I took a date to 801 Chophouse and we really enjoyed it. A little spendy but well worth it. The service was great and the food was phenomenal. Definitely try the lobster mac and cheese, just a fantastic dish loaded with lobster. My date and I both agreed, best steak we'd ever had.
The food is always amazing! My favorite fine dining spot. Everything is always cooked to perfection.
Food is always amazing! Slightly disappointed they removed booths but it is still worth every penny!
The food was amazing! The waitress was very helpful. The price, and the fact that several of the drinks my husband ordered were not stocked were my only two complaints.
Excellent prime rib and the sides are always tasty.
Excellent steak, delicious sides, superb service. Make sure to order the soufflé, it’s delicious.
Zach was great. Food was great. And I even got a free dessert for my birthday that weekend :)
We celebrated Valentine’s Day with our best friends. It was nice to have been given a table for the six of us in a private area for our increased comfort. It was truly a special evening with remarkable service and food.
We had a wonderful celebration of my birthday with family!
Thank you so much!
Paul was our sever some of the best service I have ever had a restaurant food was top notch everything was perfect
We have not been to 801 in many years, but were looking forward to a special Valentine’s Day meal. I want to preface this by saying we go to Fleming’s a couple times a year for special occasions, but wanted to try 801.
When you spend this kind of money on a meal, the service should be impeccable...it was not. Our waiter was borderline rude...didn’t seem to want to be there and very disinterested in us. We sat with dirty dishes in front of us multiple times for over 15 min. When we got there, it took 10 min to see our waiter and we had to ask for a wine list (shouldve been automatically given) then wait again. He never checked back with us to see if everything was ok or we needed anything....we did and again had to wait to flag him down. If this was a regular restaurant these things aren’t a big deal...but again, this is a $$$$ place...service is expected to be on point.
Our food was just ok. Asparagus was overcooked and mushy. Steaks were not great, not much flavor at all. We had to season them ourselves with salt. One thing I did love was the Roasted Oysters as an appetizer...very good!
When we ordered coffee and dessert, the coffee was so weak and lukewarm. Disappointing way to end the meal.
Again- I’m being picky because when I spend $500 (2 people) on a meal, it should be perfect.
801 Chop is supposed to be the primo place in Des Moines. My advice - go to Fleming’s instead if you want a chophouse. Service is always great and food is so much better.
Great place for. Valentine’s date!
801 is a true Des Moines treasure! The service, food and atmosphere are hands down the finest in the state of Iowa. We have been delighted customers of 801 for over a decade, and every single experience is utterly grand. The menu, food and drinks are consistently exceptional, and the staff is truly magnificent! We love you 801!!
Overwhelmed by the great hospitality and exquisite food. Made a great memory for our anniversary!
801 never disappoints! My husband and I had an early Valentine's reservation on Thursday and the food, server, and atmosphere are always on point. Can't recommend this place enough!
The food was good not good enough to justify spending that much for it. Don't Regret it but cant say Id go again
Best prime rib I have ever had! Wife and I had a great time
Long time customer of 801 and we are never disappointed. Quiet evening with a excellent anniversary dinner
Fantastic as always. Waiter suggested tempura lobster tail to start (off-menu) - it was INCREDIBLE. Souflee is the best in Des Moines.
Always great food and selection...the service was good- just the right amount of attention.
My husband and I celebrated his birthday and our anniversary. Our server was amazing! The food was phenomenal! Definitely an experience we won’t forget!
Out waiter Zach made the experience
Always love 801! Can’t wait to get back.
We were pleasantly surprised that they had a fixed price menu on Sundays. What we would have ordered was on this menu! Wedge salads (with pork belly —hell yes!) Filet with asparagus, Prime Rib with green beans and carrots both came with mashed potatoes. Dessert included Blood Orange mousse, and they subbed a creme brûlée cuz it was my birthday and that is my fave. It was $42 per, and you could get larger portions with a small up charge. It was such a good deal that we splurged on a very very nice bottle of wine! I would go back here in a heartbeat!!! The food was fabulous, and the service was spot on!
The food was amazing. Best steak in the Des Moines area. The sides are generous portions.
Ordered king crab and it was so salty it was hard to eat.
Best steak and overall service in Des Moines
Paul was amazing and helpful with the menu. The chef delivered a five star gourmet meal. Entree, vegetable, potato, and dessert were all outstanding. The music was so relaxing and fun.
Good food, great service, I had recomadtions so no wait. I’m was happy to try it learned a lot more about meat. Tried new food
Wonderful waitress! She was awesome!!! Food was outstanding!!
It’s has a nice atmosphere and very clean. Food is way overpriced and wasn’t worth the price they are asking. The steak was burnt on the exterior and rare on the interior. I can’t imagine what a medium steak would look like. The sea bass was good on the edges but raw in the middle. Best part of our meal was the dessert, but probably won’t be heading back.
Great spot. Visited many times. Best in Des Moines. Food is great. Service is great.
Excellent food, wine and ambience for my wife’s birthday!
Excellent, as always! Favorite place to go in Des Moines.
Celebrated our 50th Wedding Anniversary in style!
Awesome, as always.
After months of not going out due to COVID, my wife and I finally had a date night. 801 was our choice for a great meal in an upscale setting. We got a nice secluded booth, appropriately socially distanced from other dinners. The staff was friendly and helpful and made sure we were well taken care of. I had a great ribeye and my wife had the seafood pasta. Both were perfectly prepared and delicious. We capped the night off with the Grand Marnier souffle. Be sure to order it with your meal as it takes about 45 minutes to prepare. All in all, a great night out in these strange times.
Cant beat it for the best of everything! Always an enjoyable evening..
This is our second time to dine at 801. And to be honest - it is over rated. The price you will pay will not equal the quality of the food your receive. We were told they had 3 specials - one for a 14 oz wagyu steak. We were not told the price was $150. Our steaks were good, but not great. We splurged and got the wagyu. It was nothing special and definitely not worth the price they charge. The side baked potato was actually tough.
Overall - it was what we ordered. The service was fast and professional. But the experience is not worth the value.
For $300 for 2 steaks - we will not be back. You can find better food for a lot less money.
Another excellent meal at 801 Chophouse. Server was more than attentive, and it was a truly memorable experience. One of our guests has a severe peanut allergy, and the server and kitchen were more than welcoming and accommodating to our needs. They even prepared a specially made peanut free birthday cake for her!! 801 Chophouse is a true asset to not only central Iowa, but to all of Iowa. Thank you for another memorable evening.
