A wonderful evening, start to finish. The wood fired grill added unforgettable flavor to our snapper and salmon. The service was top notch. As was the presentation. Completely showered with delicious desserts when wait staff learned celebrating anniversary and birthday. Special place. We shall return next trip to Raleigh.
Bar staff was fantastic. Super personable. Best Martinis. Server was efficient but not very engaged. Not the best service I've had there.
My wife and I have dined at 18 Seaboard several times and never had a bad meal. Our experience this past week did not disappoint. We were seated promptly for our 6:30 reservations on a Wednesday evening. The dining room was not packed and the noise level was very low. I had the pork shank and my wife had the blackened swordfish. The flavor combination of the greens and grits really worked for my dish. My wife hates green peas and was all set to give me the peas off her plate until she sampled a couple. She said they were the best she has ever eaten and proceeded to keep them for herself. Our server was attentive and professional. We look forward to a return visit to 18 Seaboard in the near future.
As always the food was excellent and well presented. Also, the dishes were very interesting and unique. The chef is superb, and the wait staff is knowledgeable and professional.
We love 18 Seaboard.
Please Read Entire Review! Fifteen minutes after being seated we had not been approached by a server. I informed the hostess. I don't remember her name, but she was FANATASTIC. She apologize profusely and took our drink orders. She immediately assigned a server to our table. Came back to the table to inform us of who our server would be and explained the mix up with servers, resulting in our table being missed. The server, Tina, came over as soon as the hostess left. The server and hostess were excellent. The food was delicious! Hidden gem, if you haven't been. What amazed me is how quickly the hostess turned what could have been a bad situation and last time visit into a memorable meal and future visits.
Fried green tomato with crab appetizer tasted terrible. Carrots on entree dish were raw and burnt on outside in a way to salty sauce. My brother in law had rib eye steak that was tough and difficult to cut.
Service was good and ambience was nice but overall a poor experience due to food.
I’ve been to 18 seaboard before and loved it. This time was different, our server couldn’t discuss any of the dishes. When asked about the shrimp bbq he replied “well it’s just bbq shrimp”. No description of dish, complements, flavors, source of shrimp. I listened to other servers describing dishes I had considered and was sad I missed out because from THEIR descriptions I would have liked to tried something else. I also asked about switching out my side for the roasted asparagus and was told it was no problem. I was surprised to find I was charged 5.50 for 6 overdone asparagus spears. On the whole not an experience worth repeating when there are so many excellent restaurants in Raleigh
First, I selected 18 Seaboard because of previous great dining experiences. Our group of 4 went on a Friday night during restaurant week dining on the roof patio, with two of us getting the filet special menu and the other two ordering off the menu, BBQ shrimp and the catfish. The catfish and shrimp dinners were good. The filets were sadly lacking in flavor and came already sliced. Two sides with the filets, the grit cake was delicious, but the glazed carrots were barely sliced and so hard it was as if they were basically raw carrots that had been rolled around on the griddle for 10 seconds to slightly balcken. The carrots were also on the shrimp dish, so they took away from an otherwise good dish. The arugula salads were small and had as much spring mix as arugula and nothing else other than small grit croutons (good) and a dusting of grated parmesan cheese. Both desserts were excellent, the chocolate cake in a cup and the strawberry pound cake (the best). Our wait staff was good and made a good recommendation for wine, but the mandarin mojito was in the smallest serving glass I've seen for that type of drink. We dined on the roof seating area, but it has NO ambiance. They need some tikki lights, plants or something for a cool atmosphere. Industrial type bare light bulb lighting came on near dark and fans would be a plus going into the summer. In summary, while I have loved 18 Seaboard in the past, it will probably be quite a while before I go back with so many other options for this price range (over $100 for two people).
18 Seaboard is one of our favorite go-to spots. The food is always delicious and service is always top-notch. We were excited to see an updated menu with some old favorites and some new selections. We always feel welcomed and leave happy.
Great food, excellent service, wonderful ambience. This restaurant has a great local, neighborhood feel.
We have experienced Triangle Restaurant Week almost every time it comes and this is by leaps and bounds our favorite thus far! The service was outstanding the pace of the meal perfect and the food was over the top! As my wife stated "The food made me giddy!" We will definitely be back to 18 Seaboard!
We had a fun time. Chef Jason Smith stopped by several times to make sure all was well. Will be back again
We really enjoyed our first visit to 18 Seaboard. The service was excellent and the server was very attentive. We enjoyed talking with the chef and owner, Jason. My husband’s ribeye steak was cooked perfectly and my snapper was delicious. Be sure to save space for dessert- the hot mug of chocolate cake was delicious. They have a good wine list too.
First lunch here. Dinner was much better. Lunch had good menu and prices a lot better at lunch. Got a salmon salad salmon was undercooked and the salad was so-so. Service and atmosphere nice, not enough parking.
We were celebrating our friend’s achievement of obtaining a masters degree later in life. Had a great time. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food, service and ambience.
My group was running a bit behind and they were able to hold our table for us. The service team was very helpful in recommending appetizers, entrees, as well as local craft beers. Food was on point and no concerns arose during our time there.
We ordered off the restaurant week menu. That there was no dessert was a disappointment. The fact that there were only 2 choices for the 1st course, one of which was a salad, and then the second course had almost the same salad in it with protein on top, as well, did not measure up to 18 Seaboard’s usual creative standards.
We were in Raleigh for the weekend for the IM Raleigh 70.3 event and spent our last night in town celebrating our anniversary. I poured through lots of menus searching for the perfect spot to celebrate. We are a little tricky since neither of us eat fur or feathers (i.e. no meat), but enjoy seafood. In a state known for BBQ and Southern cooking it was a little difficult to find somewhere we could enjoy and partake in fully.
18-Seaboard ended up being perfect. They sat us at a very private table and were quick to take get cocktails going. No need to worry whether the bartender knows what they are doing....they do! The only part of the meal I was slightly disappointed in (but still enjoyed) was our appetizer the Shrimp Beignet's. Not sure what I was expecting, but felt it resembled fried shrimp more than a beignet. As for the entrees, they were perfect. We had the Swordfish and Scallops - the menu states the scallops are cooked in duckfat and served with prosciutto , which if you remember I don't eat meat so the chef agreed to prepare accordingly - they were hands down the best scallops I've ever had. That's coming from a Florida girl! The meal was capped off with coffee and a slice of the Banana Pie. The pie is a must try!
There are so many times you eat a meal and think to yourself -it was ok; it served the purpose. This meal - you will leave wondering when you can come back!
So very much our evening dinner for our anniversary. One of my sisters recommended us to go here. Her boss curt is good friends with the manager. Curt takes his office here to say thank you for their hard work 😀 so glad we found out the restaurant. Will be coming back.
I love this place!!
Excellent meals. I had snapper and my friend had the cobia. They were perfectly prepared and the surprise birthday dessert was very special. The sorghum berries were a bit salty, but otherwise no complaints..
Although I'm a very traditional guy, I love the subdued, casual elegant, urban chic character of the restaurant. I've always found the food to be excellent to outstanding. 18 Seaboard is truly fine dining at a fair price, in other words, an outstanding value! There is no nicer or more talented restauranteur in the Triangle Area than Jason Smith. My most recent visit was a birthday celebration for my cousin's wife. Both were blown away! My cousin's wife said the salmon was the best she had ever had. Ever special request was executed to the nth degree!!
Service was fantastic and the food was outstanding!
My wife picked 18 Seaboard for her birthday. We brought our 11 year old with us and he commented it was fancy due to nice water glasses and getting ‘3’ hush puppies plated rather than a basket. Dinner was great and enough to bring home and enjoy a second dinner. Jordan took great care of us Service is fantastic. Kids menu is available, but my foodie son had no problem eating off the menu. Great for a special night!
Great ambiance, perfect date night atmosphere. I love that they locally source most of their menu. I had the filet mignon which was perfectly cooked the way I like it. Their wood fired grill options offer different complement sauces for you to choose from, which I thought was really unique! I would definitely go here again and recommend it to friends as well!
Expensive, food was just ok. They had barbecue sauce on the brisket and also the shrimp, it tasted like ketchup.
My dad and I went to 18 Seaboard to celebrate finishing my first year of graduate school. Our server was super knowledgeable about the menu and gave us great recommendations. Our dinner was the best dinner I've had in a long time. And the banana pudding pie was to die for.
My wife and I went to 18 Seaboard for our wedding anniversary we had two of our children and our Aunt and Uncle with us. I'm not sure what was going on with this place but it was overall horrible. Three of us ordered exactly the same drink, they all came out at separate times and were different. The fourth person ordered a beer That apparently they were brewing themselves it took so long. Waitress was friendly but pretty incompetent. She said I'll be right back with bread, and 20 minutes later, she brings back five small squares of bread for a table of six. My entrée came out before my appetizer. The steak was so tough it was not edible. I asked to speak to the managerWho basically agreed that their service was terrible there food was terrible and the wait was too long and he comped the entire meal. This was a ruined anniversary dinner. Thanks 18 Seaboard for a crappy evening.
Excellent meal and great ambiance.
Walkway and interior of restaurant was dirty. Portions were small for the price!
Attempting to be fine dining but failing down to upscale casual. Food quality is there although they gave me an annoyingly small portion size of fish. Service was not there. Venue is great. Dessert was marginal.
As usual, 18 Seaboard provided outstanding food. The service was pretty good, our server was trying to keep up with several tables at once - but overall, he did a good job. The only "down side" to the evening was that they seated us at a table that had cheap banquet chairs - and not the nicer dining chairs that were at all the other tables. Additionally, this table was in the main traffic area which detracted from the overall ambiance. This all would have been understandable had the restaurant been full, but it wasn't...
I made a reservation a week before my friends birthday.Knowing that she wanted to sit at the table in front of the window I asked for it.I also called the day of our reservations to ask again. When we arrived the table had been given to another party.Needless to say she was disappointed. The menu was a bit more limited than I previously remember.Overall I was not impressed for the price.I probably will choose somewhere else for our next special occasion.
This restaurant never fails to deliver. The best service and, hands down, the best chef around. We’ve never had a disappointing visit here.
Thank you once again for a great dining experience.
We had been to 18 Seaboard once before and had a wonderful experience. So much so that we treated our friends to dinner there to celebrate their upcoming nuptials. Even though our date fell on Mother’s Day..we thought that by going in the evening we would be okay. Not the case! It was crowded. Understaffed, very hot in the restaurant, and not a peaceful dining environment at all. We waited almost an hour for our mediocre food..followed by total embarrassment when our guest’s “complimentary dessert” had to be sent back because it was a stale old muffin at best. Another dessert was sent to the table..however; after the long wait and stale dessert..the damage was already done. Probably will not go back again.
They overbooked for Mothers Day. Extremely long wait time for meal and even dessert.
As always, the food, service and overall value of a night out at 18 Seaboard was fantastic.
I love that the chef sends out little treats to try pre/post meal. The food is always excellent!
