My wife and I are not what you would call beef aficionados. We rarely go to steak houses. I think just once before to Smith and Wollensky in NYC which was outstanding.
With those disclaimers, I must say Aberdeen Barn exceeded our expectations. We both had roast beef, her's the Princess cut about 8 ounces, I had the regular cut, which was a bit much, but tender and delicious--plans already made for the remains in a Shepard's Pie.
Baked potato was excellent, the steak fries, not so much. I can't understand why it is so few American restaurants don't understand that french fries should be double fried. Creamed spinach was excellent as was the "real" key lime pie we had for dessert.
Excellent service by Austin topped off a great evening.
Excellent food, waiters and atmosphere. Love this place.
The food was good, but far from remarkable. I would call it pretty close to Outback quality at pretty close to Ruth's Chris prices. The service was excellent, very friendly and attentive. I probably wouldn't go again though.
Wonderful Prime Rib, Scallops, and Crab Cakes. In fact, everything was excellent, from the starters to the dessert. The staff is most excellent, as well.
Over priced for the amount and quality! It was just eh.
Steak was great! Love the charcoal flavor. Only minus is the price
IOt reminded me of a 1960's steakhouse that has probably seen its heyday. Food was ok but way overpriced, My son did get a nice piece of prime rib. Waiter was very attentive though.
Food, service and atmosphere was and always is amazing! A Charlottesville staple that I am so happy is surviving! Eat here!
The Aberdeen Barn is a classy steak house that reminds me of upscale country pubs in England. The food and service are always excellent. It makes me feel good to visit when I am in the States.
All 6 of us enjoyed this delightful evening at Aberdeen Barn
Visit to Charlottesville with birthday celebration at Aberdeen Barn.
Clean, good service, decent value. Could use updating
Never disappointed! Always great food and service with a quiet atmosphere
Service was great. The food was awesome was cooked perfectly the first time. We were giving hot dinner rolls as needed. We enjoyed our dinner. Keep up the good work.
Great evening
Service was excellent
Cocktails were very good.
Very nice wine list.
And the steaks were top notch
It was great food but not like the good old days, precovid.
Always good when we come here for dinner. We've been coming here for over 30 years and have never had a problem. One of the best steak houses in the country in our opinion, and we've been to many across the country.
Food was outstanding. Our server, Drew, was attentive and friendly. The decor is a bit out dated but I think that adds to the whole experience. Great place for a special occasion. Would recommend!
Great steaks and a great wine list. Good place to take a group.
The Aberdeen Barn is going to extreme lengths to create an excellent dining experience during these strange times. The food, as always, was superb. The service was attentive yet careful. Tables are spaced really far apart which made us feel we were having a private dinner. We love the Aberdeen Barn for a traditional old-school steakhouse experience. It’s a very special place.
We celebrated our wedding at the Aberdeen barn. So very nice
Steak was great! Highly recommend! Our server Kathleen was terrific!
McCormick & Schmick, it's not. It's a college town steakhouse. Overstuffed leather banquettes, nice wooden panelling, brass that was last polished when Ford was president. My "New York Strip" was maybe 1" thick. The creamed spinach was inedible (what was that chemical taste?). The sauteed mushrooms were OK, but not overly plentiful and seemed to have come from a can. The baked potatoes were large (good) and tasteless/overcooked (for a 7pm reservation... how do you do that?)
Sorry, for my $60 a head I expected something classier. Instead, we walked in to a foyer that features an open storage closet.
Now, to be fair, we had a nice time. The waitress was wonderful, friendly, chatty in a good way. The service was prompt.. The classic breadsticks and cheese. She really enjoyed her prime rib.
So sorry to bring bad news. If you're reliving your college days, or if you want to impress your sorority date by spending big bucks, you'll love it. If you're an objective food lover, you'll tolerate it.
I'll click on "Yes, would recommend to a friend" but only because I suspect there's nothing better here.
We’ve gone to AB for a long time. It’s still just as terrific today as our first time!
We had a very enjoyable meal with attentive service!
We were from out of town and really wanted Steak. Was exactly what we were looking for. Great food, drinks and surroundings. Will return if back in Charlottesville
Great food great service. We go every year for New Years eve. It was a little different this year with the pandemic.
Always a great experience with excellent food and outstanding service.
Wonderful evening!
The food and service was outstanding, as always! Thoroughly enjoyed.
We had a great experience here! The food and staff are fantastic!
Went back 2nd night in a row. The 1st night the steak was superb. This time it was fair and had lots of fat. A bit of a disappointment, especially at this price level.
Great food and service as expect at the Barn. I would say that it's not as nostalgic and traditional/semi formal as it used to be. Lot's of kiddos, shorts and flip flops, and ball caps and camo. Love all those things personally, but just not at the Barn. Will definitely continue to spend money, just observation. With 20% tip, bill for two was around $200...petit filet, NY strip, crab cake app, two salads, two glasses of wine and two liquor desert coffees.
I have been dining here since I moved to Charlottesville from NJ in 2001. Always a special place for us whether a special occasion or treating ourselves to a great meal. over the past 20 years I feel things may have changed a little less to what thing once were but overall still the best for a great steak/prime rib.
We have been coming here since our first date ten years ago and love the ambience and the atmosphere! food is amazing and perfect!!!
Great service and food as always . I’ve had every cut of meat and you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu
Always fantastic, COVID compliant, As always the food was great, server was amazing... Angela and her Staff brought another great night of what started as a steak craving into a great night of food and fun.
We had Scallops and a petit fillet. The scallops were over cooked the fillet was cooked properly “medium” but lacked flavor. The restaurant was not very busy, so they can’t say they food was over cooked due to have a lot orders. For a “steak place” we were disappointed in the quality of the food. We don’t mind paying higher prices for quality food. Unfortunately Aberdeen Barn missed the mark.
A good meal, but the service is what makes dining here so special. Our waiter was very attentive, and took care of us well. We enjoyed our food very much. One of our party was not satisfied with his prime rib, as he had asked for rare, and received medium well done. Otherwise, everything was delicious! We always enjoy our visits to Aberdeen Barn Charlottesville.
They were great as always. Servers are excellent.
