Grilled fish, jalapeño honey mayo with cabbage slaw and pickled red onions. Served with white rice and black beans
Chicken-fried oysters, charred pineapple, micro greens drizzled with jalapeño honey mayo
Chipotle spiced shrimp, black bean pico topped with Monterey Jack cheese and pickled red onions
The atmosphere is pretty chill, but the food was overpriced.
Love this place. Guac is always delicious, as are their margaritas!
The food was exceptionally average “tourist food,” a far cry from what the restaurant used to serve. Prices were ridiculously high (e.g. $14.50 for guacamole for two). However, service was, by far, the lowest point. First an employee yelled at us because the hostess had put the menus and silverware on the table before it had been wiped down. The waiter appeared infrequently. We had to clear our own table to make room for the meals when they were served after the appetizer (only 3 of the 4 meals came out at the same time, making everyone wait for the last one to arrive while the remainder got cold). I’ve eaten here many times before in the past but it is not a restaurant I would patronize again. And heaven help the poor tourist who goes in there thinking they’ll experience “San Antonio friendly” or even a basic Tex-Mex meal of quality.
The oysters on yucca chips were scrumptious and the chocolate mousse dessert was to die for- ordered both visits making sure to walk to keep sugar in check. LOL
We sat down and waited 20 mins for our table before any server helped us let alone brought us water. We were about ready to leave when the server appeared. Thankfully he was great and saved the dining or we would have gone elsewhere. Food was ok but then was out of the beer we tried to order. Finally - ambience was average. No music outside or any noise reductions. I felt as if I were dining in the middle of a street. I will not go back there!
Very loud. Food was good.
We had a lovely dinner before our lion king theater show. The food and services was delicious. They did not offer valet, but the parking garage was pretty close by and only charged a $10 flat rate .
I would definitely recommend this restaurant, excellent food and service
Good was great
Wonderful waiter that provided so much local information and history about San Antonio as well as great service with a crowded restaurant.
Fantastic dinner except NO tableside guacamole! WTH? All that said, the food is excellent and Gilbert is a great, great waiter! Great service, knowledgeable of all menu and drink items, timely refills and check delivery.
Loved our dinner at Acenar.
Good service and delicious frozen margaritas.
Anniversary. Some items of the food were not hot.
Our waiter was very cordial but not overly attentive. Good job. Food was good as was expected. We usually dine her before theater evens.
Ernest was an excellent server. Great suggestions with the menu and food was yummy! Margs we’re good too!
We will be back!
We sat at an outside table under a noisy fan. Prompt service by a friendly waiter. Drinks were tasty. Food was very good but mine was lukewarm when I took my first bite. Husbands shrimp were juicy and seasoned nicely. Our table was in a puddle and not as nice as I expected but great ambiance by the River made up for that.
This is the go-to place for us prior to our Broadway Play experience. We meet friends for dinner and then proceed to the theater. And, this we have done for several years. The dinner was very good and our service member was excellent.
Have always enjoyed Alcenar on our way to the theater.
The food was delicious and amazing. The service could use some help. We sat 10 minutes to be waited on and had to waive someone down to help us. After that the service experience was better.
The young man at reception wasn't too friendly or welcoming, but our server was great. In fact, we interacted with other servers, too, and they were ALL great. Food was good and drinks were better.
It was OK, couldn’t talk far too echoey, felt bad for my uncle with hearing aides, service was decent but sub par, food 3/5.
Hoped for more after reading about this place online
Our table was ready promptly and the service was wonderful. Our server was courteous and knowledgeable and our water and chips never ran out. Altogether a very enjoyable experience.
Service was amazing food was very good enjoyable evening
I’ve eaten here for the last nine years when I come to town. My experience last night was not the restaurant I use to know!
The service was very good, some of the food was excellent but some was not so good. The guacamole had obviously been made much earlier in the day and was running and tasteless - couldn't finish it. The pork came with a corn 'tamale' which was not edible - it was rock solid and so starchy like a lead weight.
On the other hand the tacos were great.
The server, Christopher, was wonderful and accommodating.
Overall - would get it a second chance but stay away from the Guac unless they make it right in front of you.
The food and service were excellent. We loved the quiet atmosphere when you barely open in comparison to the later hours when it's busier and louder. Food was just as good as our last visit. Still love that salsa that comes with the salsa and chips.
Delicious food, friendly, knowledgeable and attentive wait staff. We will return!!
The food was expensive but that’s to be expected on the RiverWalk. No one in my party got a dish they loved, it was adequate. Nothing special.
I had looked at the menu for Acenar when I booked our restaurants for our trip to San Antonio. I wanted to go to a Mexican restaurant that had some modern dishes on the menu, not just the typical Tex-Mex fare. When we got there, however, the menu was very short on such items and didn't have the fish dishes that I had seen on the menu when I selected the restaurant. The menu was mostly what you would expect to find at any Mexican restaurant on the Riverwalk. It's a pretty restaurant and the service was good, particularly in light of the fact that it was so crowded. We ordered the mixed grill for 2 with beef, chicken, pork and sausage. It was okay, but there was no sauce on the meat whatsoever and none on the side. The meats were a little dry and the pork had no seasoning on it at all. For our taste, I think we could have found better Mexican food elsewhere on the Riverwalk, probably for a cheaper price.
Well prepared cuisine, excellent tacos and drinks. Lovely seating right on the Riverwalk
We had booked a dinner reservation for 6:00, but we stopped by around 3:00 for cocktails and guacamole because it was hot outside and we were hungry. Everything was great and we had the place mostly to ourselves. We came back later and of course the restaurant was busier. Still, the service was pretty fast. My biggest disappointment was the cochinita pibil. I wanted to try it because I make it myself (the Robert Rodriguez recipe), and I found it to be a little bland, The tres leches cake was excellent, though, as was the coffee that accompanied it.
It was great ! Our waitress Martha was amazing
Food was over cooked, and too salty.
Service was slow.
Try the Jalapeno Cucumber margarita and the crab tacos!!
Amazing wait staff. Drinks were, ok. Food was ok. Nothing that really excited me. Would recommend or try again with different food selection.
Horrible food and service. Very disappointing since the reviews were so good.
Great food and the best server in San Antonio! We love Acenar.
