  • "Amazing!!!! Have actually tried my hand at Zuni's own chicken/bread salad. I'm know for my cooking, but this was truly amazing!!!!"

  • "It was Palm Sunday so we walked over for lunch. Table was ready, food was, as always, delicious and service excellent. Always a great restaurant."

  • "I seem to have a consistent problem. I ordered the tuna to be done all the way through. Never has the fish been done all the way over the 20 years of asking for it to be done at Zuni. I learned in the past not to send it back because it will be over cooked. It was luke warm and raw. It's seems undine on purpose because I asked for it to be done. The waitress was way too talkative and making jokes. When she asked about how the fish was done it was already way into the meal. I told her what I thought? I said it's raw, I'll just deal with it. She had nothing to say in return. She was very nice but it was like she was auditioning for a role in a movie which was distracting to our meeting.. I wish we can fix this consistent issue."

  • "Compared to many previous meals at Zuni, this one was generally disappointing -- though the shoesting potatoes & expresso granita remain superlative."

  • "Zuni is my favorite for a long evening of fabulous food and intimate conversation with dear friends about things that matters to us. It has a magical intimacy, uniquely its own."

  • "Food served warm, not hot. Ruined delightful serving of fish & beautiful veggies."

  • "First time back at Zuni in many years. The place is hopping. We had a wonderful table facing the open kitchen, and marveled at the dexterity and activity of the workers there on a busy Wednesday night. The small plates were outstanding. We went for the famous chicken, which my wife and I thought was very good, but probably a dish we could have swapped out for some of the other entrees on the menu that night, which sounded more interesting -- the chicken was simply OK, cooked in a novel way. I will always have this restaurant on my list for return visits to San Francisco.."

  • "Perfect for place for a great tasting, quick, light dinner before an evening show. Deep fried fiddle heads were perfect and the balance of flavors on the plate of home cured anchovies (perfect parmesan, outstanding olives, sweet celery, and a lemon olive oil) was excellent. The wait staff was attentive but let us talk, and helped us get our meal and out in plenty of time for the ballet."

  • "After arriving on time for our 6:30 reservations, we sat at the table for 30 minutes without a server. Bread & water was dropped off, but nothing else. We flagged down a server nearby and asked about getting a drink order. She had a very negative attitude and reluctantly took our drink order. Our server finally arrived and apologized about the long wait. Drinks finally arrived 45 minutes after being seated. It then took another 30 minutes to get our salads. Overall a disappointing experience from a place we have dined at many times. Management needs to train the staff on the fine art of being polite and courteous. Attitudes should be checked at the door."

  • "I've been eating at Zuni for over 30 years and never had a bad meal. However, my only comment re: food is that this was the very first time I'd ever ordered the Gateau Victoire before, and for a dessert which has a lot of chocolate, and a bit of espresso, it was pretty much without flavor. Hadn't expected that. The mouthfeel was very silky though. It was warm enough for me to sit outside today, and I enjoyed it."

  • "The food here is excellent along with the ambience. Our waiter was helpful and did a nice job. What is unfathomable is waiting one hour for the chicken with bread salad to be brought to the table. This was not the case last time which was 40 minutes. The chicken is somewhat pre-cooked so I fail to understand the wait. We are usually in and out of a restaurant in 1 1/2 ;hrs. Sitting there for 2 hours + was way too much on my poor back. No chicken next time."

  • "I came with two friends for lunch on a Sunday. We started with the clams, french fries and frisee salad to share, then ordered the multi-cheese pizza along with the famous chicken. All of the food was excellent, the pizza especially was quite good. The chicken took longer than expected, but was very tasty, and the bread in the center managed to be tasty and soft, with a great crispy crust. I loved the open feeling and sunlight in Zuni, and enjoyed the atmosphere. I'll be back."

  • "Zuni is still a reliable choice for a nice meal as the years go by. I have been dining there since 1998 and my wife has been dining there since 1987."

  • "On recommendation from our dining partners, my husband and I shared the roast chicken. Humble as it sounds, it was MAGNIFICENT. I know people go overboard on these reviews, but I've never had better chicken. And don't get me started on the fries - perfection! If you've never been before, ask for a view of the kitchen when you make your reservation - you may not get it, but it's worth the try."

  • "We got a last minute Friday night reservation. Arriving early, we ordered the roast chicken in advance and went to Hotel Biron for a glass of wine (btw very nice). Zuni seated us promptly at our reservation time. We had the chicken and split the Caesar salad, both Zuni staples and both excellent. The service was good. The wine list is diverse and covers a wide range of price points. Our total bill was very reasonable. Zuni is an SF classic that remains on top form."

  • "Had their "famous" chicken which was so much more than I expected. We couldn't finish it and the next day it was still tasty and delicious. Had the fries which were done perfectly: thin, crispy with a hint of salt.. and vino was great."

  • "The restaurant is gorgeous and offers a great view of the action in the kitchen. We got the famous chicken, which was good. Even better was getting to watch the chefs break the birds down with such precision! Salad was great, our appetizers of polenta and Brussels sprouts were just ok. My only complaint is that our server was off-putting and aloof. Maybe she was just having a bad day. I would go back and try some other things on the menu."

  • "One can never go wrong with Zuni's. The food is consistent, fresh produce and high quality fish and meats that are well prepared. The sea-bass was perfectly prepared, tender and juicy with artichokes in a tomato sauce on the side. Of course the Caesar Salad is the best in town."

  • "Great food and outstanding service. Upstairs seating is a little quirky; rickety furniture and the walls vibrated. We were told it was due to construction next door. . . I didn't know they did construction on Sunday evening at 7:30. Try the halibut appitizer and, of course, the chicken withe bread salad."

  • "I took my daughter and her gentleman friend there for Sunday brunch. I was visiting San Francisco for a short time, and wanted something very good. Having read internet research, I made a reservation at Zuni. The food was OK but pretentious, and the highly rated burger was boring. The Bloody Mary was flat, but the tab was huge. The only good thing I have to say is that the shoestring fries were fantastic."

  • "We went in for an early dinner Sunday. Zuni was solid as always. Great food, professional service. Tables are close together and we had some VERY loud people next to us, but all in all a good experience."

  • "Beautiful meal with their classic roasted chicken (that can feed 3, not 2, by the way), delicious fried flounder with onion rings and grapefruit/avacado salad. I especially appreciated the very tart kefir lime tart, super tangy and not too sweet. Zuni is always a winner!"

  • "i am a zuni regular but the salad with the chicken has been going down hill for years. The bread is not crispy and the greens are generally unappealing micro greens. Tosca and others now offer better chickens. Service was also very slow and disappointing."

  • "The menu is limited but food is delicious. This restaurant has a unique bohemian ambiance. The chicken roasted in the special pizza oven is succulent but you have to be willing to wait one hour for it. You may have good raw oysters while you are waiting."

  • "Not too many healthy options on the menu.I had a hard time finding something to order. When the burger is the healthiest item, which I had, something is really wrong Great atmosphere however"

  • "It was not the best of times at Zuni, love the place and go often. Had lunch, my companion had some great fettuccine and I had some "Monterey Bay Sardines" for $17.00. The problem was there was only one sardine, buried under some vegetables, In fact at first I couldn't find the sardine as it was broken up. It was a delicious dish, but not much of it for $17.00! I should has sent it back then. We also had a plate of oysters, some wine, dessert, all fine!"

  • "First time at Zuni, took some friends from out of town, was surprised by the salad and appetizers size do you want people to go away hungry! So glad we ordered the shoe fries and chicken it made up for the lack of food on the plates. I will go back would love to see a few more green leaves on the plate. Chicken was fantastic as was the gnocchi, wish I had more!"

  • "We went to Zuni for my friend's birthday. All the items we ordered were delish and our service was exceptional. We had the raw clams, eggs with goat cheese, yellowfin tuna and the roasted chicken. Every dish had unique flavors and fresh tasty ingredients. We loved it and will certainly be back with more friends. Reservations are a must and parking can be difficult. Valet is only available in the evenings."

  • "we had one of our celebration here sometime ago. I was quite impressed that time and felt the service was quite good and food interesting. that's the reason I came back for my birthday. somehow this time was quite disappointing. we were sit right under a powerful fan which blew away the paper menu. it felt quite crowed in my corner. the waitress probably had a bad day and very quiet."

  • "I have been a fan o f Zuni since it opened! This time, the house-cured anchovies were outstanding, but on dish was sub-par: the pizza, which was soggy and limp.e"

  • "Wife and I went for our anniversary - we try to go at least once a year. The roasted chicken with bread salad is always wonderful - and its quality is as consistent as its preparation. Great oysters, a pleasant little arugula salad, and the anchovy appetizer made a perfect meal for us. As is sometimes the case at Zuni, the service was a little spotty and (we were seated near the kitchen) it was on the loud side. But Zuni remains more than one of San Francisco's classics - it is also one of the better restaruants in town, and refereshingly unpretentious."

  • "Food was quite good. Small portions. Waiter almost too attentive. Felt rushed. Although tasty, our dishes weren't outstanding so probably not worth the cost. Rickety window was open and hit our friend in the shoulder 1/2 the time. I had guinea hen. I think we also had pork shoulder"
