A bit on the expensive side but it was a perfect meal for the 2 of us.
Lovely meal, pretty decor, good wine and wonderful service from Rachel. We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience here and Rachel was kind enough to order us a taxi and timed it to perfection so it was ready and waiting when we left. The mussels and French onion soup were on point! This has been our favorite restaurant so far on the island.
The food was fantastic! The manager, Tim, suggested a perfect bottle of wine to pair with my filet. And my server, Lily could not have been more delightful and attentive.
The dining room is lovely, the wait staff very attentive and the food well prepared.
Great location, staff, drinks and of course, food! We have been there the past 5 years in a row and they have yet to disappoint. They also have the best piano player on the island that plays fun, upbeat music. Make reservations for dinner as it seems to fill up quick. This year we ordered the filet mignon and lobster risotto (special not on the menu) for entrees; both were very tasty and came out in a timely manner. For dessert we had the peanut butter pie and flourless chocolate torte; both were amazing and I wish I had them both in front of me right now. Our server Josh delivered great service per usual.
Nice outside table. 1852 has an excellent menu and we enjoyed our choices of trout and whitefish. The trout portion was amazing and the chopped salad that was split was quite generous as well. Our server Lily was excellent ... very attentive and helpful. This is one of the best restaurants on the island by far.
Great food and atmosphere but didn’t do anything to celebrate this special occasion.
We've come here several times over the last few years. I was not impressed this go around. Our waiter wasn't very knowledgeable regarding the wine list. The menu had changed since pre- covid which I get but no more bread basket like before had to pay $10 for the bread board... which was just o.k. definitely not worth $10.
We dined here for breakfast and supper. Lee was our waiter for breakfast. Outstanding young man! We had a small breakfast consisting of a bagel and bacon, both of which were good. The coffee was wonderful.
Supper was lovely; very good food! Pricey, but worth it!
Perhaps we've been spoiled while working and travelling all over the world, but our high expectations for the top fine dining restaurants on Mackinac Island were not met. Our first of 3 dinners was at 1852. The setting and the service were top notch, and the menu certainly offered promise, but my wife and I were underwhelmed by the execution. My roasted beet salad starter disappointed relative to many others I've had, and my wife is certain that the risotto supporting her lobster truffle dish was prepared well in advance and had turned to mush. She was happy with her shrimp cocktail starter, and I with my Chilean Sea Bass main, but neither rose to "wow" level. The cheesecake for dessert had the texture of previously frozen.
1852 is alway a great meal. The Lemon drop martini was amazing. We had the Rib eye and it was very good. The view looking at at the water is very nice. The service is always very good. The dessert are fantastic.
By far the best food that we have had on the island. 100% going back again.
Quality of food was sub par
Service was mediocre.
We ordered the Tomahawk steak for 2. We ordered it medium and it came out to us closer to medium rare. Flavor was great. Wait staff was very informative and the piano player playing in the back ground was very good and relaxing. Me and my wife had our wedding reception here and would definitely recommend this as a must stop if on the island.
We loved the breakfast!
Great food and great views! I would highly recommend the 1852 Grill!
The food was great. The piano player was fantastic. The view was beautiful. The service was very good : Friendly and professional. Lovely room. We will definitely come back and bring friends.
One of the best meals I have ever had.
We were looking forward to eating here, but when we got there, nobody greeted us while we were waiting for the hostess to seat us. There was a man behind the desk who was just standing there and didn't even bother to make eye contact. When we did get seated, the table was set for 3 people, pushed against a wall. Our reservation was clearly for 4 people. There was another table with more space next to us that needed to be cleared, and I asked if we can wait for that table. The hostess said that she'll need to ask and come back to us. Then, the man who was behind the desk comes over and said that all of the tables have been plotted out for the evening and there's nothing he can do. I decided to let it go and sit in our original table that was in a small, awkward corner. However, while we were there, we saw a couple getting seated at a large table that was originally seated for 6 and then another couple getting seated at the table that I had asked for. Btw, both couples appeared white and my family and I are people of color (just stating a fact). The only good thing about our experience was our server. The food was decent, but we have had better.
The pecan crusted rainbow trout is amazing! Best fish I’ve ever eaten! The place is beautiful and service is great!
The restaurant was beautiful with amazing views of the lake. The hostess was less than welcoming but the servers Josh and Charlie were very pleasant and made our anniversary celebration very enjoyable. The shrimp bisque lacked shrimp and the French onion soup was bland. However, the dinner was exquisite from presentation to taste. The surf and turf with side of asparagus was prepared perfectly medium rare and the chef accommodated my request and prepared a vegetarian fettuccine that was splendid and I ordered a side of whipped potatoes they were almost too pretty to eat but so creamy and light. The desserts were worth the extra calories seasonal blueberry cheesecake with delicious graham cracker crust and homemade apple pie with side of cinnamon ice cream. Also, the pianist played softly entertaining the guests with beautiful music.
It was early in the season but the experience wasn't great. Our waitress was good but seemed overwhelmed. The experience was rushed and the food came out super fast which made us feel like we were being hurried along. The check was brought without even asking if we wanted dessert. Hopefully a better experience later in the season.
It was disappointing. We were looking at the couple opposite of us, rather than each other. The ambiance really missed the mark. The food was a bit bland. Definitely not worth the price tag.
Great place for a date night. Or couples trip. Food was good
Wait staff was very friendly and accommodating. It was our wedding reception and we received two bottles of sparkling wine which we very much appreciate it. Our overall experience was excellent
Sister and bartender were marvelous! We adore employees who will banter with us and give great recommendations. Outstanding staff!
The meal was also absolutely superb. We shall return!
We had a wonderful meal with the most amazing service! The fish was so fresh and perfectly done. The night couldn’t have been any more special. The piano player was so talented, we had fun recognizing the songs!
Great food. Great service. Fabulous piano player. Overall wonderful evening!
From planked whitefish to crab/spinach soup and profiteroles for dessert we loved every bite. Breakfast is elegant as well love love love
It was wonderful! They made my birthday so special!
Dined here for our anniversary. Lovely ambience and prompt and friendly service stand out.
I absolutely loved dining at the 1852. Not a single complaint!
Wonderful meal in a lovely elegant setting. Pianist played throughout our meal on a Saturday evening in May making for great ambience. The roasted beet salad was incredible and big enough to share. I had pecan encrusted trout which was delicious. Enjoyed our after dinner drinks on the porch overlooking the harbor. Highly recommend!
The pianist was a great touch to our dining experience. The best food on the Island! Whitefish and Duck entrees we’re phenomenal! Oh and the bread board was mmm good. Hats off to the chef and the whole 1852 grill room staff!
Great place for a nice and tasty dinner. We make sure to visit everytime we're on the island.
Meals were mixed up, drinks and water slow to refill.
Server was very inattentive and not at table.
One of the best meals I have had in a long time. I had the halibut and the wife had the steak Diane. Both were from the nightly specials so not on regular menu. They were both outstanding. A bit pricey but worth it.
Pleasant staff, enjoyable meal. I did ask that they finish cooking my filet so that it was a warm pink in the middle, after that it was fantastic. The bernaise sauce was awful that accompanied the steak. The potatoes were a little bland and the asparagus was like warm. Again, the steak was very good once cooked to the medium rare that I had requested and I did enjoy the clam chowder. My wife said the prime rib was excellent and also thought her asparagus was on the cold side. She enjoyed her French onion soup which was “thick” with onions. My old fashioned took a fair amount of time to be made but was very smooth. Apple pie at the end was accompanied by cinnamon ice cream and we both enjoyed it. We had also told them we were visiting for our honeymoon and they comped the dessert which was very sweet (pun intended).
