Lovely dining experience in downtown Charleston. Our entrees were delicious as was dessert. The Chicken Framboise was tender and flavorful, and the chilled pea soul is a recommended starter. We enjoyed dining outside and look forward to do so again very soon!

We got mussels and escargot for appetizers. The sauces were bland . We got coque a vin. Was not at all like we had in France. Heavy dark gravy and too much lardon. Drinks were average.

We went there for my birthday and had the reservation for almost a month. They put two small bistro tables together for us. There was hardly anyone there. I asked to sit in a normal table with regular chairs. They put us on the other side at a normal table in the middle of everyone instead of a booth. Waiter was very nice, but very busy. Charcuterie ($24) was practically inedible - crostini included actually was inedible. House bread was yummy. My husband’s filet was great, my daughter’s potato soup was excellent, and my chicken francaise was fantastic. Daughter’s shrimp Provençal was not great - shrimp very fishy. They gave her some buttered noodles instead. Crème Brûlée was large and perfect. Here’s where I get “pouty” - no happy birthday, no special dessert, etc.

I was disappointed in the entire experience. 2 glasses of wine, one appetizer, 2 entrees, one dessert and 2 coffees = $150??? Not my ideal meal.

Came to eat there after concert. I made reservation ahead of time. Greeter was pleasant and was seated promptly. Our server was helpful with menu and wine list. Ambiance was great and food was delicious. I will visit there again.

Nice place for a dinner with friends. Arrived after a concert; our reserved table was ready and waiting for us. Good service from a friendly, efficient waiter and excellent, creative preparation of salad, entree and dessert. Bar menu also good. Appreciated the hospitality of fresh bread and butter served with our wine cocktails before dinner.

This was our first visit to 39 Rue de Jean amd we were not disappointed!! The food was absolutely amazing and the short ribs was one of the best meals I have ever had in a restaurant!! All compliments to the chef!

We had our anniversary dinner here 9/14/23. We enjoyed the three course meal they offered. Wow!! It was amazing! The atmosphere was just what we hoped for…quaint, soft lighting, Charleston architecture, an energetic vibe yet relaxing. The service was top notch. I highly recommend it! (Be sure to make a dinner reservation as this is a popular choice)

My husband had the lamb Tbone, he said it was delicious, but the sauce was a bit sweet, I had the chicken, very tender and the Brussels sprouts were awesome, it came with gnocchi,which is not my favorite to begin with, and I believe they were store bought, so the waitress asked if I would like mashed potatoes, of course I said yes because I love mashed potatoes, they were instant and very salty. We came to Charleston to eat our way thru the town. It was good, I would definitely give them another try.

Everything was perfect. I marked moderate for noise because I took my parents and they are older so the volume for them was loud. They shared that they love the vibe, but since older hearing was a bit of an issue.

Communication was poor. Served entree before appetizer. Couple next to me didn’t receive their order as requested. Same for the couple sitting next to them. Bartender was more interested in socializing than serving his guests. My entree ended up being the one that was brought to me earlier. When I received the bill, I was charged with two entrees. Absolutely no attention to detail.

Honestly I think we just came on a bad night. The dishes came out wrong (like with the wrong food, sides) The chef came out and took care of everything but we all ate at different times because of this. He explained that it was restaurant week and there was a wedding party and things were crazy in the kitchen. For 100+ per person, I did expect better.
