Nice atmosphere and personable service. Wide variety of wines. Scallops and chocolate cake was delicious!
It was restaurant week, and the waitress kept taking us off that menu. They were out of one of the two entrees, early in the evening. One of the desserts on that menu was not good.
Tammy was a great waitress, very social and fun. Took special care of us for our wedding anniversary.
Went during restaurant week. The duck was overcooked and the sides were just blah.
everything on the menu is delicious. the wait staff was courteous and prompt. great feel
Everything was perfect as usual
I visited 7 months ago and gave it 5 stars. Service was superb. This visit was a 180 degree difference. Service was on par to what I would expect from Ruby Tuesdays. Staff seemed overwhelmed and unsure of themselves. There was no pride in service. It was super sad.
$45 market price steak frites. Def not prime, right tough.
This was our first time dining at Rue de Jean and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere is lovely, quiet and intimate. Out service was perfectly attentive and friendly. We were pleasantly surprised at the generous food portions that was absolutely delicious! We found another gem to add to our date night rotation.
The house wine was great and the food was very tasty!!
Great experience, service was top notch and food was excellent!
Our dinner is a mixed review. The mussels were excellent. The scallops were the best part of our meal - really excellent! The salad was mundane and mostly greens not beets or goat cheese. The location next to the Music Hall very convenient. We sat out on the heated patio but inside was very appealing. We would return.
The food tasted burnt and lacking flavor.
Always a great place to dine!
Rue De Jean has a really pleasant atmosphere and JJ was such a personable server. Our food was outstanding and authentic, and you can count on us dining here again!
My friends and I throughly enjoyed our experience at Rue de Jean.
Our server was well versed in the menu and she made excellent recommendations. We enjoyed a wide range of appetizers, entrees and drinks. We are looking forward to coming back!
The hostess Sophia led us to the perfect table, and our server JJ was exceptional. Great food. Great atmosphere.
Always enjoy coming to 39 Rue de Jean. The food and service is always impeccable and always consistent. Dined at the bar last night with a girlfriend and the bartenders were absolutely the best. So friendly and engaging with the customers.
Had a craving for crème brûlée- and this place did not disappoint! We also had some cocktails that were fantastic. Ambiance was perfect for date night. We want to come back and try some of the entrees they offer!
Birthday dinner, Edward was our server and he was incredible. The food was wonderful and it was a great atmosphere- will be back!
Everything was excellent and the server was very efficient and knowledgeable. His name is Edward and when we go back we will ask for him to work with us.
This restaurant continues to be a special place to enjoy a meal well above what even a very good cook could prepare at home. Even outdoors, the place is charming and the food delectable. Mussels in a variety of broths are a must-have, every time, although the French bread wasn't quite to their historic high standard. The bowl was plenty for two to share!
Croque Madame was an appropriately indulgent and delicious sandwich, and the fries may have been the best I've ever had. I didn't even intend to get them; they just came with the Croque Madame! Gold medal.
The up-market french toast (I forget the actual title) thrilled my companion and was perfectly prepared and served.
For two people with no alcohol our bill came out to $63 plus tip, but we did have some leftovers. A most satisfying upgrade from standard brunch fare!
Loved everything about this place! Loved the French bistro ambiance, our waiter, and the food was delicious. The chicken francaise was the best we ever had! Highly recommend this restaurant and palm to go there again when we are back in Charleston.
Authentic French bistro! Escargot and Seared duck were both excellent! Great service! Highly recommend.
Tasty food and service.
We were in Charleston for my wife's birthday and found 39 Rue. The environment reminded us of our visits to Paris. Great atmosphere and food for New Years Eve
Wonderful food & service
We would definitely return
Fantastic food snd service. Misha was our amazing wait person!!!
New Year’s Eve with the kids!! Menu had a good selection to accommodate everyone’s tastes. Atmosphere is beautiful with a charming elegance- it was perfect for the occasion.
We had a nice little nook outside with festive holiday lights and tea candles. The music was nice. Then something happened and a flood light switched on, spoiling the ambiance. Also a difficult customer asked them to turn off the nice music, so we were forced to listen to the clashing musical remnants of neighboring businesses.
Somehow they could not find the champagne glasses for our New Year’s Eve bubbly. The wine was very good regardless. The bread was warm, which is always great. Green beans were delicious. Mashed potatoes were dry and under seasoned. Shrimp dish also lacked flavor.
The service was friendly. However, we were there over 1.5 hours for an early evening one course meal. They seemed under staffed. I wish this restaurant well, as I remember many nice meals here.
I hate giving bad ratings but everything’s from service to food quality was underwhelming. I ended up eating just the beets out of my salad. Will not be going back. Way better options downtown this here.
Service is very friendly and environment is super energetic. However the mussels were served strong smell but they changed without charging me. Overall quite good place to go.
Vacation with 2 kids. A 10 & 17 year old. They even had a hamburger for my 10year old.
Everything we had for dinner was fantastic! Pork chop was delicious, as was the steak tartar!
It's so sad to see a once great place fall so low. Being from Charleston, I have always loved Rue and always recommended it to friends. I can't do that anymore. The once delicious vegetable cream mussels are fishy and the sauce is flavorless. Nowhere close to what it once was. The rabbit and sushi are no longer available. I understand sourcing problems for the rabbit and can cut them some slack for dropping sushi if it wasn't a profitable item, but the things you were known for should be done well or not at all. Coincidentally, I ate there twice in the past week and can say that this is not an isolated or anomalous situation. So sad, because my family and I have always loved the place.
Service, food, and management was excellent
Everything was amazing starting with the cocktails, the bread (oh that bread), the escargot, Caesar salad, foie gras and chicken franchise - the meal just kept getting better and better. Don’t miss this place, it’s fantastic!
Might have been Sunday night and day after Christmas
We were disappointed
In a restaurant that we love
The place has slipped over the years...mussels were rubbery and unappealing...Chicken was overcooked...cooked days earlier and reheated...black skin...good flavor...you have to stay on top of your game in Charleston...too many good places...
