Our waiter was so on top of things, charming, and a true gourmand!!
We visit from VA and those this jewel of a restaurant. Easy to park across the street too. Suggest it highly!
Always a favorite dining spot when I’m in Charleston!
Excellent meal, with exceptional service and social distancing protocol!!!
We were the only people sitting outside at 4:00 pm. Wonderful food as always. Server was excellent. Great evening out.
We were celebrating our 48th wedding anniversary and I happened to mention this to the lady who showed us to our table. Almost immediately two glasses of champagne appeared and we were not charged for them. Food was excellent and we will definitely return and recommend to our friends.
Food was delicious , had the steak frites and a chicken that literally melts off the bone. Couldn’t stop eating the bread !!
Mussels are always delicious and burgers are cooked to perfection.
Always LOVE the Rue but had never been to brunch. It did not disappoint. The warm baguette with butter that is brought out first is amazing - crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Among the three of us, we ordered the Croque Madame, the country omelet, and the burger with gruyere - all delicious! Generous portions too! I'm eating my leftovers for lunch now. There is LOTS of ham on the croque madame. Our server was friendly and attentive without being bothersome. It was an enjoyable experience - we'll return for sure!
Great wait staff. Mussels and entrees were delicious. Highly recommend!
Rue de Jean is a Charleston staple- in an ever changing restaurant scene- it is consistently a great experience.
We loved Rue de Jean. The food was amazing and very affordable. The ambiance was very cozy.
Our dinner date the other night at Rue de Jean was outstanding. It always is. Our meals were excellent and our service was exempt! Our server Bryce was excellent, both in personality and in attention to detail. Had a fabulous, relaxing, delightful evening dining al fresco at one of our favorite spots in Charleston.
Great food and cool atmosphere outside, very COVID safe.
Very disappointed in our wedding anniversary dinner. My steak was burnt and my second steak that came out was very rare when I asked for medium. We never received our second order of drinks yet they were on the final bill and finally the server brought us a glass of champagne to celebrate our anniversary yet both glasses were on our final bill too.
Feels like a restaurant on its way out. Way too many better options both upper and lower...screwed up our order twice. Steak and frites was seriously lacking inspiration. Trout wasn’t very fresh. Server lacked any meaningful knowledge of wine list and was slow to right our order. We were literally the only patrons there that evening...
Not our first visit to 39 Rue de Jean. Food is always excellent, service is iffy. But, this visit, our server was excellent. Coq au vin was wonderful as was the steak.
The waiter did not ask about coffee (at brunch). There was a wine list but no drinks list on the table and I had to ask -- either there isn't one or he didn't plan to bring it.
My family's meals were fine except for the french fries, which seemed floppy. I had the proscuitto and eggs. The eggs were poached very well but the frisee with it was SO oversalted as to be almost inedible. I did not speak to the waiter about it because my elderly mother gets upset when someone does that, but it was as if someone had salted it twice. The waiter did not bring the bread that came with that meal and I had to ask for it. It was an okay meal but the level of service, in a restaurant half-empty due to Covid, was not acceptable. We will not return.
Perfect for a date night,, great food and drinks with friendly service!
This is always one of my favorite places to eat when in Charleston. The mussels are incredible. The Brasserie burger is one of the best I’ve had in my life. Last time we ate there three times because it’s so delicious. My family and I highly recommend 39 Rue de Jean.
Server was great, the food was very good and the atmosphere was nice.
It's more of a bar type motif, but the food was very well done French cuisine, it was very good.
Good place for out of the way dining. Server was too busy for great service. Definitely would go again!!
Excellent service. Great food. Staff was friendly and professional
Highly recommend it
Best meal in Charleston!
My husband and I both started with the truffle potato soup. We both love a good soup and this did not disappoint. It was creamy and very flavorful. For our entrees we had the pork chop special. You could practically cut it with a fork. It was so tender. Our friends got the Chicken Francaise and the Short Ribs. Everyone enjoyed every bite. For dessert my husband had the poached pear. It wasn’t his favorite. Our friends got the crime brûlée and said it was very good. Excellent food and service. We would go there again for sure.
Food was excellent! Best truffle fries and hamburger ever! Also their truffle potato soup was excellent as well!
So yummy! Must have the fried goat cheese salad, the pommes frites were delish, great service. Can’t wait to go back!
We wait 25-30 for the server to come to the table for the first time. When they finally arrived we mentioned the wait, but they did not appear to care. We ended up leaving and going else we’re for a fantastic dinner.
Ordered Filet Mignon topped with lump crab meat and black truffle sauce. The 3oz of crab was ice cold and placed on your grilled steak. Who serves ice cold lump crab on a Filet? $38.99? Never again!! Two people in our party ordered this and ruined a hot steak with cold crab meat. Asparagus served with the Filet was cold as well. Another person in our party ordered a crab dish and her crab was also served ice cold. This is the first time I have ever sent a bad review for a restaurant and the last time I visit this restaurant.
39 Rue de Jean has taken their Covid precautions seriously, and we very much appreciate it!
The Service and food were excellent (as always). Dining on Hutson Alley (an expansion of their outdoor porch) was delightful.
The service was excellent. The waitress knew the menu and what was good to recommend.
Our cocktails were made to our liking and they were so good I had a second one. The Escargots were so great, love all the garlic and my wife's French Onion soup was the best she had had in a long time. I had Trout Almondine and she had a Turkey Melt, very tasty. We finished the meal with a Creme brulee and it was as good as we remembered. Great place to go to eat in or in the alley.
I really enjoyed the French onion soup and the coq a vin. Nice little bistro.
The food was extraordinarily tasty and the service was extraordinarily attentive. The portions are generous. We share the Kale Caesar, pistou mussels and really enjoyed the Coq au Vin. It did not disappoint. They picked a great Pinot Noir for our meal. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and they did a really nice job celebrating with us.
What a wonderful place to be fed!!!
This was our anniversary dinner and we were very pleased. The food was excellent. It combines favorite French dishes with a slight touch of southern cuisine. The service was amazing. If I could make a suggested improvement, I think it would be better to have a different music selection. Maybe light jazz to reflect the theme of the food with French and southern US blend. Overall, tres manifique!
Amazing as always. I usually dislike outdoor dining but the view from theirs is charming. I've never been disappointed by anything I've ordered here, still my favorite place in Charleston.
Service was excellent and the escargots was to die for, but the full charcuterie doesn't deserve to be on the menu. We were severely disappointed not only in the selection of the platter, but also the quality of the ingredients.
Perfect dinner. Great service. Our waitress was very informative especially about the bottle of wine we got The filet was cooked perfectly. We will definitely be back.
