We focus on pristinely prepared food with refined and elegant service.
Our cuisine highlights the seafood tradition of Tidewater Virginia, but our diverse menu has something for everyone!
Quite possibly the best restaurant meal i have ever had. All cooked just right with adequate proportions. The only concern, and oh so slight, was that the restaurant had no caffeine free herbal teas for hot tea. We will definitely go back!
Very pleasant and relaxing evening. Drink service was a little slow at first (we were told it was a new bartender), but worth the wait. We started with the fried goat cheese salad and a bowl of she crab soup, both were delicious. For our meals we ordered the crab cake appetizer and the fried sea scallops with side orders of ratatouille and Boursin risotto. The crab cake was very good, the scallops were huge ( in a good way), the ratatouille was as good as I’ve had in a restaurant and the Boursin risotto was rich and creamy...delicious. We had the creme brûlée and bread pudding for dessert both were among the finest examples of each I’ve had in the US. The wait staff was wonderful; they were friendly, and attentive but not intrusive. In summary 456 Fish made our evening very pleasant. We left satisfied and refreshed and I would gladly recommend 456 Fish to friends and acquaintances. We will be back.
Very accommodating. Personable staff
The she-crab soup was a little salty but it was a nice portion with very large lumps of crab and no shells. The fried shrimp and broiled grouper were very delicious and perfectly cooked. Our server was very attentive and when part of my party was late arriving the kitchen staff held their food in the warmer so that as soon as they arrived it could be brought immediately out.
Went for dinner at 6 PM before Broadway show at 8 PM at Chrysler Hall. dinner was not rushed at all and very relaxing. Crab soup, Zesty Feta salad, and crab stuffed flounder were all good. Salad did not have olives (as stated on menu) but we enjoyed it.
Excellent food and service. We were guaranteed to finish in time to attend the play at Chrysler and the staff did not disappoint!
Drinks during happy hour were unacceptable
Service was excellent and timely
Apparently they have a new chef
It was theater night so understandably, it was busy and noisy. We have eaten here before and enjoyed it, so that is why we went back. We ordered a bottle of wine and it took quite some time before the waiter came back to say they were "looking for that wine". We waited a little longer when the manager came over to say that wine was not available and we chose another wine. That too, was not available. Again, because it was theater night, we were pressed for time so we chose something that they assured us was available.
456 Fish is always consistently very good. The location makes it an excellent choice when attending events at Scope or Chrysler Hall, making for a wonderful evening.
We made early reservations before our show. We were met and seated immediately. The service was very good even as the restaurant reached capacity. We had cocktails, appetizers, entrees and deserts. All were brought in a timely fashion to allow us enough time for a relaxing meal and make the show in time. The food as always was absolutely delicious. We all had seafood and the preparation and temperature were right on the mark. Highly recommend.
Kandida was wonderful!
The restaurant is nice but very expensive for the portions. The Food was good.
It was a wonderful evening in every respect, from service to food. The portions were very generous.
My husband said it was the best chicken fried steak he has had in Virginia !! We have lived here for 30 plus years!
Disappointing! Drinks did not come out and asked several times. Appetizer came out before cocktails. Bread was brought out partially frozen and offered only 1 small piece 1 time. Food was just okay. Waiter seemed uninterested. The man that brought appetizer (from kitchen) did try to help by asking. Bartender about drinks and stabilizing wiggling table by placing something u set the leg. Clearly the people at the bar were the priority.
Excellent meal before the show. Our server Tonisia Was way better than Steve... The chefs even agreed to put a blackened Mako shark In place Of the salmon on a menu item.
Nice dinner place . Good service and great seafood options
We were lucky to find this gem.
Ordered from the Happy Hour menu.
The best crabcakes I've had in 29 years!
Great service and food. Hope to be in the area again soon.
Outstanding service. Steve was the best. The food was most excellent.
This was our first visit to 456 Fish and will not be our last. Our server, Steve, made sure our experience was incredible. He helped recommend a bottle of wine based on my wine's preference for the evening and then, based on the wine selection walked us through several selections on the menu that would pair well (and why). We each picked one of the specials that evening and the food was outstanding. Throughout the meal, Steve was present, but never overbearing. Unfortunately, we were attending a show that night and did not have time to stick around for dessert, but many of the options sounded so good that we look forward to going back when we can include dessert in our evening.
I really like this restaurant. I love it on Wednesday. The difference is on Wednesday it is not only a great meal, it is a great deal. The date night special allows two people to share 1 starter, 2 main dished and 1 dessert, plus a bottle of wine. We have enjoyed the date night special on three different occasions and I am always extremely satisfied. We will be back.
Great food, service and everything was timely!
Zach W. was one of the best waiters we have ever had. His knowledge of the menu was incredible, his service was top notch and he made our dining experience incredible. Thanks for a great dinner!
Waiter Steve took care of us in style! I had the halibut special which ranks amount the best meals I’ve ever eaten. We will definitely be back.
Great food and service. Loved watching the ceiling fans. You don’t see the belt driven to often. Will be going again.
Great visit! Food and service was wonderful. We would go again
We went to 456 Fish for dinner before a concert. Food was great! Our waiter was very personable and took great care of us. Would definitely recommend!
Was a great nite they did all they could make my Birthday visit a good time.. Great greeting, good table and friendly attentive service.. We'll be back! Deb and Bill Schmidt Wmsburg
Awesome food, though a bit skimp. I had the grouper. It was a strip of fish approximately the width of two fingers. It was my Anniversary and noted as such in the reservation and yet no one commented on our special occasion. To make matters worst the manager visited all tables with the exception of our’s. This is the second tear we celebrated our anniversary at 456 Fish. I think we will choose differently next time.
Food was just bland. Not sure who was cooking that night. Also lost appetite after seeing huge bug run across the floor. Just not a good night and this is one of our favorite places.
Service, food and atmosphere was fabulous!
456 Fish is my favorite restaurant in the Hampton Roads area and has yet to disappoint me each and every time I have dined there.
The food had great flavor as usual. The shrimp on the fried shrimp appetizer were much smaller than normal. $13 was a little expensive for 3 small shrimp.
I took my husband to dinner at 456 for his birthday. It was a Tuesday evening and blessedly quiet. We could hear each other talk. A big plus. Our waitress was excellent. Always attentive. I am not a sea food fan but he is and enjoyed the oyster appetizer and the lamb shank and shrimp dish. My chicken was fairly dry with sticky risotto. The goat cheese salad was excellent. Overall a good diner. I would recommend and go back, but not for the chicken.
No! Our dinner was cold and extremely over-cooked. We think it had been kept under a warmer while we ate our appetizer. We had told our waiter to wait to put our dinner order in until we finished our drink and hordoevres . I don't think he bothered to tell the chef. There was almost no other guests in the restaurant the night we were there yet our service was only so-so. Even the calamari was over-breaded. I was not impressed and will not return!
My husband and I came for brunch with our visually impaired family member and dog. Our server, Amber, was very attentive and caring. At the sign of a few sprinkles of rain, they even allowed us (along with our dog) to step inside to pay our bill. Wonderful experience.
We arrived at the height of the pre-theater dinner service so the server were a little challenged to get our drinks and appetizers to our table as quickly as we had expected. However, he made every attempt to make sure we had everything we needed and even mixed my cocktail himself when the first that arrived was made incorrectly. (Thank you Zach!). Our meal was delicious, the atmosphere was lively and we were able to chat and enjoy our dinner conversation. Nice place to have dinner with friends!
