The coq au vin was delicious
Great menu and excellent service
Great as always
Mussels were fabulous as usual, but remainder was very disappointing. We had the charcuterie and a cheese board - average at best, some items were just not fresh at all.
We tried a variety of appetizers and entrees. Everything was incredible.
Food was good, bread exceptional, wine reasonably priced but the atmosphere was very disappointing. Service slow but possibly due to COVID however mostly due to lack of attention. Based on the open table photos I expected more ambiance. Basically it was like a pub with decent food. Probably would not go back.
Always fabulous! Great food, great service, great place for dinner r drinks and an app.
We thought the food was very plain and felt more Americanized . Ambiance looks like a regular cantine. Service was good.
The food was delicious as always. Coq au vin was rich and inviting. My husband had the filet mignon and it was delicious. Our server made cursory visits with a brusqueness that left us feeling we weren’t worth her time. Perhaps she was overwhelmed.
We live in area, come here a lot. Very consistently good food and good service.
Such a great experience here! Nothing bad to say!
We come here often. The food and service are always excellent!
My husband and I ate here several times during our stay. The food is awesome and service is awesome! Nothing bad to say!!! If only the food were calorie free!!!
Great service. Amazing food. I would definitely go back.
Waitress did not want to be bothered with answering questions. I felt very rushed to finish so they could clean up. No offer of desert etc. overall no effort to make New Year’s Eve dinner anything special and seemed more intent on closing up. I understand the Covid protocol rules but it was ok for bar patrons to keep drinking but I was forced to down my drink at the buzzer. I won’t be back. Also stop pretending to be a French restaurant when your specialty is French fries.
........................................................waiter was not good!
From service to food, a great experience.
Wonderful experience on New Years Eve. Food was outstanding and loved the champagne toast.
New Year’s Eve was awesome. Great service, wonderful food!
Went for my Birthday which is New Year’s Eve, server was very nice but food was a little slow to come out. Seemed like kitchen was backed up due to holiday. Would recommend to others, food and drinks were all great.
This restaurant is fabulous. The mussels are a must!
Always enjoy this place.
choice of entrees seemed limited on this visit, but still offered a selection.
They do steaks very well here and it's a good break from the seafood that is so prevalent in Charleston. Our server was exceptional as is usually the case.
Our dinner was fantastic! No complaints. Everything from the bread to the mussels to the escargot was delicious. My only complaint was that service was a little slow. And we felt very safe given that the tables were spaced out.
The restaurant was obviously overbooked because the service was abominable. And the main course was inedible. Could definitely benefit by having a manager roaming to check on details with customers.
Our favorite restaurant in Charleston! We go every time we visit.
Best escargot I’ve had in years. Creamy garlic butter is worth dipping every bit in bread!
Always a favorite of ours! The mussels can't be beat.
This is one of our favorite restaurants for the food, ambiance and wonderful service. Unfortunately, our most recent visit was lacking. We sat for an extremely long time before being greeted at our table then were not attended to as we dined. Hopefully it was just an off night.
Always a wonderful time at Rue de Jean. Love the service, food and atmosphere! Can't go wrong.
Great service in a warm atmosphere. Food was very good at a fair price.
Strict covid distancing made the venture out pleasant. Server was very hospitable and efficient.
Braised short ribs excellent, but foie gras mediocre and the tartare was very gristly.
The food is a little oversalted, but I'm sure you can ask the chefs to take it easy with the shaker.
The bordeaux we had was an excellent value! So a pleasant bistro experience for Charleston.
Was disappointed the limited menu, elimination of daily specials, and the way portions have been reduced dramatically. Reservation was made in advance , requested a window table- was not honored . Our server was great .
Dinning area had nats flying around. The tables and seating could use updating. The bar was gorgeous. Our food was awesome but we did not receive the filet we ordered. However, it was so good we did not return the food.
We are at Rue de Jean for our anniversary. We dined outside and were quickly accommodated to be under a heater. The service, food and drinks were excellent. The short ribs and the pork chop were delicious and perfectly prepared. We will definitely visit again soon.
Pleasant dining experience. We look forward to a return visit.
French onion soup! Amazing!
Nice French restaurant in Charleston. We had peppercorn New York steak and short ribs. Quality food great service and a fair price. We'll be back.
I booked a table of 4 and I had an extra guest come in with me and the staff was nice enough to sit us even though we had 1 extra person. My FAVORITE party was the salmon. This salmon was so Delicious and so tender. Great atmosphere!
Best meal we had in Charleston! All of the food was wonderful - will come back!
We loved our evening at 39 rue de Jean. In these strange covid days, we thought the management had socially distanced everyone very well. The food was delicious and the entrees were enormous! Our server was great and overall we had a fab time. Next time we are downtown we will definitely have 39 rue de Jean on our list of restaurants to revisit.
Hi, Thank you so much for taking time to share you wonderful experience with us! We appreciate the kind words, and hope to see you again in the near future! All the best, Shannon Doherty General Manager
I ordered the vegetarian dish of Mushroom Confit and it was just terrible. All black/brown with the only taste of salt to distinguish between the thin mushroom and parboiled potatoes. I am very disappointed and would prefer that their "cook" was familiar with preparing all dishes being offered on the menu. Service was slow, drinks left empty and 15 minute periods of no service. There were only 3-4 tables seated. I thought restaurants were anguishing for our business?
