121 Restaurant and Bar - Oxford
Patrons can often view small jets taking off and landing as the large open space faces Oxford airport’s runway and taxi-ways. The restaurant’s modern ”airport themed” décor contrasted against its “American favorites” cuisine, will have the most reserved diner soaring to new heights.
I've eaten at Restaurant 121 three times now and while their food is good. The service has been consistently poor. We gave it the benefit of a doubt the first 2 times, but since the very slow and inconsistent service has not changed we probably won't bother to go again.
We have chosen 121 as our restaurant of choice for new year's eve for the past three years. Good people, nice ambience, excellent food and good value.
New Year's Eve is a tough time. There are many different things going on from pre-party parties to actual parties to people in a hurry to get to some engagement. It can produce a lot of pressure on the wait staff. 121 handles this sort of stuff like they were born to it. Friendly, cordial people greeting you and immediate seating. This is always a good sign and a good start. Our friends arrived shortly and we were offered before-dinner drinks. In addition to the regular fare, they had nicely crafted "specialty" drinks for the occasion. One of our party is very particular about his drink, so much so that he brings a small card with specific mixology instructions for its construction. He was very happy with the results. I chose a single malt and their selection was a nice "spread" of available scotch whiskies.
We ordered from their New Year's optional menu and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their choices; chicken, pork osso buco, halibut, and a nice medium rare steak. Service was supportive and unobtrusive; just what you want. Whenever we did want/need something, the staff seemed to already have sensed it and was ready to meet the need.
If you do go to 121, particularly on a "dark and stormy night", you will find yourself driving into what looks like the airport scene from Casablanca. Foggy, low or nonexistent lighting on the road, scarcity of signage and the distinct feeling that Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman are just out of sight, perhaps even waiting at the restaurant! Don't give up. Keep going and you'll be amply rewarded with good service and good food! Go and have fun. You might even find yourself whistling "As Time Goes By"!
Service needs improvement. Too slow, rude, impatient.
We’ve been here many times for excellent meals. Saturday night’s was a disappointment. The risotto was tasteless, the potatoes in the excellent sea bass dish were not cooked through. Also, we were served our appetizers right away, but had to wait an hour for our main meals. The waitress was excellent, but she could not control the kitchen. We definitely will be back for another try based on past experience. If this were our first time at the restaurant, we would not return.
Food was good. Service could be improved and also faster. All in all a good experience
121 never disappoints! I wish I could try everything on the menu, it all sounds so good.
The short rib dinner was absolutely delicious. Our waitress, Best service we have ever had. We will definitely be back.
Always enjoy a meal at 121 Restaurant. Especially like the lobster roll! Service is always top notch!
I have been at 121 several time before. I had the lobster roll today and was disappointed. With the Brioche roll there was too much bread for the amount of lobster filling. The filling was somewhat dry also. It is a 45 minute drive for me to get here and I will be re evaluating whether it is worth the time commitment to eat here again.
Highly disappointed with the new menu. Struggled to find just a nice item that was not a burger yet that was ordinary.
I had the short ribs w polenta for $28. The polenta had no flavor and was not smooth and had lumps. That’s not worth $28. For that price I expect high quality on a dish like that.
I loved that place and I hope they get this under control. Will try again in a couple months.
I’ve been to 121 on several occasions - lunch, dinner, special events. The menu never disappoints, the service is outstanding, and the prices are reasonable!!
All is very nice, but the portion of fish relative to the price was really not worth it...
Maybe I’m just a snob, but a friend recommended restaurant to me and said how great it was. I honestly couldn’t careless about view of planes taking off and sucking in fumes from jets. I was underwhelmed by food and cocktail selections. Our server was AMAZING!!! Hence the 4 stars. Definitely will not be returning.
We come here often, and always love it
Food was very mediocre. Burgers were dry, jambalaya was watery, steak was unevenly cooked. Service was lacking and took over an hour to get main courses. Great view of the airport, probably a fun bar scene, don't go for the food though. Long hike for very blah flavors.
12:30 arrived for 12:30 reservation.
1:05 placed order.
2:10 order was served. Over an hour wait for burgers, pizza, grilled cheese. Bread was brought to table as we were finishing. Not a good experience with 4 starving children.
Unique location and overall great atmosphere. Food is good too.
We went for our anniversary dinner. Our table was ready, the view was breathtaking, and the service was great. The portion in the steak was incredibly small, but the pasta was big enough for 2! Other than the small portion for what we paid, it was great!
I made a bad choice in short rib appetizer. There were a lot of chips, some cheese and about 1/4 cup of short rib. Unusual for 121. I didn’t like the white sangria either. I love 121 and next week will go back to my favorite, their burger.
Awesome service, food and wine! Worth the drive for us!
It was an early dinner so we understand not a lot of staff was there for the dinner shift. Mussels appetizer was good husband asked for bread for the broth. None was cooked yet. Rolls are frozen par cooked. Took a while to get some by then the broth was cold. Truffle Arancini also good. Salmon club also served on a par cooked frozen roll. Never seen a club served on a roll before let alone a par cooked frozen one. If I had known that I would have never ordered it. Fish tacos were good but cod was soft-most fish taco are crispy. Menu descriptions are too minimal you will assume a lot. Apple crepe was the best part of the meal. Please ditch the parcooked rolls.
Awesome time as always at 121. Great food good drinks great atmosphere
MY HUSBAND AND I WILL DEFINITELY GO BACK. THE FOOD WAS AMAZING.
Food was excellent. We had the spicy bbq wings for appetizer. Thier alcohol drinks were great you can actually taste the achohol lol
Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch with family couple who had never dined at 121. They plan on attending with there older autistic son who would love to see the planes, if they are flying. Know that they will plan a visit soon and will, again, find everything delicious and enjoyable.
We had a terrific dinner at the 121 Restaurant. We sat by the window as the sun was setting, so pretty. Everyone enjoyed their appetizers, truffle arancini, caesar salad and mussels. The bread and whipped butter brought to the table was also very good. Our entrees were amazing and cooked perfectly. Thank you 121!
Wait staff was excellent but the kitchen is very slow which effects the service.
Everything at 121 was excellent. We received great service and we enjoyed the food.
The rib eye special was fine, but the braised short ribs were phenomenal!
Went there for a small birthday celebration. We ordered calamari for the table, small portion but it was good. We had burgers, the rolled chicken dish and the cod and everyone enjoyed their meal. For desert we had ice cream (large portion), apple crepe and a chocolate dessert. All were good but the crepe was a little burnt in places which lent an unpleasant taste to some of the dish. Service was good and fun seeing the planes take off.
We went here for father's day. I had been once before. If you reserve in advance, it is worth it just to watch the planes take off. I asked for a window seat on openttable and got it! My kids loved the planes. The menu is very good and offeres lots of options and the place is clean. Service was friendly but very very slow, especially for the initial drink order. My cocktail (godfather) was very good although I wish they used real cherries. The appetizer was small and not priced accordingly. We had calamari and it was unseasoned. My husband had a burger that was overcooked despite his order. My kids macaroni was dry and bland. My lobster roll was ok but lacked butter. I dont' think there was any on it at all. The potatoe soup was ok but bland. Fruit bowl was all melon. So basically it is a cool place to go but the food is very lacking. I heard other tables complaining too about the food being bland. I went about 7 months ago and had a burger that was cooked better but service was also slow.
Love 121, however, I finally had something disappointing...the calimari. Didn't like the coating and despite us going at noon, they tasted like they were fried in "yesterday's" oil. Everything else was great, as usual.
As a server there are certain things that just must be done
...clear empty glasses when you drop new drinks....such an annoying thing to me. Throughout the night our server and buser walked by our table and ignored empty drinks and dirty utensils I kept stacking at the end of the table. Other staff walked by looking ip and not at tables to see if all was clear. If i had any part of training or managing...tjis wouldn't have happened....shame because its a great spot. Not so sure we will go back.
Great food, drink, and atmosphere!!! Seeing the planes land as you dine is such a fun experience!! Highly recommend the Half Mile burger, the lobster roll, and the fun cocktails!! A gem in Oxford!!!
Amazing location, great atmosphere, excellent food, friendly waitress.
I have been to 121 many times and has never let me down as far as the food or the service. This was my first time reserving a table through open table; I had put a note in the note section "prefer a table on the deck" and the hostess noted that they do not take reservations on the deck. We were able to get a table on the deck as a couple was leaving but the deck is very busy on a nice day/night as people like myself like to watch the planes take off and land. As a side note, the plane activity generally isn't heavy nor loud.
We had flown in from SCH, IFR, cruising today @7000msl with the 85 PA28 B/G Dakota
A bit bumpy though, Happy to arrive at OXC restaurant and enjoyed a great lunch.
Would highly recommend this destination to other pilots for there $200 dollar hamburgers,
Great views of the cost and Long Island from the air.
Love this hometown restaurant!
Always enjoy eating at 121! The fresh meat lobster roll with melted butter, served with seasoned fries and cole slaw, is delicious! An added bonus would be the possibility of planes taking off and landing! A great place for either lunch or dinner.
