Perhaps it's because it's the start of the summer season, but we stood in the doorway while the staff ignored us, including the manager. If you're going to accept reservations, there should be someone at the front to greet customers. Went back to the bar and bartender informed us to sit anywhere, which the waiter told us is incorrect.
The next thing is they had run out of bottled water...living in an area where tap water is poisoned with GenX and Fluoride, unless the restaurant has a reverse osmosis system installed, we don't drink anything with tap water.
Overall though, the waiter was very nice but not a pro. Food was ok. Glad we tried it.
The experience was horrible. I need a debriefing. We had reservations thru open table. The restaurant was divided in to two sections. The restaurant is in front and the bar in back. Despite having reservations and despite there being unoccupied tables in the dining area, we were placed in the bar—a very “divey” bar. As soon as we were seated a server gave us some stained up menus and when I asked about the advertised “she crab soup” on open table he scowled and said “I don’t know what the menu on the internet says”. One side of the menu hosts bar food and the next page hosts the entrees. The entrees are priced in the mid 20.00 range. The gentleman behind the bar began bursting beer bottles, and then came explosive laughter from the folks sitting around him. I could not bring myself to order from these menus and eat in this atmosphere, and the servers were unwilling to move us to the dining room, so we kindly told the server, we were leaving and that we were in the wrong place. We went down the street to a very nice restaurant that was happy to have us and not near as condescending.
Stayed on the island over the weekend and didn't want to venture far for good food. What we got was great food. Fresh tuna and wahoo, plus great scallop appetizer. Great server too. Downside was ambience. This place used to be Foster's, but it seems like it is STILL Foster's. The dual purpose thing (nightclub at night) is not working. The tile floor was super sticky and gross when we got there. It smelled like a bar and cleaning supplies. There is nothing to look at inside this place. If you don't care about ambience, then you'll love it.
Visited on a Sunday evening, no crowd. The server was very personable and helpful with the menu, attentive throughout the meal. We had two of the fresh fish on the menu and both were excellent. We couldn't have asked for a better presentation. I highly recommend the tilefish if it is available, it was amazing that evening.
Outstanding. Shrimp and grits was outstanding
An unassuming storefront with a simple interior. My guess is people come here for the food.
We were there on a Friday before the season starts. The bar was hopping with some kind of group, but the restaurant was quiet.
Everything we tasted was made with attention to detail. Excellent pairings of seafood with jasmine rice and grilled veggies. Desserts were homemade and it showed. Peanut butter pie was outstanding. Will definitely be back when in the area.
We were drawn there for the alligator to try something new but was not on the daily menu. Pickled okra was a first and a hit- 7 year old loved them. Kids split chicken sandwich plate. They liked them. Hubbie and I split burger. Basic good ole burger.
A bit rustic and a long wait for meal, but oh, what a wonderful experience the food was! Delicious entrees. Shrimp & Grits, salmon, popcorn shrimp all the very freshest and tastiest food! Food worth the waiting.
The food was good but the restaurant needs some updating. The floors and furniture are looking old and very outdated.
Excellent meal! Fresh fish with excellent preparation . The alligator app was awesome!
The food was delicious and the service was fantastic. It was a little pricey, but overall very good!
The food was average. The menu is extremely limited. Pricey for the options available. Everything was Ala carte! The place didn't feel clean and felt dated. I guess it was ok for the beach scene but I didn't find any redeeming qualities about the food, service or ambiance. Not worth the money unless you want to eat alligator bites (just the thought grossed me out)! They 'claim' to have been voted in the top 21 restaurants in NC. DOUBTFUL! Seems like a scam claim.
Great service. Great food. Underrated restaurant at the beach.
Food was excellent, service did a nice job, and the atmosphere was very nice for a special occasion. We will be back again soon.
Good food. Great value. We all had the crab legs special.
The apps were great and the meal started off swimmingly. That is where it ended. The main course was bearable but way over priced. Most of had Scallops that were delicious. The rice and potatoes offered with it were not. One member of our party was told that what she ordered wasn’t available. She was told this as our main course came out. She waited 30 minutes to get her wrap after that. The place has potential, but for a Saturday night with few patrons, they could have given more effort.
Very good scallops , cooked to perfection . The flank steak was also done nicely. Save room for Dessert.
We went to 22 North for New Year's Eve. just moved to Wilmington, so based our selection on reviews and were not disappointed. Wonderful dinner. We will return.
22 North used to have a very nice upscale menu. It’s now like a bar menu with burgers , fries food wings, and that type of thing. I had a special that was delicious but will not be returning . The restaurant feels dirty, like a “beach bar “ which is what it is now I guess. There is now atmosphere. The restaurant was also freezing, and waitress told us that the heat was broken. Was in the 30’s thT night. Last time there was no air. It’s a shame because I used to love that place.
The food and service was very good. The ambience was nice, but the noise level increased when the bar became more fully occupied.
The website doesn’t didn’t reflect the true atmosphere of the restaurant. It looked like a very nice establishment from the website when really all it was, was a glorified bar. The restaurant was empty, literally we were the only ones in the dining room. There were a few guys at the bar watching sports, the waitress Lyndsay did all she could to make us feel comfortable, but it was awkward. We had reservations through Open Table which was never applied to my completed dining. The food was ok. My fish was hot but the rice and steam veggies were cold my wife’s scallops were hot but the seasoned veggies were also cold (and they shouldn’t have been). We ate, we paid, we left- sorry wouldn’t go back.
Middle of the week, very quiet and hardly anyone there. Too bad for them but good for us.
Great food! We both had the snapper but with grits instead of rice... The fish was good, but the grits were amazing! Great key lime pie too.
Great Food and drinks. Enjoyed the heck out of it!!!
Food was excellent. Our appetizers and main courses were something to rave about. Dessert was a brownie with ice cream and wasn’t much to rave about. Our waiter was polite and service was pretty good.
We were there during dinner hours off season so quiet, great food, very creatve. Also, they have a great hours dance scene and comfort food menu for late night fun which we unfortunately couldn't try.
Parking is tight so be ware but once your there the choices are excellent. We were a little disappointing the alligator was fried which we try to avoid but other choices on the menu were varied and tasty
Great place. Being local we tend to eat at places on the beach or downtown in the off season . This place was delicious and we will definitely be back !
The locals know about this little gem in Wrightsville Beach. No atmosphere but well executed dishes. Feels like the chef is cooking just for you alone - and maybe he or she is as it can be quiet depending on the night
We went for my husbands birthday...we loved the stuffed oysters they were delicious, the crawfish corn bisque was delicious, my hubby ordered the shrimp and grits and they were delicious. I ordered the bacon wrapped scallops but was disappointed they were pretty burnt. The staff were very friendly. The restaurant was nice but a little musty smell.
This place has good food and decent cocktails. The restaurant , however is very dated in its decor but after a conversation with the manager we were informed that renovations would be taking place as the restaurant is also a late night spot for music and dancing for the locals. We would definitely go back as we are curious to see what improvements will be made. Wait Staff were both friendly and professional. Worth a second try...
The staff was friendly and aimed to please. They were the best thing about the meal. By the stale beer/cleaning solution smell wafting throughout and the sticky booth, i'm guessing this is actually more of a bar than restaurant. Bleck. The food was poorly concepted and even more poorly executed. Someone in the kitchen has a serious thing for cooked green peppers, a lttle restraint would go a long way. I'm not trying to be unkind, but the bill was $80 for mostly inedible food. When on vacation, you want every meal to count, it's just not fair to walk away so dissappointed.
The food and service were absolutely incredible!! One of the best restaurants in Wrightsville Beach!! We loved this restaurant and will definitely return on our next visit to WB.
We had the shrimp & grits with BBQ sauce & collards. The shrimp was perfectly cooked, the grits were creamy & the collards such a tasty & interesting touch to this dish. The cornbread prepared with jalapeños was light & fluffy and some of the best we' ve ever tasted!
22North was excellent as usual. We make or to wrightsville beach several times a year an 22 North is always a go to for dinner. The diverse menu is listed on a black board and the the choices are Lways fantastic. Highly recommended.
We wanted to love this place. Walked away feeling so-so. Menu had tons of potential. Chowder was excellent and hot. Other food was presented beautifully, good flavor but cold. Gator was good. Collards seemed to be a theme that was overused. In fairness, it appeared that there was a lack of staff. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. He definitely had his hands full. Think he was only one there. Not a place for kids. Mac and cheese was a disaster. Sent it back. Hot dog was good. Chicken tenders not cooked fully. With so many other options, we are unlikely to give this one a second try.
Thank you for the scrumptious shrimp n grits and thank you for the friendly, attentive service.
The restaurant was not that great for the prices. It was extremely hard to hear our table's conversation because of the very loud patrons seated at other tables throughout the place. It looked & felt dirty, more like a bar than a nice restaurant that had fine dining prices.
The waitstaff was friendly.
Food was marginal for the price.
I will not go back for diner because there are copious amounts of restaurants in the area that offer good food, cleanliness, & atmosphere.
We were promptly seated and a server came for our drink orders within minutes. The fresh menu is presented on a large table side chalkboard. Food is fresh and changes regular. We had wedge salads with smoked blue cheese--delicious. The entrees we enjoyed were grouper and lobster ettoufe. Both were amazing. The only downside is the atmosphere needs a little sprucing up. We were seated in the bar room. Next time we will definitely ask to Be in the dining room, and there definitely will be a next time!
just ok. wedge salad was not good (didn't think you could mess up a wedge) - main course meal was reasonable but not worth the price paid - don't think we'll go back - i'm not sure how this place got rated so highly on here and tripadvisor
Excellent food and service! We will be back! The only that would have made this better would be to add a bread basket.
