A Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
I had always regarded Newport Beach as a slow-paced, rather boring town until I dined one Thursday night at A. The bar was packed and noisy, with aging beautiful people connecting with one another. They seemed to be having a very good time. Seated in the restaurant as far from the bar as possible, we found its din to be quite tolerable. In fact, the energy radiating from the bar was fun.
And A is also a very good restaurant. The four of us were all happy with our meals.
Went there for a couple of friends' birthday for the Waygu beef. Overall the Japanese A5 Miyazaki Cut was preferred over the Imperial Wagyu Coulotte. The flavor on the Imperial was a little disappointing in comparison to the Miyazaki cut. I had the Boneless Ribeye and amongst the 3 of us, we preferred the Ribeye. Service was not up to par from our waiter. He seemed a little frazzled covering his tables and we had to wave him down several times to place our order, correct our order, order wine (he didn't even ask if we wanted anything other than water), remind him the reservation was for a birthday celebration.
As the bar area is right next to the open dining area, the noise level did not make for good conversation. We had to basically yell to talk to each other in our booth.
I took a first time date to this restaurant as it had been recommended by a friend. Making the reservation was easy. Parked in valet ($6). Seated right away. Nice ambiance with red leather booths. Menu was full of interesting choices. Went with steaks and side veggies. Bottle of reasonably priced wine. No dessert. Total bill with tip $290. A little pricey even for Newport Beach. Overall, I give it four stars.
My boyfriend and I LOVE to go to A Restaurant! This past Sunday was the BEST experience we have had throughout our many times dining here. The reason from this is because of our server- Juan! We already know that this is the place to go to get the best ribeye EVER and the service is always great but Juan outdid himself and truly deserves so much recognition for making our whole experience.
Great service- Juan thoroughly describes dishes and made excellent recommendations. Our cheese plate, scallops and ribeyes came out prompt and hot!
Great ambiance- The World Series was on and the bar area was very active but where we could still have a calm and peaceful dinner in the dinning room.
The only thing I would change about this restaurant is that you have to valet and they charge you! I think that it should all be self parking or complimentary valet.
We are always delighted with our meal at the A Restaurant! One of the best places in SoCal to get Japanese A5 Wagyu steak (or a delicious aged bone-in ribeye). Craft cocktails are fantastic and change regularly. Wine list (and inexpensive finds) are amazing. Highly recommend!
Excellent evening of quality, service and exceeded my expectations. Having a night out with friends was pleasantly enhanced by the supportive and experienced wait staff. The food was perfectly prepared, complementary flavors and we enjoyed every bite. Highly recommend, A++ experience.
Our last dinner at As, I'm afraid...
The steaks are so inconsistent, and when you tell a manager they actually argue with you and make you feel like you either ordered it incorrectly or didn't tell them soon enough. This time we both ordered medium steaks - one came out way rare. We don't have this issue anywhere else. They just take the fun out of an evening. We'll take our $$ elsewhere.
Went here last year on the recommendation of a local and loved it. Went back this year on our anniversary. The filet is incredible. So was the salmon and brussel sprout leaves. The sort was creamy and very flavorful. The ambience and service could not have been better.
This is by far the BEST RESTAURANT in Newport Beach. There is nothing more tgat can be said.
Service is impeccable.
Food is phenomenal.
Atmosphere is fun yet comfortable and cozy.
Did I say how great the service Is?
If you want a great experience in dining do yourself a favor and visit A's. You wont be disappointed.
Chose the restaurant from friend recommendation of the Frank Sinatra red leather ambiance, which it was, to celebrate my 19th wedding anniversary. Could not have been more disappointed in the music choice choice playing in the background (chain hotel lobby vibe). It totally ruined the atmosphere. The steak was exceptional, which you would expect for $50. Nothing else was memorable. 100 bottle of wine was definitely not worth the $. Bring your own for a $25. Corking fee. Service was great although they never asked if we were celebrating anything special like I noticed the waitress at the next booth did. The bar looked lively and would go back for a drink. The menu on the open table website is outdated and does not reflect accurate pricing. For the $300. Dinner, I would have rather gone to Mastros. Maybe the music choice would have changed that!
