I had a reservation at 7 pm but did not get seated until 7:30 pm. I was disappointed since it was my birtbday! What was the point of making a reservation? I even called twice during the week to confirm the reservation. Other than that dinner for a party of 9 was ok.
Made reservation on opentable, called to confirm that hibachi grill would available for my guest and myself. Upon arrival I was told that there was no room for my party at the hibachi grill and would have to eat at a regular table. Service was subsequently slow. Food was good but not great.
Never disappoints. Food excellent, portions generous and ask the chefs go out of their way to entertain
Sushi was good. Great buy one Get one free deal. The hibachi steak was chopped too small and was over cooked by the time it got to the table.
When we arrived, Ai Fuji was CLOSED, for nonpayment of taxes according to a notice on the front door. Shocking and disappointing.
The hibachi table was delish
My colleagues and I for a business luncheon. We were quickly seated and were able to have appetizers, an entrée , and a brief meeting all within a period of 1.5 hours. The expedited service during their lunch period enabled us to take care of business matters, have lunch and get back to the office within a reasonable time. In addition, the food was really good too.
CLOSED! This was one of our family favorites (with our young kids), but we just tried (on 2/25/17) to come for dinner and found it closed (turning into a Melting Pot, apparently).
Pros: Atmosphere was pretty nice and the place was quiet. Private seating areas were available which were definitely a plus.
Cons: Server wasn't too helpful and didn't understand English very well. The food was a little bit overpriced considering the quality of food. Shiki sushi which is across the street is a better bang-for-your-buck deal and the food tastes better there. Only plus side to Ai is the private rooms.
Quality sushi, excellent portions, and the chef was very personable. A bit of a communication gap with the server / owner.
Meh - it was OK but not the best sushi. It's fine and not very expensive. Also not very quick. The only nice thing is they take rsvp so that is a bonus if you don't have time to wait somewhere else.
Staff friendly and very accommodating. Hibachi was fun.
The food and Hibachi Chef was wonderful! The beginning service was slow to get organized, but overall it was a fun evening. This was a Girl's Night Out event and AI Fuji helped make it one of our best events yet.
From the moment we arrived, service was horrible! Once seated, we sat for a half hour waiting because they wanted more people at the Hibachi table. We ordered wine which we did not receive until 45 minutes after being seated. The place was not crowded so there was no excuse. A very obnoxious family came in and was seated at our table. We spent the next 45 minutes listening to them yell expletives and play videos to each other on their phone. In addition to our Hibachi we ordered sushi which came out wrong. The waitress acknowledged it was wrong and proceeded to tell me there was no more squid left to remake my order *blank stare*! This was our first visit and definitely our last! The entire experience was HORRIBLE!!
Ate at the Hibachi table and it was awesome! Our cook was hilarious and food was great!
Good food in spite of our wait time. Still like this place!
Service was horrible. We waited 50 minutes after placing our order for the Hibachi chef to start cooking. I would not recommend this restaurant.
Lovely New Years Eve dinner. Our usual sushi restaurant stopped seating at 7:30 so we decided to give this place a shot. Sat at the sushi bar which was great. We had excellent service from everyone including a small complementary appetizer from the chefs. Sushi was tasty and came out quickly.
Opentop confirmed but actually not open so i waste time to go there with anger
After 45 minutes at the table, we still have not received our waters. When appetizer arrived, it was the worst calamari I have ever tried. It was just horrible. We got up, paid for the served food, and left. I really do not understand how a place like this have anything like 4 stars on OpenTable. I will not recommend this place to anyone who enjoys tasty food and expects reasonably prompt service.
We went on a Monday night so it was a bit slow, but that didn't hurt the service or food. Excellent value for the quality.
The staff was super friendly, the food was amazingly delicious, and the prices were reasonable. It was raining and a bit early for a Saturday so there weren't many people there, but that meant more privacy for us. There was a warm and inviting atmosphere with top 40 music playing on the PA. I would definitely go to Ai Fuji again if I'm in the Durham area.
While visiting our daughter in Cary, we tried this restaurant in search of hibachi style food. This place certainly fit the bill with great food and service. For lunch, it was a real bargain and all came away full! I would highly recommend it!
We love Ai Fuji - they have always been accommodating to families. In addition, they are easy to get in and out and the food is always fantastic. We had a large party with half the table comprised of kids under 4. Very daunting, however, the staff was engaging and while our group was a challenge, the servers prompt and attentive to our needs.
Did not meat my expectation for this type of setting. Soup and salad was good but the main meal was lacking flavor. Kids were expecting sherbet but none was offered. Service was good and fast.
Try out this spot on the recommendation of a friend and absolutely loved it. The server was friendly and helpful. My salmon bento box was excellent with my salmon cooked to perfection. My bento box came with tempura, California roll and shrimp dumplings. I tried the table seating this time but plan to try the grill seating the next time for my get together.
Our hibachi cook was amazingly good, with the kids and adults alike. He made it very entertaining and cooked everything well, too. We have been to Benihana and been underwhelmed, as well as many other teppanyaki places that were good, and this experience was the best by far for all ages. Thanks, will go there again when we travel back to NC.
The people were so nice from the host to the chefs and everyone in between. I choose the restaurant for a birthday party. I would recommend anyone that is looking for a great place to relax, be entertained and enjoy some great food. This is the place
I went in just for Sushi only. It was OK... quite unremarkable... a bit too much rice and the pieces were too small. The soft-shell crab was also OK... it was fried too long and it was a bit too crisp. I will give it another try in the future to see if it was just a bad day.
So many choices! Everyone in our party ordered hibachi but there were plenty of other options. Only nit was that they forgot our salad but honestly I didn't miss it much!
My step daughter and I went to AI Fuji last Saturday night, and we sat in one of the little rooms that has just one table, which we liked. I had a cream cheese and crab fried wonton appetizer that was a special, and they were delicious. I also had the avocado and salmon sashimi salad, and it was very good. It tasted nice and fresh, and was reasonably priced. She had the chicken hibachi, which is what she orders every time we go to this restaurant. As always, she wasn't disappointed. Great service, great food, great price. We've been to this restaurant about 10 times, and have always had an enjoyable experience, whether sitting at the big tables when the rest of the family is with us, where they cook in front of you, or sitting at a regular table. I recommend!
Ai Fuji is a great place to go with kids. They love the show, and the food is great!
I had my boyfriends 44th birthday dinner here, it was wonderful. The food was great, the atmosphere was great, Susan emailed me in advance and let me know she was putting me in a private room so we could have some more privacy which was excellent. She let me come in earlier that day and decorate. Our cooks were wonderful, nice, kind, funny, kept us entertained. The waitress however, was rude, and we had to wait forever to get our meal started. I recommend this place if you have a large party because most reasonable restaurants don't allow reservations on a Saturday. The sushi was great, the food was great to me and me guests, everyone loved the place and the cooks. When we were leaving we addressed our concerns to Susan and she apologized to us for our bad experiences. I just booked my best friends b day dinner for next month.
I stumble upon this place while looking for an Asian option in the area and I am so happy that I did. The service was outstanding and my server was very attentive. I ordered the Salmon Bento Box which came with soup, salad, sushi, dumplings and my salmon meal. For the price and the amount of food I got, I would said that this place is very reasonably priced. I will definitely be returning
We did table side hibachi with our granddaughter and she was amazed at our chef's showmanship. We were lucky to get this professional as he seemed the best of the table side chefs. Food was tasty and service was attentive.
Very dark - I wonder what they were trying to hide? The sushi was ok. The big room with the hibachi tables looked really fun. The prices were fair.
We enjoyed! Wait staff was amazing! My date really enjoyed a great meal which made me happy!
The service was by far the best part, as my father and I were attended to regularly. We did not do hibachi, so sat in a main dining area. The building is decorated well and quite expansive; seems like it would be good for groups. The food was good, just not what I expected. I got chicken teriyaki and the chicken was boiled, which is not typical for teriyaki. I found it to be somewhat lacking in flavor because of this. My father got a soup and had the same remarks. It was good, but not great. A bit on the bland side. Portions were large though, and the hibachi tables seemed to be great for kids as well. Prices I think were a bit high, but not unreasonable at all.
I decided to stop by and try out this place as I was in town and looking for some sushi options. The soft shell crab appetizer was to die for. The sea dragon roll and hot mama roll were two of the best sushi I had. And all their sushi is bogo which is great bang for my bucks. I also ended up taking a hibachi lunch to my husband which he absolutely loved. Overall excellent and I will definitely be back.
