Great Wine pairing. The sommelier, Rafa, was a rockstar. The food was good, but we didn't eat anything that really blew our minds - for a restaurant with 2 Michelin stars, I have to say I expected way more from the food taste - they played with textures and the presentations were pretty, but the overall flavors were just alright.
Meal was poorly timed. Food courses arrived 10-15 mins after each wine pairing pour. Gaps between courses ranged wildly between 2 to 20 minutes. Not expected from a 2* Michelin restaurant.
As always a memorable dining experience!
This is the most elegant restaurant! The service was outstanding, the attention to detail amazing and the food was superb. Everything from the moment we walked in to the moment we left could not have been better. This is truly the restaurant you want for a special occasion.
Just a treasure in San Francisco! Been many years but too long.
Fantastic food, top-of-the-line service and a small/cozy dining area. If on a date, you can request half-moon tables that allow you to sit next to each other! Wine list is extraordinary and the staff is all incredibly knowledgable and friendly.
Impressed by ambiance and service level for high end client entertaining
Everything would of been perfect with the exception of a few gnats flying around our table. We had the five course pre fixed menu and every dish was delicious. Usually when choosing the pre fixed or seasonal menu at theses Michelin Star restaurants, there are always a few courses that are unremarkable but every dish we had that evening was delicious. With that said, folks that are new to fine dining should start there since it’s very safe and not really pushing any boundaries. We would definitely dine there again. We will just have to wear a bee keepers outfit next time to avoid the flying bugs.
Disappointing experience. Ran out of seasonal tasting menu for late reservation. Only the lobster gnocchi and tomato raviolo were good. Everything else was just mediocre and salty. Service could be a little better. Took them forever to bring out the bread. They brought the bread out after they brought out the two amuse bouche. I don't know if they did that on purpose or not. Didn't love it. Won't be coming back or recommend it to my friends.
Exciting combination of ingredients
Top wine list
It was my wife's birthday and she was thrilled with this restaurant. It's our new favorite place. Sorry Danko, Benu, Single Thread and French Laundry this place has you beat. So sophisticated. So romantic. The best round tables for two. I hate bench seating. Run don't walk to Acquerello.
The ala carte menu has a good variety of selection. Each course is described in detail to us and is very delicious. The sommelier recommended a lovely wine for each of us to go with our personal preference. Great services. The chef surprises at the beginning and the complementary chocolate trolley at the end are great touches.
Delicious and imaginative food. Well executed.
Great wine selection.
This restaurant sells a fixed menu and a regular menu. They won’t sell the fixed menu unless everyone on the table buys such menu. House’ rules as they put it. Furthermore, to avoid an issue they told me the fixed menu was just sold out... which is pointless to go there if the fixed menu is unavailable. Not a very good option in my opinion.
Awesome experience. Celebrated wife's birthday. Had three course prix fix menu which was more like seven courses if you count the three amuse bouch and complimentary dessert tastes for the birthday girl.
I last ate there in 1993, and it is even better than I remembered. The $105 prix fix was perfect for my 76 yo appetite. The dishes were exquisitely presented, starting with 3 different amuse bouches before even getting a menu. I prefer cocktails to wine, so the lack of cocktail menu and a bar was my only criticism.
Food was good, but the service is just fair,
Excellent service and food was delicious especially the ridged pasta with foie gras, marsala and black truffle.
Presentation and service was excellent. Food was good but not memorable.
Food and service was phenomenal. We were celebrating our 33rd anniversary and the staff made it very special for us. Would go back there again and again!
Old San Francisco fine dining at its best. Very formal. Great for a special occasion (AKA 21st wedding anniversary). Food was delicious, would describe as modern Italian with traditional roots. We chose the tasting menu with wine pairing. Nothing disappointed! We were even given a card wishing us a Happy Anniversary and a complimentary dessert in addition to the dessert course. Service was on point and food was delicious. We especially enjoyed the corn and smoked marscapone amuse bouche, the frog legs with asparagus and egg yolk, and the foie gras and black truffle pasta.
Acquerello never fails us. It is our special occasion restaurant. We don't like driving/going into San Francisco, but we will do it only because of this special place.
It was our 35th anniversary and we were treated like royalty. Thoroughly delightful evening from start to finish. Exceptional meal and service. Reminded us why we keep returning.
If you have never been to a Michelin restaurant before, I would HIGHLY suggest to try out Acquerello out. This was my first Michelin style restaurant and I am won over. The quality, taste, and just overall ambience of the restaurant was amazing. Both my significant other and I were wearing dark clothing; our napkins were white, yet the hostess made note of this and asked if we wanted to switch our napkins to a darker shade to match our clothing style. I was set back by this, no other place had asked this question prior. Something so small, yet it set the tone for our food adventure for the evening. Like I had stated, I had told our waiter that this was my first Michelin type dinner, he told the chef and they brought out several little treats for me to try out before our Prix Fix dinner. I was won over by them and I would definitely come back. There really is no way to describe it; the flavors were so robust and unique that I had never tasted food like that before. The bites were so small, however the flavor was all over the place. My palate will never be the same. My suggestion if you are on the fence about this restaurant, try it out. I am very happy that I did. I would HIGHLY recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting to eat here.
What a gem of a restaurant! Despite it's tenure, it still has a fresh approach to fine dining. Each course delights and the service matches the excellent food.
A gem . We are lucky to have in SF.
Exception and exactly what I’d expect and more from a SF Michelin Star restaurant. From the flavors of the food, to the excellent wine suggestion by the sommelier, to the outstanding wait staff, acquerello does not disappoint.
This is only the 4th time I have been here. I have always loved this place an have very much looked forward to dinning here with great anticipation. Maybe it was the 9:00 pm seating, maybe it was just me, but I was very disappointed! The food , the service and the experince did not live up to a two starred Michelain restaurant expectations.
Loved the ambiance of Acquerello!
Don’t see the value. Everything was “good” but expect an amazing meal for the price we paid...obvious thought in presentation, but was not amazed by the food in a restaurant with this high of rating...
Perhaps the best dining experience ever. Everything was perfect.
The place was amazing, the food was deliciously amazing, and the service was great. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. My only complaint was a little fruit fly that kept flying back to our table.
I asked that if it was possible to serve the sauce on the side for the duck. The waiter was clearly annoyed and gave an explanation. He should have said absolutely immediately with a smile. In fact, it was extremely easy to prepare the duck with the sauce on the side. The next night I made a similar request at a another restaurant (that was much less expensive) that was received positively. This restaurant is expensive and should have outstanding service.
Most amazing experience! The service and food were both fantastic! We were seated well past our reservation but it was well worth the wait. Price is extremely high but for a special occasion it was more than worth it. Love!!!! One of a kind for sure.
My wife’s birthday.
Best restaurant in San Francisco hands down five or six years running— likely longer. At least since Fleur D closed. Why? Best Food/Best Service. The son of the owner is a bit of a contemptible acorn, but that just makes the consummate charm and professionalism of the actual staff seem shinier.
Only Coi — and perhaps Saison or Crenn-on good nights— compete. Acquarel is Always On. Enjoy.
Thanks, Acquarello. Somebody has to class up Polk Street, and I just don’t have the horses!
Just a great place, meets top standards for fine dining. No hard liquor served, but wine list is great. Each dish is perfect.
The wine list was great but the food quality was mediocre at best.
Anniversary. Amazing dinner
Could not have been better
