My wife and I had a fantastic meal at the 1852 Grill Room. The food was great and staff friendly and enjoyable to talk to. We ate on the porch and the view of the grounds and harbor is outstanding. We would definitely return.
It was lovely but overpriced.
Beautiful setting, food and service was great. We loved our dinner. We had a window table - what a view!
Tried 1852 Grille Room again as they offered outside dining. Was a very nice night and food and service were good. My wife enjoyed the trout and I had the whitefish which was also good. Their bread was changed ... missing some of our favorites but probably due to season end. But a good dinner. Nice option on the island.
Best walleye I have ever had!
We enjoyed the greeting when we arrived. Our server was very good and kept us laughing. The food was Amazing as we had the steak for two! Wonderful service, great atmosphere and the pianist was great as well! We enjoyed our evening at the restaurant and will come back the next time we visit the island!
Everything we expected and more. Food was outstanding as was the serbice. We will be back.
The food was wonderful. I had the filet Oscar and my husband had the prime rib. Both were coked perfectly and were delicious. We would definitely go back!
We had a delicious meal, the cocktails were excellent & dessert scrumptious!
Not so much the restaurants fault, it was our 5th wedding anniversary and I asked for a window table to see the beautiful view of the bay. They sat us at a good table but not by the window. There were two window tables available (both were tables for 2) Another couple came in after us and they sat them right at the window seat. I thought it was first come first served, apparently not! After the couple was seated the gentleman decided to lower the blinds and obstructed our view of the bay completely. Again not the restaurants fault but I would have gladly switched tables and sat by the window and left the blinds alone so the entire restaurant could enjoy the view. Why were we first to arrive and not given one of the two choice tables by the window? I won’t be back for just that reason.
Awesome food; some of, if not The best we’ve ever had ! Great service ! Wonderful setting !
Excellent choice for a special event, albeit, a bit pricy.
The food and service were excellent.
If you are fortunate enough, try and get a table with a view of the harbor.
Jewel was an amazing server and the place is outstanding!
Great meal on the patio celebrating our anniversary. Will absolutely be back !!
If you plan to celebrate a special occasion, the 1852 Grill Room is an excellent option on Mackinac Island. We were delighted with the service (hope you are lucky enough to get Jeffrey as your waiter)--just the right amount of care, concern and humor. A shout out to all the staff there -- it's not easy working with a mask on, but everyone was very professional and made us feel very welcome. The menu offered several options for fish -- and our table ordered 3 of those (whitefish, trout and walleye). Each was delicious, with unique plating and sides. The entree portions were a little large and the wine list seemed a bit limited (these were only minor). The salads were easy to share. Lovely, enchanting piano music was live in the background. For the icing on the celebration, a hot fudge sundae, with 1 candle and the pianist playing Happy Birthday, was delivered to my 85-year-old mother! A memorable evening--one we will always cherish.
The atmosphere was very nice with the piano player. Our server was very good. The duck and the whitefish were very good. The risotta did not have much flavor and was not as creamy as it should have been.
Love the 1852 Grill Room! Service is excellent. Food is delicious.
Fantastic table outdoor
Our 3rd time to Mackinac Island-first time dining at the 1852. Wonderful experience from our attentive server to our delicious food and that amazing view! Barbecue shrimp appetizer was mouth watering. Steak medallions and lump crab were a wonderful pairing. The French onion soup and signature white fish did not disappoint. One of the most beautiful views of the island while dining. Have added the 1852 grill to our list of favorites ❤️
My favorite MI restaurant
Our first overnight stay on the island and after researching restaurants this promised to be a great place. The food was excellent, the staff friendly and qualified. The view is what makes the ambiance which is great at certain tables. The Tiffany lights are beautiful but the restaurant needs something more. We had both the great table and the view so our ambiance was good, but overall it’s not so impressive. Would highly recommend for the food and staff! Which isn’t it the food that we come for?
We celebrated our 11th anniversary at 1852 Grill Room and I couldn't have asked for a better night. The staff was in on a surprise my husband planned to have roses waiting on the table. Live piano music was playing softly throughout. The meal was perfect - enough to be full but not too much. Perfect steak. Whitefish was delicious. For dessert we split the pumpkin cheesecake - well worth the calories! Beautiful experience for a magical night
What a great experience. I asked the hostess for a seat by the window since it was our anniversary. She was able to accommodate us. It was the best seat in the house.
The food and service (Kayla) were amazing. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Beautiful dining room with nice atmosphere. Best meal we had on the island. Mushroom risotto was the best we ever had. Loved the piano player.
Lovely dining room and my husband and I had great expectations. Be careful if you have food sensitivities/allergies. I explicitly told the waiter the foods I could not eat. He said he talked to the chef and red flagged what I was allergic to. Before I took a bite of my fish, he confirmed he talked to the chef and everything was "good to go". First bite and I knew he was wrong. Flagged waiter down; he asked chef. Came back and said yes, fish did have allergens in food and he was sorry. Brought me another piece of fish (nervous this time around). The fish was so thin, and dry and tough - was basically inedible and I sent it back. Spoke to the hostess and she said she "took my dinner off the bill." I told her basically I had had nothing to eat and had to sit by my husband while he ate and said it seemed fitting that they would also take his dinner off the bill which they did. But it was a horrible evening experience and a bad start to my vacation on the island. Very disappointed that this $$$ restaurant doesn't take good allergies seriously. They were lucky I know my allergies and only took one bite. Otherwise they would have had to deal with a much bigger problem.
We had a lovely experience! Everything we ordered was delicious, the service was quick and the bartender was a hoot. I highly recommend eating here while you're on the island!
It's a nice restaurant with good food, but nothing that makes you want to come back again and again. That said, I have yet to find a restaurant like that on Mackinac Island. Could be we were away from the big windows with a great view...could be what we had was mediocre...there were uncooked squares of what looked like store bought American cheese within my undercooked au gratin potatoes.
Dover sole had no presentation, just a warning to be careful of the bones.
I mean, nice enough, but not worth the money or effort, really.
We had the best seats next to a window. There was a pianist playing soft dinner music in the background. The staff was friendly and efficient. Seemed every little detail was well attended to! The presentation of the food was so beautiful and everything was cooked perfectly. Tender but not soggy asparagus and flakey delicious whitefish. Colourful carrots and delicious desserts! The waitress was very helpful with making sure my food allergies were observed. What a wonderful evening!
Great location, great service highly suggest having reservations. The bib wedge salad is large enough to share, loved the fresh crispy bacon & garden cherry tomatoes. The steak tartare, the best we’ve ever ate and the pecan crusted rainbow trout, a large portion of soft flaky fish, so crispy on the outside was amazing. For dessert, we shared the strawberry shortcake, would not recommend. The lemon biscuit is very good, it was dry, the dessert some sort of drizzle or liquid.
The Grill Room was elegant and had a beautiful view of the harbor. The piano player was a nice touch and the general atmosphere was quiet and intimate. It was a lovely place to celebrate a honeymoon.
Wow. What a phenomenal dining experience. This is by far the best food we’ve had in Michigan in the several years we’ve lived here. The Burrata was insanely good. The service was excellent. Their handling of COVID precautions was so reassuring, by far the best I have seen. We can’t wait to come back.
We enjoyed the butternut squash soup and baked French onion soup to start. Both fantastic!! The butter shaped as a rose was beautiful. I had the shrimp scampi and my husband had the walleye and both were superb. Great food and great experience.
Great views, friendly staff, the specials were delicious as was the rest of the meal.
This is the 4th time I’ve been, 2/3 times I’ve been ignored by the server. Not going to give them a 5th chance.
My husband had the Prime Rib which was delicious and he would definitely order it again. The Mushroom Risotto that I ordered was good, but next time I’d make another choice. Our server, Jeffrey, was very friendly and did a great job.
Great food and service. Could eat there every day.
My wife and I were dining at 1852 to celebrate her 30th Birthday this past Saturday. The live piano music and view of the bay was wonderful. The food was pretty good. The service was sub-par. Took quite some time for our server to finally make it to our table, once he did, he was far less than attentative. We tried to order a second round of drinks mid way through dinner, the server took the order, and never brought them to us. After inquiring about getting the order of drinks he said "oh yes" then the next thing he brought to the table was our bill.
Charlie from Indianapolis may have just been having an off evening.
We had breakfast, the food was mediocre, service, mediocre and the price was outrageous. Don’t waste your time or money.
Always great food- love going here for dinner when we are on the island. I forget how big the portions are- it’s hard to save room for dessert but always worth it! The views are also spectacular. Recommend reservations as it is a popular dinner spot.
