again with a smaller group maybe.

Such a pity this place is now closed. Good food and professional staff. Puts the clerkenwell branch to shame. Hope it reopens at some point soon.

Food is described better than it tastes. Can be better. Service was good. Felt a bit rushed though. Nice for a quick bite after a visit to the Tate. Good for healthy food too. Nice drinks

The restaurant staff tried really hard to rectify some service issues but there are real problems at this restaurant that need to be sorted, at least on the day of our visit. Service was incredibly slow, and when we finally ordered, it took 45 minutes for them to realise they were out of a menu item, right when all the other food was coming. With barely an apology at first. Several times we had to get up and ask for drinks directly at the bar. Staff were not very knowledgeable about the confusing menu layout, which did not match the menu listed on Open Table strangely. And no toast provided if you offer a full fry up! Just ridiculous. Other tables walked out as the service was so bad they did their best to apologise but all in all a really disappointing and frustrating experience - one of the worst I've had in London ever.

We had a very tasty meal here and did not feel at all rushed . They were a bit short on serving staff but we still received good service. We would visit again if in the area.

A very friendly all day dining spot. Informal and with good fresh ingredients, healthy options, and a variety of unusual dishes. A great venue on the South Bank

This place never lets me down and have been a regular since it first opened
the cheese pie is excellent
the current dessert "Sussex Pond Pudding" is something I have never come across before
but be warned it is a rather large portion and very delicious

Friendly place with good service and great value for money. It is a bonus that it is open for breakfast and brunch all day and I am amazed it is so quiet given its proximity to the South Bank and the Tate.

I had heard some great things about Albion, but my first visit was extremely poor and in a nutshell I will not be visiting in a hurry. We visited for breakfast as a birthday treat...!
There were a number of negatives -- so I will straight out list them:
1) Made a reservation online for a table, and when we arrived the table "was not ready" and then when we were seated it was right at the back end of the restaurant.... with no visible waiters.
2) I had to look out and catch a waiters attention to place my order.
3) My partner is vegetarian and kindly requested to have the eggs that were part of the dish substituted for mushrooms instead - surely not a major issue?!... After taking our order she then came back 5mins later and said the 'chef told her off' for swapping eggs for a mushroom. So they then CHARGED US EXTRA to have mushroom instead of eggs!
4) I opted for the full english and requested my eggs to be poached - low and behold the eggs are hard, no runny yolk. How disappointing.
5) I was also served toast without butter, not sure this is a normal thing at Albion ?

On a slightly positive note the bacon was really good and the manager on site noticed we removed service charge and gave us a bar of chocolate on the way out as a gesture of goodwill -- however it was a little too late and by that time I was fed up of my experience and couldn't wait to leave.

I really wouldn't recommend Albion (at least not the Bankside branch anyway) -- there are nicer restaurants only a stones throw away so I would recommend those instead.

A very disappointing experience. The greeting was very poor. Very slow to advise the same main course two of us ordered wasn't available. A question I asked about my second choice of main and on which I based my choice of a side dish was answered wrongly. The desserts two of us ordered were delivered to the table before the other two in the group being told their separate choices of desserts were not available which was appalling.
We have been a number of times with a mixed experience but we all agreed we would be unlikely to return even though the location is great for all of us.

The service was extremely friendly and efficient. Our food came quicker than expected and was all of a good quality. Generally good sized portions. Chilled water on the table as standard. A request for more houmous for my houmous-monster son was accepted with no questions asked and no extra charge (nice touch that under 8s eat free at the weekend). It was our first time at the Albion and I was a little hesitant to book, due to reading some mixed reviews. Our experience was all positive. And we will definitely return.

We had a tasty meal at Albion. The deal also made it very good value. It was quite quiet but I think this is mainly due to location - the immediate area is less buzzy once the Tate closes.

Very attentive staff and food arrived very quickly. Seafood platter to share between the table was excellent and followed by a selection of mains for the table, all of which were excellent too. Plus a nice discount from OpenTable to round off a great evening. A bit quieter than most restaurants as it's a bit out of the way, so that could be better if you're after a buzzing dinner venue.

Relaxing place to eat. Well situated. Good traditional food. Staff always friendly, and a great manager, who obviously takes pride in the restaurant. Only suggestion- pies look a bit bare on the plate when served, even a tiny bit of garnish would give a bit of visual impact. Favourite place to eat for lunch near the Tate.

Overall it's a nice restaurant but not the nicest Albion I have been to. The location is great.

One member of the waiting staff was particularly conversational in an interuptive and inappropriate manner which made myself and friends feel uncomfortable.

My main meal was missing the chips stated on the menu and I was told the dish didn't come with chips. Once I informed them it was on the menu, they checked and disappeared to the kitchen to request the rest of my meal. There was no apology.

Four of us went for brunch on Sunday. The service was incredibly slow and the food was poor. Two of our party had poached eggs but when they arrived (after an hour) they were completely cooked through. The toast was cold and the scrambled eggs were overcooked. We wont be visiting again.
