8 Block Kitchen & Bar
Offering a breakfast and lunch buffet of local, seasonally inspired dishes that fuses traditional New Orleans style with international flair. Diners are invited to start their day with delectable warm dishes from the breakfast buffet, which features our charcuterie bar and a made to order omelet station .
Hotel restaurants can be pretty dull. 8 Block is an attractive room in the open atrium with lots of natural lights. The tables are comfortable and the noise level isn't bad at all. Keep in mind this is a buffet, you get up and help yourself though the waitstaff brings drinks. I liked the breakfast choices very much.
Experience was profoundly “OK”. Plenty of OK food on the buffet. Didn’t get a check until I tracked down the server. Seemingly par for the course for the Hyatt Regency New Orleans, which is overpriced for an OK hotel with indifferent attention to our needs.
I made a reservation through open table for breakfast at 10:45 am, and when I showed up (on time) they said they were not serving breakfast anymore and that they were closed until 11 for lunch. They should not let me make the reservation then because I actually left my class earlier to make it mi my reservation 😡
From the made to order omelettes to the delicious chicken sausages and creamy cheesy grits, I was unapologetically happy. I attended the Essence Music Festival, which was also AWESOME.
Good value for food served and good service. No complaints today 😀.
Well worth the price had a variety of foods everything tasted great
My family and I ate breakfast there every morning during our stay at the Hyatt Regency while visiting NOLA. Great breakfast buffet and many delicious options. Service was fantastic! The food was delicious, especially their breakfast potatoes mixed with onions and peppers. Highly recommend.
I was disappointed that there were no lunch items offered for an 11:30 am reservation on a Sunday. Food was mediocre at best.
This place is situated in the Hyatt on the 3rd level, we met some friends who were staying there for brunch and I have to say it was very good. Lots of things to select from at the buffet from fresh fruit to charcuterie and all the regular items you’d see on a breakfast buffet all very tasty. It was surprisingly reasonable as well as far as the price
Brunch before Hamilton!
Great breakfast buffet. Wonderful staff. Very friendly. Food selection was extensive.
The food was very good but experience a bit disappointing. The waitress was largely bitter until I went to speak with a manager. I asked to take a buffet to-go to a guest who was ill and didn’t want room service coming to the room which came across as an unreasonable request. With great hesitation and managerial approval, they did provide a container of which I paid 25$ to get a few eggs and bacon with potatoes. The waitress finished out kindly from then on. What I was largely disappointed in is we made an 1045 reservation and was rushed to get food off the buffet so they could take it down. I feel you should not offer a 1045 reservation if you cannot allow your customers to eat off the buffet past 1100. We paid just as all others paid earlier in the morning and we would easily arrived earlier if we knew in advance you would close the buffet in such a manner.
Pre Saints Game
The lunch buffet was a great deal and delicious! I loved the dessert buffet.
We were disappointed they don’t serve lunch at 12 on sat
It seems like the Hyatt puts staff in this venue that are very inexperienced or disinterested in serving customers. Is there be anything more annoying than that when you go to a restaurant for a meal?
Great food selection and very gourmet!
Loved the personalized chefs special!
Buffet was good. Nice choices. Food could have been a bit warmer, but overall everything was good.
Restaurant is well designed but service was slow.
This breakfast buffet is a great value with lots of high-quality choices. My only complaint was it took some time to get the attention of the kitchen staff to prepare made-to order omelette.
I loved the dessert bar and perfect portion option.
Expensive but one of the better breakfast buffets I've been to. Worth checking out at least once but not affordable to do every day
We made a reservation, but our table was not ready. The buffet was quick for a bite to eat at lunchtime, but it was not exceptional.
Apparently this restaurant is NOT open for lunch on the weekends. I did NOT receive any phone call or notification that they were only open for brunch, even on Mother's Day. Our reservation was for 1145am, and after speaking with the restaurant, it sounded like they just wanted to go home rather than serve us because they closed at Noon.
My wife and I stopped by 8 Block for breakfast, and we were not pleased. You have two options for the buffet - a continental and a step above where you can select warm options. We opted for the warm option which set us back $25 a plate.
While there are plenty of options to choose from, I was not impressed with any of them. They were either flavourless, or you could tell that they had been out for a while. You also get access from the Infused water section, but all of the glasses that they had out looked unclean, so I did not partake. Also be aware that if you want orange juice, or anything other than coffee there is an additional charge on top of the $25 you have already spent.
Since this is a buffet for breakfast, the servers should be quick to assist in any way, but there was no drive behind them, so when you did find someone, they were not fast to react.
To summarize we immediately regretted our decision to have breakfast at this location. There are far better choices.
Tasty, nice selection, and friendly wait staff. We will definitely come back
The food was good, the service was only fair, even for a buffet it was only fair.
Excellent eatery inside a fabulous Hyatt Regency. Breakfast buffet was superb, from the protein options to the starches to the fruits & grains, everything was spot on and tasty. I had 7 servings of most everything and wish I had time for at least 3 more.
8 Block is in the Hyatt Regency, a gigantic convention hotel. It's the only place for a sit-down breakfast. But warning: BUFFET ONLY. We ate here every morning and enjoyed it. Lots of hot coffee, excellent selection of foods - both hot and cold. REALLY good breads. Fresh fruit. Salted AND unsalted butter. I'd go back.
I came back because my first experience was wonderful, but yesterday I brought a friend back for her Birthday Brunch and it was a total BUST!!!!
We got there for 10:30 and by 11, they were breaking down the food stations and not replacing items. The Mimosa Bar was clear across the restaurant from where they seated us and twice we had to ask them to bring out more along with more fruit that didn't have gnats attached to them (disgusting). A lot of the food selections once they ran out weren't replaced. It was a horrible experience and I won't be back and I'll pass the word along as well.
Cheap buffet style food. Plentiful if not particularly enjoyable.
Overall good experience. Waiters were friendly and helpful. Food was good. Buffet is nce for an early morning business meeting.
Sunday brunch was great - food and the value. Very good servers with wonderful personalities
Great place for a quality client breakfast. The choice of food was fantastic.
Had breakfast buffet and the selections are many, food fresh and clean area.
We had breakfast with clients here 2 mornings in a row, and had made reservations for both days in advance. The first day they acted surprised that we actually had a reservation and said they would try to fit us in. They continued to seat other guests. After we were seated it took 20 minutes to get our hot tea. We never got the water we ordered until the end of our meal. Good thing it was a breakfast buffet or we would have never gotten out of there! Seriously, for only having to take beverage orders and deliver them, they were terrible. If we weren't staying there for a conference we wouldn't have gone back the 2nd day, but it was pre-set and convenient for everyone as they were also staying at the hotel. The food was good, but wayyy overpriced. $22.95 for a breakfast buffet or $17.95 for continental - ridiculous!
As a place to eat brunch the options were excellent the food choices were outstanding and service was great
Service is non existent. Slow responses. Food quality is average at best.
Unique menu and very helpful staff
We went to the buffet as a quick and easy option before a Saints game. The buffet was out of more than half of its food. We never once had our water glasses filled throughout the entire meal. And to end the experience, our credit card was swiped for someone else's bill. This isn't a restaurant I would ever need to go back to.
